a shelf full of liquor bottles

This is a one-man distillery in an out-of-the-way industrial area. It's a labor of love and worth a visit. The owner greeted us and showed us around his small distillery space. He then took us in his office, where we sampled all of his liquors. I am partial to gin, and the Euphrosine 9 was quite good. The owner adds bay leaves to the mix, which gives an interesting savoriness. The red absinthe was new to me and also very good. The addition of hibiscus mellows the strong wormwood/anise taste with some sweetness. The green absinthe, made with the owner's homegrown wormwood, has a strong, pleasant taste.

Sorry but this shot is almost gone.

We…read morehad stumbled upon this distillery that has been open since 2016 and survived Covid, so you know it must be worth a stop in! Unfortunately our plan was to just stop in for drinks but the dinner menu looked so good with a speciality menu with quail and a dip with avocado and local fish! As we were just stopping in for drinks, we just had an appetizer: at first we were unsure about the composition of the appetizer: avocado, crab and mango....but one we received it, we were impressed. The dip was solid! As for drinks: the distillery offerings were solid! I'm a fan of bees knee and that made me an epic one. And for those who want to get their pour on for a mere 20 dollars you can do unlimited drinks from a select list that looked solid! The service was solid too! I think the excellent service that we received from Sam and perhaps the Manager ( sorry didn't catch his name) kept us there longer enjoying our time! Sam has been there for four year and very passionate about the business: I love seeing an employee at establishment that is fully engage! The ambiance is nice too: vast indoor space! Very clean! With an open area to the kettles! Plus a nice patio for nice days! Plus they have a big party area too if you are looking for an event space. Thanks for a great first visit: we look forward to digging in and trying some of your food next time!

My mom and I enjoy distillery tours so I checked out Groupon to see if they had anything new, which…read moreis how I discovered this little gem. I paid for the tour in advance and ended up adding the tasting while we were there. When we arrived, we received a nice big welcome from Brian. He escorted us inside and introduced their resident mixologist Ann, she was quite lovely and makes an excellent cocktail. Brian mentioned that he was waiting for a few more people to arrive, so mom and I ordered something off the menu. I selected the Gallagher, which consisted of fresh watermelon, cucumber, lime and your choice of their Crescent Vodka, 3rd Ward Gin, or Tresillo Rum. I chose the 3rd Ward Gin. The cocktail was very tasty and refreshing. Mom chose the Freudian Slip - Crescent Vodka, pear, honey, lemon, and basil. It was also incredibly good and both drinks were beautifully presented. I loved the décor of the tasting room. It was pretty with a relaxing atmosphere. While we waited, we had a nice conversation with Brian & Ann. I told Brian that I came to NOLA so I could watch the fireworks on the Mississippi and was sad when I found out that they had been canceled. Brian said, "Well, I just heard today that the show is back on because Will Smith paid for it to happen." Apparently Will Smith was in New Orleans filming a movie (Emancipation) and when he found out the city canceled the fireworks show due to lack of funding he stepped up and paid for it. I was so excited when I found out. I've always been a fan of Will's work but now even more so since he made my bucket list happen. When the other guests arrived, we were given a welcome cocktail to take with us on the tour. It consisted of the Tresillo Rum, some spices, coconut cream, and soda water. It was yummy. I could have drunk about 5 of them. Brian was an excellent tour guide - very entertaining and informative. Cajun Spirits is a family-owned business that was founded in 2010 by Gus Hank. Their spirits are crafted in custom copper stills and made with locally sourced ingredients including Louisiana sugarcane. After the tour it was time for the tasting. In front of us were 3 snifters: one with Crescent Vodka, another with 3rd Ward Gin, and the last with Tresillo Rum. There was also a small carafe of water and a dropper. Brian instructed us to take a sip of the vodka. Then add a drop of water with the dropper and sip again to taste the difference. The water helps to open the flavor profile. (They filter their water on the premises.) When the tasting was over it was time for the grand finale - a complimentary cocktail called NOLA Rose. (Which happens to be my mom's nickname) It was delicious! Ann really is an amazing mixologist. I'm so happy I found this place. I definitely recommend the tour & tasting and also come for the cocktails, which are a steal at $8. They also have food trucks and live music on certain nights so visit their webpage for a schedule of events.

You will not believe what goes on behind their door until you take a tour in their distillery. This is local New Orleans flavor at their finest! We booked our tour through Groupon (best deal ever)! Gus aka Joey developed his passion abre 10 years ago to put New Orleans on the radar for distilleries. His family, his wife and brother Edward were very nice and down to earth! I never though I would like sampling those Cajun spirits, but they were awesome! You will be so surprised what aromas and flavors you can taste! I have toured many distilleries and by far I have enjoy this tour so much! Not only because it's local but you can tell the family are proud of their product. I had no idea that several…read morebrands I've tried before are actually connected to Sazerac Company, which was a really interesting surprise. One of the highlights for me was a modern twist on the classic Sazerac--an elderberry and amaro version that was complex, unique, and unexpected. I also tried a coffee-inspired Sazerac that was incredibly smooth, with rich espresso notes that balanced perfectly with the bold flavors of the original. It was so good it honestly made me forget about Patrón XO Cafe. Each floor includes a tasting sample along with a recipe card, which was such a nice touch and makes it easy to recreate the drinks at home. The space is very well set up, with elevators and bathrooms on every floor, and you can even see parts of the distillery during the experience. Overall, it's an engaging, well-organized tour that's both informative and fun. Definitely worth it if you're interested in cocktails or want to learn more about spirits.

In hindsight, this absolutely deserved a spot on our itinerary. It's a unique combination of a liquor shop, museum, and immersive experience, where they walk you through the history of some of the iconic drinks that originated in New Orleans. The entire experience from the visuals to the storytelling to the tastings comes together beautifully. I was genuinely amazed that something this well done is offered for free. After the tour, we wanted to pick up a few bottles, but unfortunately they were out of what we were looking for. We even came back the next day, but it was still out of stock, which was a bit of a letdown. The staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to answer all our questions. Overall, this is a must-do experience if you're in the area.
