I contacted the…read morecompany I used for many years at our old house which I was very happy with but, they didn't seem to understand the system. I did a little research of reviews for HVAC companies in Chesapeake and found Simmons had great ratings. I found quickly why they had 5-stars! My previous HVAC contractor had been out twice and I was left with, " you need a new thermostat" and left with a cold house. That's when I found Simmons. They were very responsive and were out within 8 hours. The technician was very polite, professional and explained everything about the system (since I was unfamiliar with a dual-fuel system). He identified the problem and made the necessary repairs quickly. Having had a great experience then, I put the system under contract with them. Since then they have not let me down. They have kept my system in excellent condition. This week I suddenly had an issue with heat. Called and had a technician here within 3 hours. He got the system working but the next day I had the same issue and on one of the coldest days the system was out again. I called after hours and within 15 minutes had a call back from the on-call tech who said he would be here in 20 minutes. He was. The problem was so minute, a loose connection, but trouble shooting that was a pain for him, but he found the problem within 15 minutes. Simmons is my only HVAC system contractor. I know the age of the existing system and understand it only has a few years left in it. I feel confident that Simmons will keep it running great and when the dreaded day comes, it will be Simmons technicians installing a new system.

Very Disappointed with Virginia Breeze HVAC…read more Unfortunately, my experience with Virginia Breeze HVAC was extremely disappointing. Virginia Breeze came to my home on July 31 to repair my A/C. I paid an additional $200 to have the water pan and condensation line cleared. Unfortunately, my A/C system went down again on August 12, less than two weeks later. I contacted my home warranty company, and they placed a new service order with Virginia Breeze because the original service was less than 30 days prior. I personally texted the Virginia Breeze representative and attempted to call, but received no response. I waited until the following Monday, when my home warranty company contacted Virginia Breeze while I was on the phone. I was told that I was already scheduled for service. However, I explained that no one from Virginia Breeze had contacted me to schedule an appointment. I was willing to give them until Tuesday, but by Wednesday I still had not received a call, text, or any communication from Virginia Breeze. As a result, I suffered in a home that was over 90 degrees for almost two weeks. At that point, I was given the option to have another contractor come out. The new contractor inspected my system and identified a refrigerant leak. The contractor also told me that the water pan was full of water and was not draining, despite the fact that I had paid an additional $200 to have the pan and condensation line cleared. The representative had used my personal shop vac to perform that work. I wish I could receive a refund for the additional service charge I paid, since the new contractor found that the pan was still full and not draining. What was most disappointing to me was the lack of communication and urgency. Having no A/C during one of the hottest months of the year is not a minor inconvenience, especially when I had to endure temperatures above 90 degrees inside my home for nearly two weeks. I expected much more concern and follow-through from a company that had just serviced my system. I understand that HVAC issues can happen, but communication, customer service, and standing behind your work matter, especially when the system fails again within such a short period of time. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend Virginia Breeze HVAC. I hope the company takes this feedback seriously and improves its communication, workmanship, and customer service for future customers.

I really appreciated his thoroughness, and also his diligence to keep the house as clean as possible. I say that last point because he had to go in and out of our house like a hundred times and each time he was careful to take his shoe coverings on and off. That kind of diligence means a lot because it shows he pays attention to detail. At the end of the day, our house was given the assurance that everything is good to go for the winter and that's all I needed. Even more important, he wasn't trying to add more fees or unnecessary repairs to the house. Well done!

Turns out…read morethey are insanely expensive compared to some other licensed HVAC companies. $89 just for the site visit, which the tech said could NOT BE APPLIED to their cost of work. Their quotes were ridiculous. $358 to clear 2 condensate lines. $287 to add a condensate drain joist strap. $358 to replace 6 feet of insulated flex duct. All very accessible. Another company came out the next day and INCLUDED in their $99 site visit they cleaned out both condensate lines. Their quote for the remaining work was less than half what Norfolk Air Htg Cooling quoted, and the technician was far more friendly and explained things very well (I'm an engineer in 4 fields). The only positive was that Norfolk Air Htg & Cooling was very responsive -- same-day for a non-emergency. (but the other company was also just as responsive)

The absolute height of professionalism, honesty, and integrity! Jorge and Brian have been…read moreperforming routine maintenance on my unit for the last few years, after I initially called Chesapeake Heating & Air Conditioning because my 1-year-old unit was blowing warm air, and I thought it had already died or had a major Freon leak. Brian walked in, took a look at the unit and said he knew EXACTLY what the problem was five seconds later. He saw the float valve was popped up on the drainage tube (which I didn't even realize was something I needed to be on the lookout for ). He cleaned out the drainage tube and the rest of the unit for good measure, and I appreciated both the quick assessment, resolution, and education he gave me on maintenance during that visit. I signed up for their twice-yearly maintenance package that day, and I've been a happy subscriber ever since. Jorge has come to do the maintenance the last couple of times, and he is thorough and equally as knowledgeable as Brian. When he had a concern about the air flow coming out of one of the vents, he was quick to volunteer to crawl under the house to take a look at the duct work, and I really appreciated his honest assessment of it. The insulation is starting to fall down and wear out, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I could save up a few more years before the ductwork would probably actually need full replacing, and he gave me a ballpark figure based on the square footage and number of vents in my house, so I can plan accordingly. Much appreciated!! A company that employs people with such knowledge and integrity is a company that will have my business for decades to come. Their twice-yearly maintenance for heating and air conditioning is easily one of the best (and surprisingly affordable!) investments I make each year. Worth every penny!
