I highly recommend In Motion PT and I can't thank Dr. Lauren Schnidman enough. For over a month I was unable to raise my right arm higher than shoulder level. My mobility was limited to less than 20% of what it was before (e.g., brushing hair, lifting my kids, reaching up in any direction). My symptoms mimicked a torn rotator cuff but without the pain. It was bizarre; even my PC doctor at Northwestern assumed it was a partially torn rotator cuff. It was my second appointment when Lauren asked me to perform a few additional tests because she felt something didn't add up. After the third test, she discovered that I had in fact a pinched nerve (C4/C5). Over the course of 6 weeks I continued therapy, followed her at home instructions, and made a full recovery. I found Dr. Schnidman a couple of months ago, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. I've had chronic pain - herniated discs, sciatica, scoliosis, sports injuries - for the last decade, that got so bad that I had to stop exercising altogether. I've had different therapists offer targeted treatment for acute injuries, most of which allowed me to get back to my sports temporarily, but I've never been given the holistic treatment plan that Lauren prescribed. A few months ago, I was scared that I'd be in pain or discomfort forever; two months in, I'm sleeping more comfortably and I'm getting back into the movement I love. I had a Grade Two Hamstring Strain Tear in Oct 23, 2020. After a month of recovery, I was still limping and can barely put my shoes on. After another month of RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation), I was still not able to run or walk correctly (my gait was off); this greatly affected my performance in my daily gym workouts and recreational sports (bowling, tennis, etc.). I decided to see a PT and undergo physical therapy in hoping to recover, strengthen, and achieve full mobility of my leg again. I was skeptical that it was going to be expensive, painful and time consuming (traveling back and forth with an injured leg). However, Lauren was amazing. She is motivating, flexible, understanding, and good at what she does. In Motion Physical Therapy at Chicago was COVID-safe. Lauren wipes everything down and check my temperature before I can enter. She works with my crazy schedule and even offered virtual sessions (telehealth) for days I wasn't able to attend the clinic. Lauren is very informative in different techniques and workouts to improve my hamstring tear. She is funny and would always make my therapy session entertaining. March, I am able to comfortably squat 275 lbs. My running gait has greatly improve. I am able to run/walk at a moderate pace for over 1.5 miles. I am able to bowl and play tennis with normal mobility. I am thankful for Lauren in helping me through this injury. I had a great experience at In Motion, which I started going to for low back pain. I was initially hoping the problem would go away on its own, but after having difficulties for a month, I decided I needed to try physical therapy. Both Lauren and Mike were very knowledgeable and great to work with. Seeing them twice a week really improved my back, which was fully recovered within a few months. I had hamstring and shin pain from weight lifting. After a few sessions at a well known physical therapy clinic, found that I was not getting what I needed so decided to look elsewhere. After researching a number of places, decided to try In Motion. Lauren, the physical therapist and Owner, helped me not only reduce the pain from the injuries I had but also identified an issue with my weight lifting form which likely contributed to my injuries. There are no other physical therapists in the space during the session. Knowledgeable and Detail Oriented - I like that Lauren addresses questions head on rather than with ambiguous answers like I had received at the previous clinic I went to. After the 4th broken ankle and multiple sprains, I decided it was necessary for some PT. At the time we started, I was still in a boot/brace and pretty limited in my mobility. I had met the owner, Lauren, through professional networking and was excited for a connection with someone knowledgeable in the field. Lauren has a great facility, always meets one-on-one and is really focused on what you need during the session. I like that she is knowledgeable in a variety of treatments, so we could really customize the treatment to the exact pain and function issues that I was experiencing. Over the course of three or four years Lauren has helped me recover from a few different injuries. I came to her at first with low back pain, and she helped turn it around very quickly. She also helped me understand how sitting all day at my desk job was a major contributing factor to this problem. More recently, I injured my glutes and hamstrings in both legs and also irritated my sciatic nerve in both legs. When I came back to Lauren, I could barely walk and had moderate to severe pain in my legs at all times. This injury was harder and slower to treat, but her experience and confidence were instrumental in helping me recover and progress. Now that my legs are in better shape, I have continued to work with Lauren as a personal trainer so I can get in better shape to help prevent future injuries. Lauren is basically our family physical therapist. She is located in Lincoln Park and has treated my father, brother and me for various injuries. I twisted my ankle and ended up with a 5th metatarsal break. I was in a boot for about two months and its shocking how much strength/flexibility you lose after being immobilized for that long. Lauren was able to reduce my pain within just a few appointments and get my back to pre-injury state within 5 weeks. Each appointment was about an hour long and had her full attention for the duration of the appointment. She really knows her stuff and makes sure she is up on the latest techniques and research. Each time she was prepared with new exercises as I progressed so nothing is cookie cutter with her. As person, she is funny and personable. Always has something interesting to talk about so the appointments always went by fast. She went above and beyond to treat me. I was her first worker's comp patient and she went through the effort to get approved to work with me. She was allowed to work with me for six weeks, but discharged me earlier because I was good to go. I appreciated that she didn't drag things along. I am happy to say that I am now armed with exercises to perform in the future to prevent a similar injury and feel like I'm back to possibly better shape than I was before. read more

Lauren at In Motion Physical Therapy has been an amazing help! I went in due to two nagging issues: knee and calf. Together these two issues would keep me sidelined from running for months at a time. I tried a chiropractor and a big chain physical therapy company and neither helped - neither really got to the root issues I think that really set Lauren apart, the approach of solving the problem and not the result. She took a whole body approach and really helped improve weaknesses everywhere that were contributing to my calf and knee pain. I am able to run without taking months off and having pain. I had a fantastic experience working with Lauren. She was able to quickly diagnose the cause of my hip pain as tendinitis which was impacting my ability to exercise. I was experiencing pain for a few weeks before seeking Laurens help, and after a few weeks of working and doing Laurens prescribed exercises my hip pain has almost disappeared completely, and I am confident it will heal with long-term improvements in the coming weeks. I had neck pain and tightness for over 3 months and was recommended a myofascial massage by my PCP. I did a consultation and treatment with Lauren and she knew right away that wasn't the right treatment. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Lauren! I was in the midst of training for the Chicago marathon and suddenly was struggling with right hip/glute issues. I met with her for a series of sessions to work on glute strength, core strength, and flexibility. Lauren with In Motion is fantastic! It felt like our meeting was meant to be. I met Lauren at a workout studio while in so much back pain. We began talking and I knew I needed to get started on physical therapy and that she was the PT for me. I'd hurt my back from working out and was so upset that I had to halt my normal routine. I had shoulder pain on and off for months and had gotten some help for it in Pilates class and with massages. One day I woke up with horrible pain. I could not even put on my shirt comfortably. I decided it was time to get professional help. Lauren made me feel at ease and talked me through what was wrong, why I was feeling pain, and exactly what she could do to help me. She gave me a technical diagnosis but also explained it to me in laymen's terms. She also talked me through how to breathe properly while she worked on me, which made everything go smoothly. Lauren Schnidman, owner of In Motion, is the best Physical Therapist I have ever worked with. I had rotator cuff surgery, and after I ran out of insurance approved therapy, I did the work at home. Then I found out that I had a pinched nerve in my neck and it was affecting my shoulder and left arm. I came back to physical therapy and was assigned to Lauren. That was my lucky day. She worked hard to help me while I was at the Therapy Center, and she also gave me great at-home exercises to do that were not too complicated. I went to Lauren at In motion a Physical Therapy in Lincoln Park with a calf strain and lower back pain from running that I had been suffering from for over a year. Lauren told me she would get me back to feeling better than I could even remember and she did just that! I have been dealing with consistent pain in my hip and glute area on and off for a few years before being referred to In Motion Physical Therapy. Lauren is amazing! I had the most wonderful experience with her and I can't recommend her enough. I'm a runner and a tennis player but I injured my hip running a little over a year ago and was diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement. I couldn't do any physical activity that was more strenuous than walking. I tried physical therapy at other chain companies but did not improve at all. A friend then recommended that I see Lauren and it was a completely different and amazing experience. Lauren is the best!!! I had ankle surgery in January 2021 and started physical therapy in March. She was so accommodating with my schedule in the beginning since I had difficulty walking and needed help to get out of my house, and then she quickly helped me regain mobility and independence. Thanks to other reviews, I was excited to work with Lauren because I wanted a consistent therapist without distractions of other patients and therapists. But the experience was even better than I'd hoped! Her setup is great because everything is one-on-one. I have a history of lower back (L4-S1) issues, including two prior surgeries for herniated discs and was having some nagging pain when returning to running after having my second child (and second c-section). I worked with Lauren in-person at her clinic in Lincoln Park and virtually to build my core and also focus on other areas where I needed to improve strength, flexibility, and mobility. I went to see Lauren in Lincoln Park after being referred by my primary physician. I was experiencing pain in my hip and behind my knee, and had to stop rock climbing and weekly workout routines. I didn't think physical therapy would do anything for me. I had been to other PTs before and felt they did not really listen to the issues I was experiencing, so I assumed all PTs were the same and wouldn't actually care about my progress or getting me back to the activities I like most. Lauren is very personable, passionate, and I can tell she is very motivated to help me. She's also very knowledgeable and clearly has a great understanding of how the body works. I initially had pain in the knee when squatting, lunging, and going up the stairs, along with very tight hamstrings. With Lauren's expertise, I no longer experience that pain to the extent I had before and am confident that by the time this process is over, I'll be back to climbing in no time. I went to Lauren in Lincoln Park for problems with right shoulder likely stemming from poor form during weightlifting. I was diagnosed with impingement. This shoulder also caused me pain when I would play golf. The issue did not go away for about 3-4 months and I could not do specific exercises so I decided to see a physical therapist. Lauren helped me with my left rotator cuff a couple years before and so I decided to see her again. Lauren had a lot of flexibility with my work scheduling was very easy. One of the best parts was that all of my sessions were 1 on 1. Other places will have 1 PT working with multiple people at the same time. After about 10 sessions I was able to resume working out like I was before and playing golf pain free. Since Lauren is also a personal trainer she was able to teach my proper ways of lifting so that the issue does not reoccur. She left me with a series of specific rotator cuff exercises to maintain the health of my shoulder. I would highly recommend her for physical therapy. read more

Lauren has wonderful technical expertise AND is great with patients in terms of connecting with them as a person, being empathetic, and also holding them accountable (tough love!). I have had a torn labrum in my left hip for 2 years and have had to deal with managing hip pain ever since. I came to Lauren for a "tune up" -- I already have a routine I use to keep my hips strong and healthy, but some hip pain had crept back, and I could tell my glutes weren't firing properly. Lauren gave me just 3 exercises in 1 session and had me back on my feet, moving and grooving in barely any time at all! Now I've added those moves to my routine to be able to walk, climb stairs, and work out without pain. I love how much she genuinely cares for her patients; it's the opposite experience of going to big PT chains like Athletico that just churn & burn through people.
