Just attended Parkville Senior Center's 40th Anniversary Celebration!…read more It started great - no snow! Having the celebration in gym was wonderful with beautifully decorated long tables and wide aisles. The fresh flower arrangements were perfect height to not interfere with conversations, provided elegance to tables and refreshing scent. The shape and arrangement of the tables made moving about easy, provided elbow room; as well as, ability to converse with old and new family and friends on sides, across table and at table behind. DJ provided perfect theme music at sound level to permit conversations. Having food in separate area was a bonus. It kept lines at a minimum in celebration area. Although some have difficulty walking or holding plates steady; it had been addressed. Family, friends and runners gathered and returned to celebration area with food and drinks for those needing help. The trays were a Godsend. They kept lines shorter, required fewer trips, food stayed hot and beverages cold when gathered necessities for others at table and themselves. Food was delicious! Had been thinking shrimp, shrimp, shrimp until approached building and whiffed succulent aroma of pit beef...my first stop! So good! Next time have to remember to go easy on horseradish, having cleaned out my sinuses. MmmmmmmmmGood! Potato salad, BBQ mixed in with my mac & cheese, shrimp creole, pork & sauerkraut and a cup of shrimp soup. Then bowl of steamed shrimp and plate of warm breaded shrimp as my dessert...topped by spicy cocktail sauce. I do love horseradish! It was all done by Fantastic Committee, Staff and Volunteers. Thank them for their dedication, hard work, thoughtfulness and kindness by providing a memorable 40th Anniversary Celebration.

Recently took their 1 day Screen Painting Class- Really great class...I CAN DO IT!…read moreSomewhat anxious going into class, had no clue as to "artistic merit" of screen I would create. Everything I needed was provided: screen, brushes, paints, supplies and confidence building. My anxiety began melting away as learned how to hold brush, control amount of paint and apply to screen. The most overheard phrase around the room was, "Oh, I like your.... (clouds, stream, trees, cottage, bushes, swan)". As neighbors admired others' work, then looked back at their own, when similar comments directed to them. With 16 in class, while theme was same there were no identical screens...and they ALL looked great. My screen looked even better when I arrived home and leaned it against outside of my window as admired from yard then looked through it from the inside of home. It really was fun and more importantly it gave me confidence that it is something I could do. Granted, my talent is a far cry from the beautiful screens instructor had brought to class: Patterson Park Pagoda, boy blowing soap bubbles. As with anything, they more I try, practice and do; the potential is there to develop additional skills and talent. Hum, Grandma/pa Moses of screen painting! It is great to have opportunity to learn new skills and meet fun people.

This is a pretty amazing center for seniors that occupies a nice space in the Lakeview Plaza…read moreshopping center. The staff here work hard in keeping this center well run. They offer many exercise classes covering a wide variety of style for all fitness levels. Many come here to play cards and keep their minds active as well as lunching with friends. The center also offers bus trips for able seniors.
