Optimist Training is the best kept secret in the Carolinas!!! I would like to thank Billy Wilken…read moreand his wife Stephanie for planning and executing two fun filled weeks of a custom adventure summer camp for my son, his cousins and family friends- a custom group of kids from 12 to 15 years of age. The adventure camp included kayaking, fishing, swimming, hiking, disc golf and sports training. The kids were at Ebenezer Park on Lake Wylie, Andrew Jackson State Park, the Catawba River and the Fort Mill Dam to Riverwalk. The kids had so much fun that at the end of the day, they just wanted an afternoon snooze instead of looking at their phones. Billy is a great guy, while fishing, he taught the kids all kinds of fun facts like how to tell time by just looking at the sun's location. Most important, he's able to identify a child's natural sport's abilities and give the coaching and reinforcement to help the child thrive. A special thank you to Billy and Stephanie for their hard work and flexibility with us to make this a memorable experience, the kids loved it!!! We are now planning an adventure birthday party that will involve all three generations. I highly recommend Optimist Training for custom camp adventures , special events and more. Thank you!!! -Diana Leon

Well, here's my story…read more My friend's daughter loves horses and was talking about having a horse ride lesson one day. On July 3rd, on her birthday, we went online and found Leg Up Equestrian. I called them and left the voice message. I understand it was right before 4th of July so no problem. Then I went to their website, which is old, out of date and not user friendly but sooner or later I finally figured out how to fill out the form. On July 6th I received the email that they are on the holiday break. Well, not a problem, I understand the holidays. I called them after the holidays on July 10 and left the voice message again. On July 12 they send me the email if I still would like to schedule a trial lesson ($65). I responded with the dates I am interested in and they told me to fill out registration form. I also received separate email with a release form. To pay for the lessons was another adventure. You need to sign up, put all info again so I've decided to call them this morning to make sure I'll do everything correct. I called, left the voice message again. The gentleman called me back from the academy, I missed the call, called him back and here we are, finally having the conversation after 2 weeks of trying. He said that I need to fill out the form and make a payment, we had some misunderstanding with email addresses but figured that out. No problem. Then I asked him a question about the trial lesson itself. How long is it going to be? what exactly the kid going to do? and told him, that I had a bad experience with one of the horse places in Florida. (at that place, lesson was supposed to be 45 mins, and 35 mins the coach was explaining to my daughter how to take care of the horse, then 5 minutes the coach took a break and then 5 min horse ride) I explained this to that gentleman and asked to be just more specific. He said, 20 mins getting ready and 20 mins a lesson. I asked another question if it's a group lesson or not, he said, it might be a group lesson. I said, well, you didn't mention that and then he offered me a private lesson which is $75. I said, what is the difference between trial and private lesson. The respond was amazing - "I think, we are not a good fit for you, I have to go" And hanged on me. My concern that I spent so much time to get connected with them, finally got on the phone, asked simple questions, wasn't rude or blaming them on something! just asked to be more specific. Now, after 2 weeks of hoping to get a lesson as a B'day gift I need to explain her mom that Leg Up Equestrian never heard about customer service and live in 18th century.

My daughter is been attending this school for the last half of the year and we are extremely happy. This place hire real teachers, licensed, that have proper education and experience. The teacher that we have is extremely talented and devoted, we love her. She constantly brings new lessons, shares her curriculum and plans. My daughter has eczema and dietary restrictions so I bring my own food. My daughter had never been exposed to anything else they watch it closely and very carefully. The school is clean, fresh and modern, uses secure video cameras so you can always see what's going on with your kid. Kids go outside twice a day and spend a lot of time on the playground. Playground is really nice too, not just to show but a real playground where kids really have what to do. Couldn't be happier!

She told the principal, and he came out holding a giant knife, threatening to chop off the culprit's hand because, according to him, that is what the Bible says to do. I was terrified. My parents were so disturbed by the incident that they filed a police report, but it was dismissed because they said he was "just trying to teach us a lesson." Trust me, do not send your kids here. I have seen firsthand what happens when all the parents leave, and it is awful.

They were all healthy, bright eyed, active and well socialized. Their enclosures were spacious, very clean, well maintained, species appropriate and provided enrichment. All encounters were careful to put animal and human safety first. I've worked in vetmed/animal rescue for 30 years so seeing animals well cared for and accustomed to their handlers gave me confidence Darby Farms is a place I can support. Now to the tour itself: Do it. Book it right now. You get SO MUCH for such a reasonable pric. We got two hours of personal interactions, petting and feeding, with over 30 species! Our guide Ryan was incredibly informative and knowledgeable, even taught us hardcore animal nerds some new facts we didn't know. He was skilled at handling even the squirmiest of creatures gently. It's absolutely magical to be able to touch and connect with animals I've only seen from behind glass in zoos. Thank you to Darby Acres for providing this unforgettable experience

In addition, some free range friends walked along with us humans on the tour and literally wanted to eat out of our hands. Our guides, Maddie and Shane, were fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable about the animals, and excellent at making sure everyone in the fairly sizable tour group had an opportunity to see or feed each animal they introduced. We bought the "Kit and Kaboodle" package which was so incredibly worth it! Some zoos allow you a "personal encounter" with one species, or by holding up an animal and letting you pet it,... but in the encounter room, Maddie and Shane spent an hour or more introducing us to at least 10 animals, all different species, in very interactive ways. We held armadillos, hand wrestled a mongoose, let a tiny monkey jump from shoulder to shoulder between us eating Fruit Loops, fed and high-fived otters, and so much more. I truly can't say enough about how happy we are that we included Darby Safari in our first ever trip to Charlotte!
