I moved to the Black Mountain, NC area 4 years ago (2016). I had been working with a personal…read moretrainer in Atlanta, and I was anxious to find a gym near my new home. I visited a few "big box" gyms in Asheville and Black Mountain, then Ascending Fitness. I was immediately drawn to the small group cross training classes there (think physically safe, not like some other cross training places where injuries abound), but I doubted I could get as good a workout in a group vs. individually. Boy, was I wrong! After attending the group classes over a period of time, I realized I'd NEVER been stronger and in better shape (I'm a 62 yr. old woman, BTW), and the social aspect of a small group was fun and kept me motivated. I've been working out there 3 times a week ever since. The workouts are full body, including strength, balance, and aerobic. It's amazing how much Jim can work into 45 minutes. He also has a great library of online videos that use body weight and all kinds of household and hotel items to workout - very handy while we were all housebound due to Covid. If you're just starting out with a program, Jim also offers classes in balance and stability and "bridge" classes to transition from balance and stability to the full circuit training class. I can't say enough about the positive effects working out at Ascending Fitness brought/brings to me. All the creaky, sore joints and back are pain free now. 100% recommend this place!

I love working out at Ascending Fitness! The group exercise is small-limited to 8 people. Jim Frith…read moreis by far the best trainer I've ever worked with. He's extremely careful about injury prevention and knows how to train all ages and fitness capabilities. I got tired of packed gyms where I would lift weights and hope for the best. I did not want shoulder surgery like many of my friends were needing after their workout injuries. I've missed Jim and his wonderful clients during COVID. Just a quick review on my personal experience at Original Workout from March 2022- May 2022.... My…read moremain objective was to find a trainer on behalf of my 14yr old son who is avid in sports and was looking to bulk up and build muscle for his upcoming HS football year. So, after doing some research I had contacted Original Workout for his needs who then recommended Ryan Gant, we were introduced he trained with him for a tryout session my son really liked him and Ryan seemed to fit his needs, so we committed to his $300 a month training sessions. Ryan was great for the 1st month then on after in the months to follow he was canceling at the last minute most of the time less than 20 mins before a session, rescheduling, and constantly changing the original time we committed to giving me the impression he didn't care about my son or his goals.... but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now bringing us to May where he only received 2 sessions and nothing but excuses and canceling at the last minute. Ryan disappeared without notice leaving my son hanging and me wasting my time only to show up and he wouldn't be there. He really disappointed my son and didn't seem to care about what my son was hopping to achieve he talked a good game but couldn't fulfill my sons goals leaving me to find someone else. He left me feeling like it was my son and that he didn't matter but after this experience I'd come to find out from several of his other clients and others in the industry that this is his pattern. I did request a full refund for that month which he gave but unfortunately I would NOT recommend him

I am finishing up on my 9th week at Phoenix Physical Training & OMG y'all, he is awesome…read more I meet with Jesse 3 days a week, 30 min sessions. He is working with me to rehabilitate & strengthen my body from a spinal cord injury & my latest back surgery. After 2 weeks, my family & friends were already seeing a big difference in my walking & activity level. The 4th week I was able to do 2 Walmart trips with my son. Y'all, I haven't been in a store since the later part of 2017. I suffer from lots of nerve damage, both active & chronic. My legs randomly give out on me causing falls. Public places were not an option for me until now. I am even confident now enough to run a few errands on my own. This is huge for me. Anyone who suffers from anything knows the toll it takes on you not just physically, but mentally as well. So just getting out can cause anxiety. Now I'm getting out 3 days a week going to a safe place that's helping me get better. A win-win for me for sure. Jesse is one of the most comfortable trainers/therapist that I have ever worked with. He is so patient & encouraging. I was going to one of the local popular physical therapy places for awhile & I wasn't comfortable. The girls there were great, but it was all out in the open & always lots of people around. No privacy. I dreaded going each time. Another issue I had with them was scheduling. By the time my insurance would approve sessions, this place wasn't able to accommodate them all in-in the time they had to be used by. I was missing out on a lot of therapy sometimes not able to get in for 2 wks. For some reason they wouldn't pre-schedule my visits. It was very frustrating & stressful. I Phoenix Physical Training for anyone either in my situation or just wanting help to get healthy & fit. I can not stress enough how good he is & how comfortable he is to work with. He really cares & is very passionate about helping others. I look forward to our sessions & can't wait to see where I'll be at physically in another 9 wks. I am so excited for my progress & forever grateful to Jesse for bringing me this far so quickly. Thank you.
