My daughter LOVES coming to dance! The first few times we came here, she wasn't all too thrilled,…read morebut I think this was because it was a completely new and different experience for her. We started her off trying out a class, which was $15. After the class, if we decided to enroll her for other classes (which we did), they would deduct the $15 from the monthly price. We were able to snag the promotion they had at the time; buy 2 months, get the 3rd for free. Needless to say, we come to HDF four times a week because my daughter loves it so much. She not only attends one class, but THREE different classes! Her favorite is Hip-Hop, which she excels in. The teachers for each class are superb; they are patient and very helpful to the students. It's also nice that you are able to view your child(ren) while in the lobby. There are multiple cameras throughout the studio that allow you to watch your child on a TV screen in the lobby. HDF also has classes for adults as well. While I have not attended any of the classes, I can tell you they are well attended as the lobby begins to fill up right before they commence. I've heard that HDF also has dance socials as well, but I have not attended.....yet.

All I would get back is a vague text message. I drove all the way from league city because I really wanted my daughter to try salsa class. Thinking to my self well, I can just register her when we get there. I get there, and they tell me she needs a mask, but they wouldn't provide her with one .. if it's a requirement, then they should provide it . The guy at the front desk was rude and would even suggest where I could get a mask to purchase one. Nothing seems to me like they didn't want to work.

You can learn and then have fun showing off what you learned. They have rooms dedicated to bachata, zouk, and the largest dance floor is for salsa. Each room has excellent music, some seating, mirrors and a great floor. You can tell they take pride in the place. The instructors are super nice and will show you the basics if you miss the lesson or need a refresher. In the salsa room you can buy water, Gatorade, pop, etc. It's BYOB right now but I didn't notice a lot of alcohol drinking, people were really there to dance. It was fun popping in to each room and dancing with different partners. As a female, it can be frustrating when a guy leaches on to you all night but the men here did not do that. Thwy respectfully asked for a dance and thanked me after each dance. If you happen to get a sticky guy, at least you can escape into one of the other rooms to get away. Somewhere between 11:30 and midnight various dance teams performed the different styles of dance. What an awesome deal. For $15 you can get a dance lesson, dance to excellent music on professional dance floors, and get a highly entertaining show. They also offer a series of dance lessons for various levels so you can take classes and get to know more dancers. I didn't take any photos because I was too busy dancing. I took video of the performances but can't upload videos to Yelp. I am so glad I found this place!

Doesn't look like much when you drive past - okay, I'm using the canned Yelp message there - and,…read moreif you arrive at night, it's likely that you'll drive right past it. The Palladium is located on a one-way freeway frontage road, so you can't make a U-turn to get there if you pass it up. But it's not one to avoid. The Palladium is not a franchise of a nationwide company named after Arthur Murray or Fred Astaire. It's a local concern, and doesn't offer as much as the other two studios I listed. I've gone to their Latin events, and here's what it looks like: They have in-house instructors, and also bring in people from outside Houston. (I wrote about California's Kathy Reyes in two prior reviews, I hope she's reading this and makes the trip to Houston some time!) They have classes, and they have dance parties. Both are run well, charging market rates. Lots of parking. One medium-sized dance floor, two smaller studios. The bar sells drinks, both alky and non-alky. Restrooms are deep in the bowels of the building, down the hall to the left. The people who come are a good company, and are fixinta learn to dance better and to have fun. The social dance community of Houston is smaller than in other cities, so there's much overlap from one instructor to another, and it's likely that you'll meet someone there who you danced with somewhere else. I haven't met any snobs yet, but you can't assume that they won't be there. I first went to the Palladium for New Years Eve. I've been several times since then. The experience was similar to others I've been to in other cities. I've had a good time, and never drove home thinking "well, that was a waste of a hundred mile drive one-way." Beaumont simply has nothing like The Palladium, likely because few people in the Coonie Triangle are interested in ballroom or Latin dancing. I encourage you to find a class or party and stop on by.

Not to start off a review by venting, but a little personal touch on why I'm so upset right now…read moremight go a long way in understanding why this is a one star review. I have personally been going through quite a bit lately that has led me to purposefully drag myself out of my apartment and channel my life frustrations into healthy activities and ventures. Between travel, trying to find a cat to adopt, and other every day oddities, I decided that I wanted to get back into an old hobby of mine: dancing. What could go wrong, right? I took ballet at a young age and was encouraged to stop, as I looked like a "flat piece of cardboard flapping in the breeze." When I got older, I dabbled in dance in high school, and went on to become a professional mascot for some years. Dancing isn't something that I find hard, and many routines, I am able to easily memorize, and have a lot of fun with. But, you know, I haven't learned an actual serious routine in human-form in nearly 7 years. Relevant. Today, I ventured to SoReal after being advised by Yelp that this would be a great place for "beginners" to come and "learn how to dance." Let me advise you: there was no learning HOW to dance, rather... after 10 minutes of the class, at least 10 eight-counts were shoved down my throat and I realized, I am being taught A dance. One must learn to dance before being taught an actual dance. So, you know, I took my cardboard-flapping body and left the studio mid-class. This wouldn't have happened if SoReal did a few items off the basic customer service checklist. First of all, when I arrived at 4:30 pm for a 5:00 pm class (early to ask questions, get info, etc.) the door was locked and a very bland young man answered the door. He let me in, and was not welcoming or cheerful or anything at all. I was obviously uneasy and frankly, a little shy, to be out doing something so bold after having spent the last few months hiding under a Calvin Klein comforter, downing margarita wine, while binge watching Grey's Anatomy. Despite my personal issues, kindness is a universal language that this man was obviously not fluent in. He did nothing to sell the studio or class to me, not phased whether I stayed or went. He did assure me that anyone attending this class would likely be their first class, and that you don't need any prior knowledge of dancing to attend. So, I went with it. There were about 10 people in my class, none of whom were very friendly. They stayed mostly to themselves during the warm up and stretching, which was fine by me. But the instructor was a very heavy-set young lady who seemed to be gasping for air after the set of stretches. Then, she played us a clip of the song we'd be learning the choreography to, and within seconds, she was shouting, "And then you do this! This! And this!" First of all, have you ever heard of an 8-count? Do you know how to break it down for us "beginners?" And when you picked on the little Asian guy in the class for adding his own style to a move, did you mean to insult him? I had all these questions streaming through my head as the instructor sped up the pace on a choreography that was FAR from beginner. We didn't practice with music through any of this. I finally gave up about 20 minutes in the class. I wasn't enjoying myself. It wasn't a beginner choreography (or even a good choreography at that). No one was at the front desk when I left, so I was unable to get a refund on my lousy $12. Basically, I left here feeling like I paid $12 to feel even more badly about myself. Thanks SoReal for keepin' it real.

The highlight of the summer was having the opportunity to learn from and dance with Lauren Anderson! I ended up taking dance at UH for the fall semester, so unfortunately I have not been back to dance here. The owner and founder, Sherese Campbell, taught the ballet class we were in. She's inspiring and really makes you want to dance better. The students are awesome, some of them are City Dance Company dancers and they are just as inspiring. Our summer intensive class ranged from teenagers to adults in their 30's-40's. The summer intensive classes are cool because you do (for example) ballet one week and hip-hop another week (for the first 1.5 hours) and then like yoga or tap for the second 1.5 hours. Intensive classes are usually from 9 AM - 3 PM, but I only went from 9 AM - noon and it was $150/week vs. $250/week. Currently don't have time/money to take intensive classes again, but would love to go back soon. It's pretty convenient if you live near Rice/ West U. If you are unsure about anything or have reservations, Sherese is always willing to help and encourage you!
