A good place to read magazines, research local history (a good archive, staffed by a knowledgable volunteer is also on the second floor) or escape the summer heat. Free wireless access. I imagine that it would be helpful if you have a disability that makes going inside difficult, or are in a hurry and just want to pick up and return items quickly. I was disappointed though, that this library is so small inside. Although there is a regular library inside, there are basically three parts -- one area with about 10 computers for public use, one area for small kids (preschool-early elementary age) and then a small selection of books. It would be nice if they had tables that could be used for working or a study area for older children, teens, and college students. Still, it's a convenience that they added this West Pasco location. The inside is very nice and new, and even though it is not large there are a few chairs placed so that you can sit and read. Free wifi as well. I guess you can't have everything!

There are many online options, and a drive they experience to enjoy. The most favorite features we enjoy are: grab bags, self check out, and pre-checkout for items requested. Unlike the library on Union, where it is spacious enough that conversations people are having in the space is easily ignored, you cannot do that here. I visited on a summer afternoon on a Wednesday. Kids were out of school and running around the library. A lady who sat about six feet away from me was actually on the phone, calling to complain to a company about some dress code that had her thrown out of a food establishment. I sat there for a while and couldn't drown out the noise even with headphones on. So I walked around the library. The library staff were doing kids activities in the middle of the library involving cups and things. I guess my point is that it isn't the greatest place to go to if you want to get work done or read a book in peace. However, for a library that small, they did have a wide range of books that I would actually read (although I couldn't find the Steinbeck book that I really wanted). The manga section is fairly extensive for a library of that size. I also enjoyed the artwork sprinkled around the small corners of the library and the staff appeared friendly. In fact, the lady working at the circulation desk is the best!

Being a complete nerd and a total bookworm I was excited to get a library card and check out books…read moreinstead of being impatient and spending too much money buying them at a bookstore. When I walked into this library I literally wanted to cry. The selection compared to the Kennewick and Richland branches is pitiful. Their section of novels are so incredibly miniscule and if you blink you'll miss their non-fiction section. They did seem to have a fair amount of computers. Half of their books are in Spanish, which I understand since there is a large Hispanic population but it makes me sad since I unfortunately don't speak Spanish. I tried getting a card at the Richland branch but I have to pay a significant fee in order to check out books that I would be better off just going to the bookstore. Guess I'll just have to be a little less nerdy and not read as much books.

Whitman is a great college for a well-rounded education and quality of life. The small town…read moreatmosphere lends well to cultivating meaningful relationships with professors, students, and staff that last well beyond college. These one-on-one interactions help students really discover who they are and can serve as excellent preparation for graduate school. I've even met some underclassmen doing graduate-level research with their professors (thanks to them being able to explore their passions and learn of openings in their preferred fields of study). They're innovating the curriculum to enable students to combine disparate interests into cohesive passions, so there's something for everyone. They're also building amazing dorms that I wish I had a chance to live in when I when to Whitman. Great places to live, learn, interact, and collaborate. They truly care about creating a place that's conducive to excellent quality of life. A great place to spend your formative years as an academic and as a person.

My daughter ultimately chose a different school in the end, but it was a tough choice. It is a great environment to genuinely grow and learn. Excellent springboard for grad school or a career.
