On the day of my first PT session, I was in tears from the pain shooting from my neck, through my shoulder, and into my arm- symptoms of a large disc herniation in my neck. Less than a month later I have minimal pain, I've stopped taking ibuprofen, and my range of motion is massively improved. The staff at Athletico are friendly and the facility is very clean and organized. Most importantly, my therapist Dan is THE BEST. The sessions were efficient and effective, and the only tears shed were from laughter. Dan's skills and knowledge as a therapist are matched with his quick wit and sense of humor that put anyone at ease. And the dry needling is a game changer, for sure. Everyone should try it. Today I "graduated" and it was a little sad; I really looked forward to the sessions. I will be forever grateful for the immediate relief Dan provided and for teaching me how to continue improving. I give Dan and Athletico my highest recommendation. read more

Atheletico Evansaton South was very professional and friendly. More important Krista was able diagnose and provide instant relief on my elbow tendon. With 4 weeks Krista was able to have my elbow at 100%. I would not hesitate to go back. read more

My granddaughter Kelsey recommended Kelly Shaw at the Lockport, IL location when I was in need of finding a physical therapist for lower back and sciatic nerve pain. Kelly was very professional and disciplined yet compassionate, patient and understanding to my particular situation. Above all, I have tremendous improvement. I finished by treatments yesterday, but she has set up a follow-up program that I can continue to do at home and an APP that can encourage that. Great system, I think! Thank you, Kelly! read more

I have just completed seven weeks of treatment at Athletico located at 20 N Michigan. The first meeting was devoted to a general assessment performed by Ms. Anand. The following fourteen sessions consisted of exercises designed to address my specific health challenge. I found Ali Graham exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. She watched the progress of my recovery very carefully, and she took time to think and to adjust the treatment by assessing the incremental results. She was continuously trying and adding new exercises to address my issues in ways that reflected the progressive development of positive outcomes. I greatly benefited from her vast knowledge and experience, combined with her honest evaluation of my condition at my age. When I decided to seek treatment at that site, I was expecting good results because this was not my first encounter with Athletico or with this specific location. However, the set of individuals working there has changed and I was very happy to see that everyone made me feel valued, listened to my reports related to my health challenges, and allowed me to develop a pleasant personal connection with them. My experience at this site exceeded my expectations thanks to Ali, her "student" Lucy, and her "assistants" Rupie and Nicole, who were also involved in supervising some of my exercises. And Faith - at the front desk - added to the overall welcoming atmosphere at this site. Ali Graham not only designed and supervised my exercises, but she also trained her assistant Lucy. I was quite impressed with Lucy's desire to benefit from the learning opportunity she has been offered by Ali. Over the course of the seven weeks that I spent there I was able to watch her continuous growth as a practitioner. She was slowly becoming more and more comfortable following Ali's guidance, and she was receptive also to the feedback I offered her as a patient. She not only accepted my remarks but right away she tried to implement some modifications that I suggested. I believe that her willingness to learn combined with her pleasant personality will help her greatly in the process of becoming a highly skilled health care provider. read more

I highly recommend Athletico North. The staff and front desk folks are friendly, efficient and very professional. My PT Jim Borre was amazing. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been matched with him. To say Jim is an excellent PT is an understatement. Not only did he completely explain everything he had me do to improve, he also got to know me personally and focused on my interests. He was able to connect my interests with my therapy which made my recovery exercises much easier to fit into my routine. read more

I had a hip replacement, and set up physical therapy with Meredith Mangus at the Hyde Park East location. When I met her the first time during my evaluation, I liked her immediately. She was very thorough and easy to talk to. I saw her twice a week for several weeks until I went on vacation. She really helped me get moving again. I had a slight setback and started seeing her. I like that she changes things up constantly and we're not doing the same things all the time. I would recommend her highly. read more

I had exceptional care with Ali Graham. About four years after a total foot reconstruction, I was experiencing some ankle pain and tightness at the top of my foot from scaring. Ali took great care in showing me the exercises that would help elevate the pain. She also treated me for knee pain. She showed me the proper technique for my workouts so I would not hurt myself when doing my exercise classes outside of physical therapy. Ali was also consistently providing me with updated exercises as I made progress. I highly recommend Ali and the other physical therapists at Athletico on Michigan Avenue. read more

AVOID AVOID AVOID The therapists at Athletico do not do a thorough job of assessing when you begin. They ask a few questions and let the computer spit out an treatment plan. I went in for lower back issues and after a period of time, I noticed the pain was worse. My doctor then referred me to an Orthopedic specialist who did some imaging and recommended a different physical therapist. This new physical therapist immediately discovered the source of the issue and gave me a completely different treatment plan. He specifically told me to STOP doing all of the exercises Athletico had recommended. The staff at Athletico were nice, but they did not do enough up front to fully understand the source of my pain. I'm sure Athletico is fine for some rehab patients, but beyond that, I would recommend going elsewhere. After finding a new physical therapist and getting a better treatment plan, my back is feeling significantly better. read more

Athletico Lincoln Park East in Chicago came through for me again! Just a fantastic staff! Angela and staff treated my left hip recovery with a careful, detailed plan each visit! I walk with the aid of a cane due to being only halfway done with full hip replacement. About 20 minutes into each of Athletico's sessions, I felt so wonderfully stretched I was able to move about the facility without my cane while finishing remaining exercises! 5 stars! And I will return to them after my right hip surgery! Bruce read more

I am currently receiving therapy at Athletico Old Town. I chose it because it is convenient. While at least one therapist is competent and knowledgeable, all are not. But the bad part is the way Athletico has a model according to which it operates on a "short-staff" basis to save money and earn more for the company. Therapists are assigned to deal with more than one patient at a time. Before the hour of therapy you paid for ends, your chosen therapist is likely to disappear to deal with another patient and another therapist who does not know your case in detail takes over to put you through some exercises. This therapist is also likely to be checking on other patients doing assigned exercises at the same time--or, as happened to me--she might just walk away to socialize with other therapists. The therapist won't stay to check if you are doing the exercise correctly or to give you any encouragement. Once you finish the exercise, you have to look for the therapist so that you can know what exercise to do next. I have had physical therapy at other places. There the therapist stayed with me for the full time I am paying for. I have never heard of the "model" Athletico operates on and do not recommend it. read more

I can't say enough good things about the people at this Athletico location. I went to them for 3 months with bad, bad, bad heel spurs/plantar fascitis/Achilles tendonitis. The entire staff was great - Mandy, Melissa, Brendan, Courtney and others whose names escape me. I would also like to give a big shout out to their biling dept. for being so understanding. During my therapy I left my job and, though I still had my insurance, money was tight and they allowed me to make payments. I appreciated this greatly. I highly recommend them for massages also. Courtney's deep tissue massage is the most painful leg massage I have ever endured (thank god for pillows/sheets to cry/yell into, shred and sweat on!!) but damn - it worked, and 40 mins later I was walking out of the place pain free. All in all, the staff was professional, friendly, positive, informative and gave me great tips on how to stretch my ass off to get this agonizing heel pain to go away. Now if I would only DO the exercises they prescribed, I would be all set. read more

Dummm ... da da dum daaaa dum .... dummm ... da da da dummm. After 'graduating' from PT, I can't seem to get Pomp and Circumstance out of my head. Earlier this week I got my Athletico t-shirt and walking papers. Overall, the experience was positive. Going in I knew what to expect, as recurrent hip and knee issues have made sure that this was not my first rodeo with PT. This location is convenient to where I live, making it painless to show up for the twice-weekly appointments with my therapist, Ann. The staff, from the front desk to the therapists, were nice and easygoing, with other therapists pitching in as needed to help me through my exercises. The only thing I will note is that sometimes I wasn't watched while I was doing the exercises. I felt this might have been improved, as I was coming off of a hip fracture, and proper form at this stage is crucial. I felt like I at times wasn't being corrected enough, when I knew from previous experiences at Pilates, gyms, etc. that instructors are constantly going around critiquing form. The exercises themselves don't require a ton (if any) equipment and can be done at home. Having off-ramped into working with a trainer at a gym, since I needed a hardcore plan that will help me rebuild my strength and muscle tone post-surgery, I still plan to keep up with the stretching exercises on my own. This location also offers massage therapy. Good to note as the massages are therapeutic and tailored to athletes, versus spa massages which might not always tick all the boxes from a rehabbing perspective. This location is in the heart of the Loop, so there are busy times, but I personally never had any trouble getting an appointment. read more

I can't say enough positive things about my experience at this Athletico location and their treatment of my rotator cuff myopathy. Initially Katie was my primary PT, although I worked with others too due to scheduling conflicts and was impressed by the skills and knowledge of all. Reception desk staff is friendly and professional too. After a pause in therapy, followed by a re-triggering my injury, and a new PT order from my PCP I started working with Matt Stearns. Very positive experience - almost immediately my range of motion improved and I had decreased pain. The exercises I was assigned to do at home definitely helped too and I am happy to report that after just a few weeks of physical therapy my strength has improved and I am almost pain free! This is amazing after dealing with a painful shoulder for years. Thank you Athletico! read more

This place is great. Its a completely collegial atmosphere - everyone is friendly and fun, I truly enjoyed each visit. Brendan was my therapist. He's an avid runner, a good listener and a patient observer. In short, a total professional. He did a super-thorough job of identifying some mechanical issues in my running stride, and the accompanying course of therapy exercises helped to cure my chronic IT band problem. Within a matter of months, I went from having serious pain during 10k runs to pain-free heavy marathon mileage. Last week I finished the Ironman Wisconsin, and it would never have been possible without Brendan and the Athletico folks. If you're an athlete, you won't find a better group of people to get you back on track. read more

I love these guys! Scott J was my PT, but I ended up working with most of the others during the months I was a patient. The whole group is entertaining and as sweet as could be. Athletico 20 N Michigan Ave Ste 103 Chicago, IL 60602 (312) 236-0660 1/31/2010 Whoever hires the employees at this location is a superior judge not only of ability but of personality and character. I've rarely seen a group of employees with such an overall pleasant way about them. The receptionists all greet you by name with a smile; the therapists and assistants are courteous, everyone there helps to make an unpleasant experience not only bearable but almost something to look forward to. EVERYONE WAS NICE TO ME. This is much more rare than it should be. Therapy for a frozen shoulder is painful, there's no way around it. But therapist Scott Johnson did his best, getting me to jabber to get my mind off the pain of stretching--sounds easy, but not all young people will go the extra mile to help an old lady. And he was skillful--I got "cured" more rapidly than I thought possible. I hope I never have to go back, but if I do the anxiety won't be nearly as great as it could be. After a pair of surgeries on my left leg and a couple of months in the hospital, the last thing I wanted was to have physical therapy tacked on to the rest of my not inconsiderable schedule of follow-up appointments with doctors in half-a-dozen different specialties. But now that I've finished my 8 weeks of PT, I couldn't be happier with the results, and, for the most part, the service Athletico provided. My therapist, Denise, was awesome. Very patient and accommodating, but still focused on doing what I had to to reach 100% recovery in my affected leg. She offered a lot of advice and information on things I could be doing at home or work or whenever I wasn't actually AT therapy to continue improving my rate of recovery. If, God forbid, I or someone I know need physical therapy again, I would not hesitate in recommending her. Also, the facilities at the Michigan Ave. Athletico were totally satisfactory. The equipment was always clean and reasonably well-maintained, and the bathroom and changing facilities were equally nice. It wasn't difficult to get to, being so close to public transportation of pretty much every kind, and the support staff was incredibly nice. My only problem with the experience was the difficulty I had in scheduling appointments. It was impossible to get appointments at reasonably convenient times, or, failing that, a regular appointment at an odd time. I'm willing to deal with an early morning appointment 2 times a week if it's consistent from week to week, but going from 7am to 7pm to 12:30 pm back to 7am made scheduling a real hassle. My advice would be to show up, ask for Denise, and book 2 months of appointments in advance. read more

I wish I had done more research and pushed for better care. I was completely underwhelmed with the attention my teen daughter received after her initial consultation. I would sit and watch the therapist give her direction then leave her in order to attend to another patients. This happened every time. After 5 visits, we decided that we could just do the exercises at home since she was not getting focused attention. When I received the final bill, I was in shock that this company can charge such a fee for having my daughter walk across the room and on the treadmill with little to no supervision/instruction from a therapist. read more

Highly professional staff, nice atmosphere, nice location. Lots of athletes using this location. Scott Johnson rules - he is a great PT who has kept me playing sports after shoulder and back injuries. Really knows his stuff, medically, and I can tell you Scott was much better for my shoulder than the PT of the world No. 1 tennis player. Marnie is also a great massage therapist - very effective. read more

I have a chronic knee problem. I have been to physical therapy literally a dozen times since my teen years: sometimes post-operatively or after an injury and other times for strengthening to prevent injury. I have been to the Spine & Sports Center of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (the famed RIC) and I have been to places in the burbs and I have been to a facility associated with Northwestern on St. Clair. I have had many physical therapists over the years and varying levels of confidence in the treatment I received. I had confidence in the people at this Athletico. My PT was brand new (my first day was also his first day). HIs name was Mike and he was overseen by the facilitie's manager, also named Mike. They gave me some great exercises, did joint manipulation when it was appropriate, and really used the modalities to good effect including russian e-stim and the Game Ready. They taught me McConnell taping so I was able to continue that after my two months of visits was over. I had a solid knowledge base going in there because of my history of PT and, instead of marginalizing that, they acknowledged it and really listened to what I had to say about how my body felt and what the results were. I can't recommend them enough and wish that I had gone there in the first place. I may have a better knee now if I had. Suffice it to say, I will be going here from now on. read more

Go Here! I recently finished up rehabbing my broken hand with Nancy who is top notch and just amazing. She did a wonderful job of tending to my scar and hand strength. I'm currently undergoing therapy with Mandy and would highly recommend her. She is tough, firm, and knows her stuff. She will put you through your paces, but will have you thanking her multiple times over when she pinpoints the pain / injury. Check out Athletico, you can't go wrong! read more

I came to this Atletico location because of two injuries (hamstring and mid-back). Despite not having gotten better after seeing various PT's in the past, I improved significantly through my PT sessions at Atletico. I worked with Kim and Dan McCoy and I would recommend them both -- they are excellent, professional PT's. Most of my sessions were with Dan, and I can attest to him being very knowledgeable and fun to work with. Also, the front-desk staff at this location are super nice and friendly. Definitely recommended - I will go back here if I ever need PT again in Chicago. read more

What a great group of people from the appointment desk, Michael & Iliana to the assistance (Brandon, Ashley & Debbie) to the PT's Dan McCoy & Katie. Everyone is very helpful & the two PT's are very knowledgable. I've been seen mostly by Dan & he is excellent; very efficient, caring, positive & always has a smile on his face. Optimism is great when treating people with health issues. The downside is, difficult to get an appointment but that speaks for itself. Highly recommend this location!! read more

I first visited Athletico after reading Yelp reviews, because I was in town for a longterm business trip and needed help with some chronic pain. I ended up purchasing a series of massages and coming back for PT on my foot, hips, and shoulder. Courtney, my massage therapist, is simply the best I've ever worked with. Not only did I walk out of every session feeling *almost* normal, but the massages contributed greatly to my healing process. Courtney is not only good at her job, but a sweet and genuinely caring young woman. My principal PT was Melissa, but because she was on vacation during part of my time there I ended up working with Natalie and Mandy as well. All three were great. I wasn't crazy about my session with Natalie, only because she was working with someone else simutaneously, but she was filling in for Melissa at the time. Other than that, I have no complaints. People here are courteous and caring, they get the job done, they accommodated my crazy schedule, and I always felt better when I left. It's a great place to go for your PT. read more

What can I do to get back to full activity as soon as possible? How do I make sure this never happens again? One complementary visit with Sean, and the guy answers all of my questions. He spent more than 45 minutes with me and walked through ALL of my questions, bringing his obvious expertise to bear on all of my concerns. Initially, I was impressed. But the treatment never progressed and was only changed once when I was finally able to bear weight on my badly (shattered) broken leg. Scott is pretty good - at least when he left you unattended, he always knew when you were through or should be through. But, I was given some home exercises to do and they changed only once despite improving conditions. I was always able to work out harder and at a higher level at home that they never acknowledged. They seem to have a cookie cutter approach where one size fits all. Over time, I felt as if they were not being specific or attentive to my needs and continued improvement. The worst part, though, came when Mandy took over. She's friendly enough but pretty much phoned in the therapy sessions. She was so involved with other conversations with other staff that I was often left to my own devices to exercise on my own. The staff consistently had so many conversations with each other that I almost felt like I was an intrusion upon their busy day. I finally had to start over with my physical therapy and have found what I needed and is more consistent with improving conditions and actually treating side issues brought up. read more

This place is a huge rip off. My doctor sent me here for a one time visit to get an at home program to treat thoracic outlet syndrome. The therapist spent an hour asking questions and then began to tell me what we were going to do in our upcoming sessions . I said, "my Doctor sent me here for a one time visit, look at the prescription." At this point he got very upset, probably because he wouldn't be making any money. He insisted I set up future appointments and he would contact my doctor. He gave me two pages to take home - one had 2 exercises on it and the other a picture of how to set up my desk. For this I was billed almost $200.00. I called and cancelled the future appointment he requested I make and went to a chiropractor to do PT. They only billed me $46. for an evaluation PT and an adjustment. Stay away unless you want to spend a lot of money. read more

When my doctor tried to make me go to rehab, I said "No, No, Nooooo...." I herniated a disc in my neck early this summer, and I was worried that my triathlon season was doomed. Well ... it was ... I didn't compete in any races, but at least I had a fun time going through physical therapy at Athletico. Mike Morrow was my therapist, and not only was he highly entertaining and fun to be around (he has a great rapport with the other employees there), but he also knew his stuff. He gave me great advice and info on how to go about easing back into triathlon training, told me which races he thought I should sit out, which ones I could do, and offered some advice on places to get my bike fitted to avoid neck problems in the future. I can't recommend him enough. Fortunately, my injury wasn't a severe one, but after only three weeks of therapy, I'm back to 90% effort training and am feeling great, no lingering symptoms. It seems like they try really hard to accommodate your schedule, and they're open late and on Saturdays so you can go even if you do the 9-5 thing. Also, one time I accidentally missed my appointment, mistakenly thinking it was a day later than it actually was ... and Mike fit me in anyway, with no penalty fee (and he didn't even make me do extra reps that day!) Try not to get injured. But if you do, then go to Athetico for physical therapy. read more

I injured my knee from running a race in March. I was resistant to seeking physical therapy treatment and hoped time would do the trick. Although I was able to walk normally again after a few months of rest, I could not run or jump without sharp pain that would make me involuntarily scream in anguish. Going into physical therapy, I had braced myself for the idea that I might not ever be able to run or jump again. I started physical therapy and I'm so happy I did.
