A loved one recently passed away...Since I was unable to travel to attend his funeral service, I wanted to send a floral arrangement/plant so that family members could have something cheerful & living to take home & care for after the services. After a few less-than-stellar prior experiences ordering floral arrangements without seeing them in-person (e.g., via telephone & online), I was admittedly a bit leery about placing a long-distance order in Chicago since I'm in California. As Forrest Gump says, "Ya never know what you're gonna get!" After checking Yelp, however, I decided to try my luck with "Athena Flowers." Wow! Was I in for a pleasant surprise! For starters, "Athena Flowers'" prices were reasonable. Not only this, but they kept me informed with regular updates on the status of my order. They initially sent a "Thank You" email upon receiving my order. Next, they sent an email thanking me (again) & letting me know the name of the floral designer who was actually working on my arrangement (very nice personal touch)! They emailed (again) to let me know that the arrangement was on its way to its destination. And, lastly, they emailed me (again) to inform me that the arrangement had been successfully delivered to the funeral home --- just in time for the visitation! And here's the shocker: Unlike many florists I've dealt with who charge a wire fee PLUS a delivery fee, "Athena Flowers'" delivery was actually FREE!!! As for the appearance of the arrangement, one of my family members snapped a photo of the plant I sent, & it was nice. Not too small, but not too large for a family member to carry home & enjoy for months, if not years to come. Cheerful, pleasant, & very fresh. The loss of a loved one is never easy, especially during the holiday season, & while remaining socially distant/isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic. For my wedding last July, I decided to go to Athena. Prices here were the similar to those in the area, but I chose Athena based on the service provided the first day and their stellar reviews. I left very excited and hopeful, as I was ensured to be amazed. I looked at their catalogues the day of, but I did not find a picture of exactly what I was looking for. I asked for a waterfall bouquet and made sure to show pictures of what I had in mind (picture shown below). Instead, I got a ball with greenery and sticks sticking out. What?!? That wasn't the worst part! I asked for delivery to my hotel on the morning of the wedding, as I was sure no one would be able to pick it up. Delivery was scheduled for 11am, and when that time came around, I had my maid of honor call. Guess what! They had completely forgotten about my bouquet's delivery. I don't remember exactly what the excuse was, but I was told that they would send someone out "immediately." I was to walk down the aisle at 1pm, so my mother and maid of honor stayed behind to wait for the bouquet to arrive. Right as they were about to leave at 12:40 (since they couldn't wait any longer), the bouquet arrived. They didn't know what I had ordered, and they were in a rush (as you could imagine), so they took the bouquet and left. When they arrived to the church, I couldn't believe my eyes. What was that?!? It wasn't ugly, but it wasn't what I had ordered. For a bouquet of well over $200, I was hoping for much more. What can I say? Make sure they have a real picture of what you're looking for? Call two days prior to make sure they don't forget you? For whatever it's worth, at least the boutonnières were nice. Also, no we didn't receive an apology or anything after. The owner repeatedly attempted to get ahold of my brother-in-law since they couldn't reach me. My cousin's wedding was in a little over a month ago, and I was the maid of honor. I went with her to pick out all the arrangements, and was blown away by the work they do. We just got in the wedding photos, so this goes out to all future brides...if you're going to splurge on something for your wedding, please have it be the flowers. My cousin's wedding flowers were beautiful all the way from the cake, to the center pieces, to her bouquet and ours(bridesmaids.) I don't recall the name of the girl we had the consultation with, but she was incredible! She was so patient with us, and I loved that they had actual examples in the store, as well as piles and piles of albums PACKED with their work. She was so good at showing us what she thought would look good, and gave us amazing options to choose from. The bouquets were all delivered to us that morning, and by the time we arrived at the venue, everything was set up, and as we were getting ready to go at the end of the night they arrived to pick up the vases. I know this may not sounds like a lot, but trust me, when you're running around from the moment you get up, it's INCREDIBLE to know that you don't have to worry about picking up the flowers or making sure they set up right, or collecting all the vases to make sure to return them the next day. I went in with a specific idea, and let's just say it was portrayed beautifully! I made an order for 2 dozen roses for my grandmothers birthday. Athena flowers went above and beyond in the arrangement and making my idea come to life. I've found myself a permanent florist and I'm so happy. I had it delivered and they came in the time frame however it was barely within the last 15 minutes of the time frame which kind of sucked but for how beautiful the flowers were, it made up for it. I am so absolutely thrilled that I chose Athena Flowers as my wedding florist. From the initial contact until the big day, Gabby was so sweet and helpful. At the initial meeting, I told her what I had envisioned for the bouquets, receptions, ceremony mass, etc., and Gabby gave me a ton of options and ideas that I would have never came up with on my own. Her prices were also unbeatable. I went to a few flower shops before visiting Athena Flowers, and Athena Flowers' prices were by far the most reasonable for the quality. On the day before the wedding, I had completely forgotten to order a unity candle and almost completely panicked. I called up Gabby and she came to the rescue. She assured me that I didn't have to worry. On the day of the wedding, I had a beautiful unity candle waiting for me at the altar (along with my sweet groom :-) She also arranged to have the Unity candle in a beautiful holder surrounded by gorgeous flowers. She told me later she purposely put together the flowers around a holder she made so that I wouldn't be charged an outrageous amount for a standard unity candle holder. Also, on the morning of the wedding, she called my maid of honor and said she had extra hydrangeas she thought would look great in my centerpieces and asked if I wanted them. I love hydrangeas and said "absolutely," and am so very glad I did. The hydrangeas made the centerpiece really pop. My wedding party's flowers also looked amazing and better than I had imagined. We ended up choosing Athena Flowers to do all the flowers for our dream downtown wedding last September. I can't stress enough on how happy I am to work with Ewelina!! I am one of those really picky brides in that I do a TON of research before finalizing my selection and signing the contract. Prior to going here, I went to a number of top Chicago event designers (e.g. Kehoe, Yanni's) and floral shops (e.g. Fleur). I had specific visions of how I wanted the arrangements to be and originally felt all these places would be able to provide the level of quality and design I expected. I was astounded by the quotes I got, main difference was the labor cost but there were differences in the flower markups as well. After fretting about who to go with, I remembered how some of my girlfriends had Ewelina at Athena Flowers do their weddings. I made a last ditch call to her and came in to see if she could carry out my vision. Not only did she do it, but she exceeded my expectations with the quality and design of the actual arrangements, bouquets, boutonnieres and most importantly the final quote. To keep labor costs down you just need to return the vases to the shop within the week (this was not a problem). It was a no-brainer to go with Athena Flowers. Ewelina is wonderful to work with and the shop owner is so sweet. I felt really comfortable at the shop. I came in twice, once for the initial consultation and the second to see table arrangement samples of what I wanted and to make modifications. In between the visits to the big day, we also communicated through email and phone to finalize the exact colors (I had 2 primary and 1 secondary colors), flowers, and all those little design details. Ewelina provided great design and cost savings ideas. She was very responsive and professional. On the day of my wedding, I was at ease and did not have to even think about the flowers. The owner delivered all bouquets and boutonnieres to my house in the burbs early that morning where we had a traditional home ceremony. When we got to the church near downtown, everything was already arranged beautifully. At the hotel reception, again everything was arranged beautifully and finished before we got there. The only thing I regret is not putting more thought into how I wanted my card & gift table arrangements to be (my fault totally) only because the other arrangements turned out so elegantly beautiful and elaborate. I highly recommend Athena Flowers. Ewelina is an asset to the shop and is fantastic to work with. I will use them again for other major events. read more

We came in to discuss and show her what we wanted, and she worked hard to come up with pretty and elegant flowers that fit into our budget and our vision.
