I think the health department needs to pay a visit to this place. They are storing their lettuce/salad bin right next to the heated rotisserie in plain sight of the customers. A big no no. Cold items need to be kept separate and temperature regulated. Only a matter of time before somebody gets sick. I don't know if Lafayette parish has health department ratings for restaurants, but it would be good to have the "A grade" posted in plain sight. Changed gas station food for me forever. I live out west now and have yet to find a Greek/Lebanese place that satisfies like Athena's. It's convenient (obviously haha) and way reasonably priced. This gas station (which also has food) intentionally rips people off. Sign advertised regular at $4.29. There is NO SIGNAGE that says it a cash price. I had driven by a few times running errands and checked the sign carefully to make sure it didn't say "cash price" anywhere. I drove well out of my way to buy gas here because of the price advertised. After pumping gas on a credit card I realized I had paid $4.39/gallon. I went inside and they said "that's the cash price". "But your sign says $4.29, it does not say anything about it being a cash price". "It's on the pump when you start pumping". "Your sign is supposed to have the correct price, it's a state law" "We don't have access to a sign that says "cash price" (OMG what BS). You're supposed to look at the pump". "I didn't look on the pump, I looked at your sign." "Then that's your fault" they told me. Oooh, it's the customers fault.... Illegal, misleading gas price signage, plus employees with rude, obnoxious attitudes. They obviously have this argument with customers on a regular basis. Just like those hole-in-the-wall dive bars that exceed your expectations, Athena is so much better than its gas station location would lead you to believe. It's definitely a unique experience. The food is really good, and the serving sizes are huge, especially for the price. I had the beef/lamb gyro, which was very tasty. It came with a salad and pita and hummus. This was my first time at this location(3-30-13). We ordered the Athena's Dinner Special for 2 to go. It consisted of (Gyros, Chicken Shawarma,Beef and Lamb Shawarma, Hummus, Grecian dip, two kibby, two meat grape leaves and two feta salads). Yes it is located inside of a Citgo gas station. Don't let this stop you from trying this hidden gem. For under $20 dollars I really can't complain. The amount of food we got for 2 was more then enough. (Still have leftovers) The, Chicken Shawarma was ridiculously good. I could have eaten just that and would've been happy. The rest of the items were really good also. My only complaint is that the flat bread they provided was a little chewy. No problem I had some really good flat bread at home. Bottom line I will most definitely try this place again. read more

If you order a gyro sandwich, it comes with a salad and hummus. It will literally feed a person for 3 meals. Ask for an extra pita to make more gyros. I've also had the combo plate entree and it fed me for a few meals as well. If you get an order of hummus or another appetizer with the combo plate, it'll feed 3 people. Love this place!!!! I've been regularly ordering at this place since I moved to Lafayette over a year ago. I always get the chicken shawarma plate and it's so good. You get a salad, hummus, flatbread, rice, and grilled chicken that is shaved off the vertical rotisserie. The flavor is so good and can't stop eating it. Too bad it's not so cheap anymore since they've increased the dinner plates to $8.50, but I still come and order it anyway. Don't let the facade deter you since it's inside a gas station.
