    Large Greek Salad with salmon
    Sharon D.

Sorry to say this, but the food was mediocre. I had higher expectations based on a friend's recommendation. Perhaps it was what we ordered (Greek salad with salmon and eggplant parm) but you would think those would have been among of their best offerings. The salad was nothing special, although the dressing was good, but the salmon was disappointing. My DIL's eggplant parmigiana was just okay. We were the only ones there during the dinner hour. At first, our waiter seemed annoyed, but warmed up with a little prodding. I wouldn't go back unless it was to try their b'fast menu, which they offer all day.

Would recommend Athena's Cafe! Today was my first time and wow it was great! We started with the hummus and pita, hummus was fresh and the pita was warm and tastes like it had just came out of the oven. I had the Chicken Dyonaises for dinner and it was amazing. Being a huge Greek food lover this did not disappoint. Will be back!

We have eaten at Athena's Cafe a half dozen times including breakfast and dinner. The food is consistently delicious, and the staff very accommodating. Their sweet tea, pork chops and flounder/shrimp are family favorites.

race city finally has a little greek joint in town! yea for us! the offerings are a bit restrained by midwestern-greek-joint standards but still cover a lot of ground in a few pages: standard breakfast fare plus salads, sandwiches, and pasta. add some seafood and some diner dinners and it starts to get busy like all good greek joint menus... stopped in for a morsel a while ago and did alright... coffee, icy water, hot tea and a table outside please? way too peopley inside and September was being kind to us so yeah, lunching al fresco. MLB got cakes and eggs and bacon which were about what you'd expect: eggs over easy with soft yolks, bacon still a little bendy, cakes light and fluffy but yellower on the inside than we are accustomed. CFS for me: breaded chop steak under sausage gravy plus two eggs up, taters and toast. all of it done well and served hot with refills on the beverages in a timely manner. no complaints this time around, time will tell if it's a fluke or normal operations. hoping for the latter as a good non-doughnut breakfast is getting hard to find.

The country breakfast....Chicken Fried steak, eggs with cheese, homefries and a biscuit.

The husband and I just tried out Athenas for breakfast and it was great. We were greeted when we entered by a very friendly waitstaff. I ordered a strawberry cranberry mimosa, it was delicious. The pancakes were huge! And everything was tasty. They serve the whole menu, breakfast lunch and dinner all day long so we will definitely come back.

$13 for a dry omelet and meh coffee. Very disappointing. Was hoping that a smaller non-chain restaurant would offer something special.

The previous owner and operator from New Jersey prided themselves on the best product and service…read morethey could offer. The gyros were authentic and delicious, a real gem out here. We had the misfortune today of wasting an 1 hr. roundtrip drive to experience the worst gyros possibly ever made. New management, NO manager on the floor, young people working their first job here. I don't know what side of the planet one would have to travel to suffer more offensive gyros like these. Unlike the original lamb gyros, these were some hybrid, air-injected, whipped-up meat molded back together to give the appearance of meat. One did not need teeth to bite through this mush-meat substitute with zero flavor. I tried three small bites and threw out the meal, as did my wife. The sandwich came out lukewarm and the fries barely warm. We spent $26.00, took a few bites, and walked the food back to the counter to throw it out. We asked to speak to a manager; nope, none here. We politely informed them how poor the food tasted, and that is when we found out about the new owners. We told them we were offended by the product, and they just walked away, not their problem. There was not one table with customers; how could they serve non-hot food? We informed them that we would never be back; embarrassing product. We were wiping our lips an hour later after the few bites, attempting to get the taste off our lips. It tasted like some type of grease fat - disgusting. As I write this, I see my previous review of 3-16-2024. This is HOW far this new restaurant has slid down the hill. They are currently doing a carryout business; this will NOT last long. The ONLY thing that gives this a 1-star rating is the fact that it looks like a restaurant and the walls are still standing. Could you make any less effort to run a business????

Just a step above. On a whim, my wife and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. I hadn't been to a Showmars in probably 20 years, and honestly, I'd forgotten what it was like. I ordered the traditional gyro with fries, and my wife had the All-American Pita Burger with onion rings. You order at the counter, find a seat, and then they bring your food out on real plates--actual dishes you have to wash. I was shocked. In a good way. My pita bread was excellent. The meat could've used a touch more seasoning, and the tzatziki was very tart--almost too tart for my taste--but still fresh and satisfying. The fries were perfect. My wife's pita burger was solid, though the meat seemed more like gyro meat than a traditional burger patty. But those onion rings? Fire. Crispy, golden, and totally addictive. We were genuinely impressed--and a little stunned, to be honest. The restaurant was clean, the service was fast and efficient, and the whole experience felt way above what I expected. Next time, I'm trying the fish. We saw a few plates go by and they looked incredible. To those about to nosh... we salute you!!

From the friendly service to the spotless interior to the 5/5 food, this place is the epitome of Showmars excellence! Oh, and parking is a breeze too. It was the end of a long, cold December night when my husband and I followed the North Star and happened into this place. With their cheerful faces, holiday decorations, and fresh, hot food, we were reminded that good things come to those who love Greek cuisine. I am always disappointed that they don't offer spinach pie, which is my favorite Greek dish... and alas, it seems they never will. However, their Greek pasta salad hits all the right notes with feta, olives, and red onions! That is a delicious dish--as good as if I had made it at home myself. For my main, I ordered the Chicken Santino and a plump baked potato; it was hot, delicious, and perfect. Their tzatziki sauce is zesty and flavorful, and I also got a strawberry shake which was a perfect treat. However, the experience wasn't entirely seamless. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich and fries, specifically asking for no pickles and light mayonnaise. They unfortunately did the exact opposite--extra pickles and heavy mayo. He actually wondered if they did it on purpose! Despite the mix-up, we still tipped them generously, but the order error is ultimately what cost them that fifth star.
