this studio is small, but every thing is great. (Teachers, ex*) I won't go in detail, but this is a great studio to join.

The previous comment made by Robbie L is very misleading. 2 of the owners without dance background do not get involved in day-to-day training. They simply provide financial backup. Michelle Coomer is a former Houston Ballet demi-soloist. She danced for HB for 9 years - not simply "few years". Since then, she had taught all over Houston including at Divine Dance Academy for 5 years - an establishment that the author gave a 5-star rating to. Chris Coomer is a first soloist with Houston Ballet, the 2nd highest level in a ballet company. He is very involved in the studio and teaches more than 1 day a week. The "high school" instructor does not teach ballet. The only class she teaches is drill team prep and in my opinion, she is well qualified for that as she was the captain of PHS drill team. While Coomer does not offer make-up classes for holidays, they also do not charge for it. Something that I don't experience with other studios in the area. My daughter has the aspiration of dancing for Houston Ballet, and I trust Coomer Ballet will help her achieve that.

I hope to be able to help another family make a more informed decision than we were able to. Their website SOUNDS impressive stating "classes are taught by current & former Houston Ballet dancers". What we found, however, is that training is substandard at best. VERY disappointed that the level of dance is not nearly as high as what we've experienced at other Pearland dance studios. After enrolling and noticing it was not what we expected, I researched the owners. Two of the 4 stated owners have ZERO dance experience or knowledge?! I could only find a background in construction and not even BASIC dance knowledge? The other 2 owners do have ballet experience. One is a retired ballerina who danced for a few years at Houston Ballet some time ago. The other still dances at HB and personally teaches class at the studio one day a week. They have occasional guest dancers from Houston Ballet teach classes. What we noticed though is that simply because one can dance, does not necessarily translate to them being able to teach. Some of the Conservatories instructors have never danced nor taught professionally and use to teach at other local dance studios. Which in of itself is not a bad thing, but we found that their level of instruction was not especially advanced as is touted on the Conservatoire's website. One instructor is a high school student?! We were looking for something more than simply another average local dance studio. Hoping for a high quality program capable of teaching at a professional level. Paid much higher tuition than at other studios THINKING we would be getting what we paid for. We were wrong. Especially surprised that for a ballet Conservatory, they do not teach classical ballet? Their ballet has more of a contemporary twist. We found they have nothing in place to nurture future artist? Something else you expect from an establishment that "toots their own horn" as being among the "greatest of the great" (the owners have stated this?!?!) While they know many dancers who work for Houston Ballet, there are no apparent internal connections to get their own Conservatoire's dancers a "foot in the door" to the professional dance world. (Nor are Coomer Ballet's dancers trained high enough to compete for professional slots) We experienced their main objective to be how much $$ they can generate for the studio, rather than developing dancers to a high level. NOT realizing if a school prioritized training, money would naturally flow to the studio because they would develop a solid reputation. As a consumer, our family felt gouged for every little thing. You have to pay rent to utilize an empty dance room between classes if you want to practice (most places are happy to have their dancers practice because it only makes them better-thus makes the studio look better). They don't allow holiday make-ups but charge full monthly tuition(again, most studios want their dancers to make-up classes because the more training they have the better the studio looks!). Won't add adequate upper level classes (stated it's not profitable!) $35 for a simple T-shirt with their company logo (free advertising for them)! Rather than complementary coffee like many business offer patrons- they charge $2 a cup! Several such customer service issues told us they are not as interested in training students as they are extorting $$ from parents. While all businesses need to make a profit, the way to generate revenue is by building relationships with families (not making them feel taken advantage of), offering advanced training & opportunities for growth. Their construction experience blinds them from nurturing artist's abilities. We found Coomer Conservatory to be just another dance studio with average training, a once a year recital, an option to compete in local competitions, and no where to go once you outgrow their limited program. We were looking for a place that turns out professional dancers but that's not even close to what we found. They are very over-priced for what they have to offer. I don't believe they know how to train advanced levels. We've since moved to another studio, receiving FAR superior training with much friendlier service & more opportunities. We felt like "a paycheck" to Coomer Ballet, without receiving what we were paying for. If you are looking for a local studio close to home, don't mind paying more than charged at other AVERAGE studios, and do not necessarily care if they have anything special to offer, you may have a better experience than us. Some families simply want recreational dance for fun. My dancer has professional aspirations. After giving Coomer Ballet Conservatory a solid try, we've determined it does not provide the professional level training needed (that the conservatory claims to offer), nor any avenues for entering the professional dance world.

Don't lose heart, parents, this journey requires you to let go and let the teachers do their job. The dynamic of the class varies, but the teachers are consistent. My initial impression was good because they have a lot of good morals and they are actually teaching the little girls good technique. However, after a few months, I started to notice that there was a lot of distraction happening, especially in the little girls class. The instructors focus was to try and convince even younger little girls maybe two years old and younger to try and come in to take the class. The instructors attention to the girls sitting on the floor with their parents Was more than 50% of the class this really distracted my child. I had my in-laws and my husband also take my daughter when I could not and they did not have any nice things to say about the class. They mentioned that expectation was way too strict for little girls And my husband did not like the atmosphere that was set by the owners-- he said that they were not friendly toward him at all as a first time parent parent taking his child. As a dancer, myself with a degree, I also understand that temperature is important in the studio, but in the summer months it was way too hot almost 80°. I don't think this is an appropriate temperature. I don't think they carry themselves in a nurturing and comforting way. We have found the climate to be very militant as opposed to relational. They are diplomatic and do nice things for the community, but not enough to keep us here. We will not return to take class.

I always like to acknowledge businesses who offer a good experience, so here it is written anew: Two of my children attended Divine Dance a few years back. The owner was very pleasant and accommodating to families. She offered flexibility if work or other circumstances required a change to the kid's dance schedule. With my wife working in Houston, I was often the one bringing them to dance at the end of our local school day. If I had a meeting or other obligation, the business would let them attend a different class that week rather than miss all together. I've never forgotten how they went above & beyond to accommodate busy families juggling to get every one where they needed to be. We were quiet pleased with the classes and pricing. They have a 5 1/2 hr. family tuition cap which makes it possible to train in multiple genres without "breaking the bank". Less costly than other studios, but still good instruction. This allowed my kids & other families with multiple children to afford training. The studio exhibited a true love of sharing the art of dance with as many students as possible. My son danced there and I always appreciated them making him feel included by assigning masculine chorography specifically for him. Being a predominately female art form, he was the only boy in his class and the teachers worked with him well. We found the instructors to be kind, nurturing, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere friendly and welcoming! There was a cohesive, supportive feeling amongst patrons. Over all, we have positive memories of our time & money well spent at Divine Dance.

Fairly decent price compared to the other Dance Schools in Pearland. Ms. Lauren, the instructor, was great. For the class to vary in age from 2 to 7 at various levels of skill, she was knowledgeable, understanding, and very kind. The owner, Mrs. Krystal was also very kind and helpful. The only reason I felt the need for 4 stars is due to my lack of knowledge about the competitors. I don't know what other Dance Schools in the area are doing, Divine is good. I can't wait for fall dance for my daughter.
