Whether you are looking for recreational classes or a pre-professional dance program, this studio has it all. The teachers put their heart into the development of each and every child. Don't lose heart, parents, this journey requires you to let go and let the teachers do their job. The dynamic of the class varies, but the teachers are consistent. My initial impression was good because they have a lot of good morals and they are actually teaching the little girls good technique. However, after a few months, I started to notice that there was a lot of distraction happening, especially in the little girls class. The instructors focus was to try and convince even younger little girls maybe two years old and younger to try and come in to take the class. The instructors attention to the girls sitting on the floor with their parents Was more than 50% of the class this really distracted my child. I had my in-laws and my husband also take my daughter when I could not and they did not have any nice things to say about the class. They mentioned that expectation was way too strict for little girls And my husband did not like the atmosphere that was set by the owners-- he said that they were not friendly toward him at all as a first time parent parent taking his child. As a dancer, myself with a degree, I also understand that temperature is important in the studio, but in the summer months it was way too hot almost 80°. I don't think this is an appropriate temperature. I don't think they carry themselves in a nurturing and comforting way. We have found the climate to be very militant as opposed to relational. They are diplomatic and do nice things for the community, but not enough to keep us here. We will not return to take class.

No, they don't have multiple classes running every hour of the day in multiple studios. But Met Dance has been around for a long time (they're celebrating their 30th anniversary this year) and it is obvious that they are an integral part of Houston's dance heritage. I have never taken a class here where I felt judged by my skill, my body, my outfit, or anything else. All of the instructors I have taken class with (mainly the ballet instructors) are amazing and each have their own unique strengths, so you really cannot go wrong with any or all of them. Roberta is an efficient instructor who runs a solid class; Alisa is great for beginners as she is thorough with breaking down steps; Michelle is kind and encouraging; Dominique is lovely and gives the BEST grand allegro combinations; Pattie is an absolute queen and strikes a great balance between perfecting your technique while also developing you're a artistry. Michelle and Pattie also run pointe classes for adults who are interested in getting on pointe, and all of the instructors I've taken class with are agreeable to me doing barre en pointe since the pointe classes don't fit in my schedule. Most of them are beg or beg/int classes, but the instructors trust you to modify as needed. Last but not least, the community at Met is incredible. The instructors remember your name, your story, and welcome you warmly every time. I'm glad to have found this dance family in Houston :)

The only thing I would change is the amount of poles they have for your party. I had a party of 10 and I think there were only 4 or 5 poles in the room so we had to keep rotating people on the pole. I also like they they offer a variety of classes and events.

I hate that I have to start the week off with a post of this nature, but I just want everyone in…read morethe Houston dance community to be aware of unprofessional, inconsiderate people practicing bad business in our city. This is even worse for me to have to do because of the importance of supporting local and black-owned businesses, but this one, in particular, is no longer deserving of that, and quite frankly, hasn't been for a while. Therefore, I encourage everyone to take their money, time, and talents elsewhere as we have many other amazing options in this city. I recently did some work for Courtney White of B.U. for the Arts for which I was promised compensation. However, on the day that I was told I would receive said compensation Courtney completely ignored all of my attempts to contact him, and he even took it a step further and proceeded to block me on all social media platforms as if I was the one causing the issue. If you know Courtney then you also know how he loves to preach about supporting other artists, but when the tables are turned, it's not reciprocated by him. I honestly am still in shock that situations like this can and still exist within a community like ours where so many of us know and/or work consistently with each other. Courtney, I have to say, it's very bold of you, and it tells me a lot about what you think of yourself and your business (especially since this isn't your first rodeo with compensation issues). It really disappoints me to watch someone like you who is living one of my long-term goals of owning a studio treat it so carelessly. Although you blocked me on social media, I'm sure you'll see this message at some point considering how many mutual contacts we have. I hope that it causes you to do some reflecting and make some changes in your life, both personal and business. Lastly, I want you to know that you had no contribution in making me who I am, and you definitely play no part in breaking me. Carry on.

She choreographed the dance for us based on what we wanted, and it felt awesome to have someone who could make this dance into something we wanted.
