DO NOT GO HERE. I have taken items to be repaired before and I found them to be slow and overpriced. I took a pair of tennis shoes to be stretched slightly for my daughter. The shoes have never been worn. After you pay for the work that took three weeks, the shoes were damaged. Not because of the length or width but the suede was damaged and the shoes were two-toned. They claimed this was normal. I have had shoes stretched before and the color of the shoes never changed. They never said they were applying chemicals that would change the color of the shoes. They said they will now try to make the color of the shoes the same. The refused a refund and the refused to pay for the damaged shoes. They can hardly speak English and pointed to a line on the ticket that said shoes may be damaged by stretching. This was in small print and not conspicuous as required by Virginia law. I bet they have never offered a refund or reimbursed anyone for damaged goods. As much as they charge, they can own up for their mistakes. read more

Their service is horrible; I brought my purse in to have a buckle either repaired or replaced and they suggested a certain buckle to replace the existing one. Which was fine. I brought my purse into their shop at the beginning of March of this year and they said it would be ready on March 28th and that they would call me when it was ready for me to pick up. I never heard anything from them. When I checked in a few weeks ago to inquire about my purse (it is now the end of June), they told me it would be a couple of more weeks before it would be ready. They almost could not even locate my purse when I stopped by to inquire, even though I had my ticket and had paid in advance (their requirement). Last week, they finally called to tell me my purse was ready and I stopped by today to pick it up, which is a normal day they are open. I drove about 40 minutes from Hanover County; their shop in the West End of Henrico, only to unexpectedly find their shop closed. After waiting for my purse for four months, this was especially frustrating for them to be unexpectedly closed when all I want is to pick up my purse that I already paid for. I had used them a long time ago when they were at a different location and I thought they were very good. I had a bad experience last year with their unusually long time to wait, beyond what they wrote on my ticket but I figured that was a fluke, so I let it go. But no more after this time. I will never go back there again and warn others not to either. read more

This place is great! Old school couple who are a refreshing reminder of what this country is all about. I have had nothing but fantastic experiences here, even though I bring some unique requests in. Mr. Moon somehow knows what I'm trying to request, writes my ticket up (yes, writing up tickets lacks in 21st century tech...guess what? Leather work is an age old trade and written tickets have no bearing on the product) , asks if the amount is ok (I'm looking at you "lil miss thing' who thinks she can negotiate bc "it's just one zipper"...if it were 2+ you'd be been charged more), gives me a completion date (usually beats it), and delivers exactly what I'm looking for. Exceptional service, all the way around. I wish this review was as delightful as my interactions with Mr. and Mrs. Moon...however, a couple of pretentious reviewers struck a nerve with me. A little advice: instead of letting 15mins of waiting or the price being more than what you think it should be, be appreciative of the opportunity to patronize two of the hardest working people in RVa. I had to wait a few minutes one time, so I asked Mr. Moon what his story was....those few minutes (extended out of desire) were worth a 5 star review alone...the craftsmanship and fair prices put the tally above what Yelp will allow. read more

I attempted to pick up my bag 5 times beginning on the due date, and each time I was told it wasn't ready. This business hasn't come into the 20th century, nevertheless the 21st. They are completely disorganized. They always have a big backlog. Wait times for repairs are a month or more. They are still using hand written tickets and frequently lose their part of the ticket. They always have a difficult time locating your items when you go to pick up your items. My husband waited 15 minutes for them to locate my items. They were unable to find one of my things. They lost my item in their tiny, cramped shop! I had to text a photo of my boot to my husband who was at the shop so he could show the owner what to look for. They also don't call, as promised, when your item is ready to be picked up. And their prices are high. Never going back. read more

This is my go-to place for quality luggage and shoe repairs. The first time I stopped in to get the handle on my Ralph Lauren suitcase fixed, I saw other people bringing in Manolos and Bruno Magli shoes, making me think this just might be a good shoe repair spot. I have a ridiculous number of shoes and always seem to have several pairs that need minor repairs or need the heels recapped. I brought several pairs here, and all were repaired on time and correctly (I've had some bad shoe-repair experiences in town). I was a bit nervous since the owners didn't seem to speak English extremely well, but they obviously understood everything I asked them to do since the repairs were just right. They are also very friendly. The prices aren't cheap, but they aren't expensive either. Plus, I'm someone who'd rather pay a bit more to have repairs done right the first time. I had two bags that needed to be repaired and after doing some searching and reading reviews online, I decided to try Atlantic Leather. I was extremely pleased with the results of their work. The first bag I brought in was a crossbody bag that was way too long on me. I originally asked for them to add another hole or two so that I could shorten the strap, but the woman who works there said that that might not be the best fix. However, she suggested cutting part of the strap out and reattaching it to the bag. She eyeballed the length that needed to be taken out and it was perfect! I was a little hesitant about cutting the strap since it was a brand new bag but the work looks great, you can not even tell that it was cut out. The second bag was a large totebag with both straps beginning to fray/fall apart. They covered the straps in leather to reinforce them and they look great! I honestly thought the bag was damaged beyond repair so I'm really pleased! She told me to call two weeks after dropping off the items to check on the progress. When I did, she said she need a bit more time and would call me in 4 - 5 days. She called me on the 5th day and the items were ready for pickup. When I came to pick them up, she found my items quickly. Just a note, they do ask that you pay upfront when dropping off the items. Overall, I was really pleased with the work that was done on both bags! The customer service was great and, while it did take about 2.5 weeks, the bags look perfect! I would highly recommend and am considering bringing in more items for repair soon! read more

Very friendly service and decent pricing!!! I bought a pair of shoes from DSW about 3 years ago. These shoes are super cute.... I'm a shoe fanatic! I only wore them one time to a party and, surprisingly, the buckle broke. Every shoe repair store I took them to wanted $20-25 for the repair. I only paid $60 for the shoes. And the buckle in hobby lobby and it was only $3 bucks. So, I was adamant not to spend more than $10-15 on a repair... and that was pushing it. I happened to be in the Short Pump area and noticed this place. Took it in and they only wanted $15 for the repair. BINGO! Right up my alley!! Buyer beware!!! . . . Spilled olive oil on new light tan suede boots. Took boots to Atlantic Leather and asked if they could get the oil out. Man at store said it was "hard to tell, we try". I paid $35 up front and had to sign a type of waiver. The waiver basically relieved the store of any liability. When I picked up the shoes, I immediately noticed that the oil spots had not been removed and the shoes were noticeably darker. It looks like they used some type of oil to darken around the olive oil spots to make them a more uniform color. My new tan suede boots look more like chocolate brown now. read more

When I went to pick it up 3 weeks later, they gave a host of excuses why they hadn't even begun to fix my tote. They are -not- about customer service. I came in to get the zipper on my school bag fixed and I asked how much it would cost to get the one zipper fixed. the lady responded it would be $25 which is fine. but naturally I asked very politely if anyway it can be a little lower since it's just the one zipper? She replied saying that "if I want a lower price then I should just go home and fix it myself or find somewhere else" in a really rude tone. and then I asked her if I pay now or if I pay later for the service and she pointed to the paper she gave me and said "can't you read that it says pay now" all i responded to that was "okay, I was just asking" what kind of customer service is that !! So rude and disrespectful for no reason at all, they ended up fixing my backpack zipper nicely but i'm giving them one star for their horrible customer service. Meticulous work. My son lost a lot of weight and his leather jacket was too big for him. We brought it in and the very sweet lady working there took all the measurements. One week later we went in for a second fitting. Made a couple other adjustments. One week later we picked it up. It is perfect. Flawless work. We also had s pair of cowboy boots re-soled. The zipper on my Samsonite hanging bag came apart and the closest authorized Samsonite repair facility is in Virginia Beach. So I called Atlantic Leather and the woman that answered was very nice and told me they could repair the zipper after I described what was wrong. I brought the luggage in, she confirmed that it could be fixed in about a week, which was great. Because I had been using the bag in it's current state, I had to use duct tape to keep the zipper closed, so there was a bunch of tape residue, which she politely said she would remove (without me asking and without her laughing at how ridiculous my bag looked). They do very good work but their customer service is terrible. Every time they have given me a date that my order will be completed & I can pick up, my order was not ready. I didn't think about writing a review here but after reading all the bad experiences I felt I should chime in. I use his business often. I think I had two women's pantsuits altered, at least 9-10 pairs of pumps re-soled (new and old), heels re-capped, 2-3 pairs of leather boots shined, and one pump stretched. I don't own expensive shoes, but I like my shoes a lot and Mr. Moon played a major part in keeping them this long. He doesn't turn his nose at my cheap shoes and pays attention to my 10 year old dog eaten, no-name pumps as if they are Jimmy Choos. He lets me choose the color of my Vibram soles and will tell me when something probably won't work. (As it was the case with the haircalf pump stretching) You can tell he loves working with leather and his arms and fingers show the amount of time he spent in the business. He speaks pretty good English, but make sure to give him the time and talk to him at length about what you want. I browse the store and wait 'til the crowds thin out (btw this store gets quite a foot traffic). You can find some interesting things displayed. (like teeny leather animal keychains, curious sets of hats, leather weekenders, etc.) His wife does the alteration and she always asks me what I want, but I end up going with her suggestion anyway. She probably is as old as my mom, but she is so sweet and so respectful to her customers. My experience with this business has been pretty positive for my needs. He can't work miracles. I wish those haircalf pumps worked out! But if you want shoes re-soled, shined, and heel caps replaced, I think he will be more than a reliable person to do the work for you. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!! I dropped off a leather coat to be treated. They told me it would be ready in 2 - 3 weeks. After waiting 4 weeks, they called and said the jacket was ready. I went to pick up the jacket, brought it home, and hung it in the closet not really looking at it. The next day, I get a phone call from this store telling me they gave me the wrong jacket and asked I bring it back. I brought it back only to find out my jacket still was not ready even though I had received the call. I am now trying to find my jacket as they have apparently shipped it to another company to have treated. I would not even recommend this company to my worst enemy!! read more

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS!! So I take my girls luxury handbag into this place to get a chain fixed and cleaned because this place and the owner came highly recommended. I have no idea why after my trip there. I drove a half hour to this place because of the reccomendation. I was charged $20 to get the chain fixed and $80 to get it cleaned which seemed odd to me but I figured this guy knew what he was doing. He told me to come get the bag the following Tuesday, I returned that day around 10 am and was told to return around 5; that in itself was extremely frustrating. So I make the 30 minute drive out there at 5 and he tells me to come back tomorrow. Still do not have the bag after an hour in the car. Long story short after he argues extremely rudely with me he tells me to wait 20 minutes and it will be done. I wait 45 minutes and he gives the bag back. The chain was fixed but the bag wasn't cleaned at all! Owner would not give me a refund. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS SCAM ARTIST!!! read more

They refused to admit that they had done the damage and would not refund me the repair cost. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. I just gave them the real brass buckle I purchased online and the Naugahyde one that came apart and in a few days my belt was ready. Good price for quality craftsmanship. I will not be returning to this place, like I said the guy argued with me multiple times when I told him that I could buy a new item for less than what he was asking just to repair it. I've had very expensive saddles and tack repaired at other shops in the past for way less $$ than he wanted to charge me to do a simple repair on a leather belt. Outrageous.
