    Previous guest's dirty sock

I really hesitated to write this review, because the owners of this cabin seem like nice people and I thought maybe they were just having a hard time due to COVID or something. But after reading the way other guests were treated, and seeing how long the cottage has been in this shape, I decided to post mine. This place is a mess; such a mess that I'd truly hate for anyone to spend money to stay here. Outside: the decks are dirty with severely chipped paint and rotting wood. The deck furniture is covered in leaves, dirt, and spiderwebs. Another guest said the outside spaces are unusable, and that is accurate. They're so gross we couldn't use them unless we deep cleaned them first. The wood enclosure around the hot tub is falling apart, and the hot tub water looked too filthy to get in it. We didn't even attempt it. The entire outside of the cottage is in disrepair. All of the walkways are overgrown with weeds, including a lot of poison ivy. The dock has 2 broken boards that someone is eventually going to fall through, and another board cracked loudly when I stepped on it. Inside: The carpet is stained and torn throughout. The entire cottage smells very strongly like mold and sweat. All of the interior doors stick from humidity. The doorknob on the door from the main living room to the sunroom jams so badly that it takes multiple attempts to open it every time you walk through. The furniture is completely worn out (one couch is so broken down you sink almost to the floor). The central air wasn't working when we arrived and it was 90 degrees outside, so we had to contact the owners on our first day to have window air conditioners put in. They brought in an HVAC company our second day who supposedly fixed the problem, but after they left, the central air still didn't get the inside of the cottage below 78 degrees, so if they say it was recently fixed...it wasn't. We brought our 2 small dogs with us and specifically asked Dave to call us before allowing anyone in the cottage so we could come back and manage the dogs if we were out and about. They agreed to call us when the HVAC people were on the way. We got back from breakfast on the second morning and found the HVAC company finishing up, and Dave told us he was the "only one" who had gone inside the house while we were gone. We ended up having to run the central air when we wanted to watch the (only) good TV in the basement, then running the window air conditioners when we were upstairs. The banister leading to the basement is loose and wobbling. There was a sock from another guest stuck in the ivy draped over the basement railing. There are small black ants that got into some packaged food we had on the counter in the kitchen and we had to throw it away. I just unpacked some totally sealed food we brought home and it was crawling with ants, so I brought ants home with me. The shower puts out the weakest trickle of water I've ever seen, and it's well water that reeks of iron. The smell is nauseating and clings to your skin and hair, so you don't feel clean after showering. The shower curtain is covered in a thick, rusty film and looks like it hasn't been changed in months. After you make a reservation, the owners ask you to leave the cottage exactly as you found it, and they make it clear that it isn't professionally cleaned between guests. They include a threat of charging your credit card with cleaning fees after the fact if the cottage is not adequately cleaned when you leave. I'm sorry, but I refuse to clean a rented cottage beyond picking up after myself, especially when it wasn't cleaned prior to my arrival. There are cobwebs and dust everywhere. That is ridiculous. The property is severely neglected. I regret spending money to stay here and our vacation pretty much sucked because we couldn't spend time outside and the inside of the cottage is so gross, dark, and smelly. I wanted to go home almost immediately, and we ended up leaving a day early. We didn't even attempt to ask for a refund based on the reviews from previous guests. DON'T STAY HERE.

Took our first family vacation here worst idea ever, cabins stink and are out dated, the staff helps them selves into your rental as they please. We left at 930ish in the morning to go get stuff from walmart 7 miles up the road, got a text at 10am that they were in our room, mind you we havent cleaned up from breakfast or checked out which is at 11am .She began to text me about how I needed to be a parent and constantly harrassed me to the point my family didnt feel comfortable to come back . We left the rest of our belongings and headed home , Sally harrassed me in text messages for a hour. I wouldnt recommend there cabins unless you wanna deal with rude service

At The Lake cabin/cottage is a clean, cozy and relaxing place to stay. This is our second time here, and I'm already planning my next stay. This is truly a place to forgot everyday life and stresses. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen and regular sized refrigerator. One of the bed rooms overlooks Lake Logan. It's a stunning view to see the sun rise from your bed in the morning. The hot tub is clean, maybe a bit on the older side, but it was working and maintained. The cabin keeper is extremely friendly, accommodating and welcoming! I can't say enough about that place.

This is our second visit to Lake Logan Cottages, the first being a year ago when we stayed at a stones throw for our anniversary. We loved it, sleeping accommodations were wonderful and it was very close to restaurants and hiking locations. We recently stayed at old log on the lake and we loved it! The cabin is very hidden and quiet, sitting on a fenced in lakefront with plenty of room for outdoor activities. I have read some pretty negative reviews regarding these cabins and to be honest, we have had nothing but wonderful experiences while staying and when communicating with the owner, Sally! We come to hike and we bring our dogs and we do not expect a 5 star hotel, after all, this is Hocking Hills. The cleanliness has been just fine, keep in mind most of the cabins in this area are older and decorated to suit. We have stayed in Hocking Hills many times, as we also got married down here and Lake Logan Cottages have by far been our favorite stay and location! Thanks Sally!! Recommendations: Lake Logan Marina--Rental for kayaks and pontoon boats--wonderful! Millstone BBQ restaurant

Back of property. Steep hill was very unsafe for children.

I am extremely disappointed in the quality of accommodations that we encountered at A Stone's Throw. The smell inside was horrible (musty/moldy) as was the condition of the shower. There were loose pretzels in a kitchen drawer, the plates were dripping wet when I removed one from the cabinet, the furniture was dirty and ripped, sheets had holes in them, there were rugs everywhere to cover a large quantity of stained carpets, front door wouldn't release the key when inserted without a great deal of struggling , steps were treacherous going into the "porch bedroom" (child fell off the edge as there's no railing), bedpan found in a cabinet in the bathroom, cinder blocks littered the back yard, and the steep hill was very treacherous for our children (3 falls). We were not expecting the Hilton, but at the price point we paid we were expecting clean, safe conditions. Additionally, I find it upsetting that the owners encourage folks to pay with cash by offering a 10% savings. Credit card companies do not charge a fee greater than 2-3%. Credit cards, Square, and PayPal all offer buyer protections that would not benefit the poor and sad scam on unsuspecting travelers. Our family had to cut our trip short because of the poor conditions at this property. We spent several hundred additional dollars to move to a different location that was great. The unethical practices actually cost us a day of our trip, and Sally didn't even offer as much as an apology. She did not offer to refund us for the nights we did not utilize the space (or any portion for that matter), she was rude, and she hung up on me. The photos shown online are clearly very outdated or taken by a photographer with great editing skills. Sally and Dave should take pride in their business. If cleaning and care taking is too much for them to do, pay someone who can do it for them. But above all, don't misrepresent your accommodations online, take hundreds of dollars from people, and leave them stuck with unfit conditions. I really don't know how they sleep at night. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Absolutely filthy! Well water smells like rotten eggs which usually means bacteria. Water damage obvious in ceiling and walls. Holes in flooring and paneling peeling. Furniture is old ripped and dusty. Bed sheets not washed...could tell due to the snot on the pillow case. Everything outside covered in pine needles. Huge gaps between floor and walk-in bathroom. Dust and pet hair everywhere! Spiders and cobwebs everywhere! Furniture in yard is dirty and has no cushioning. No privacy at all you have neighbors all around who can stare directly at you on the deck. Only gave them one start because you have to give at least one. No outside lighting except small dim strand of light going down railing of steep steps. Sponges for washing dishes are old and stink...dishes are crusty. AC only stays cold at night. No adequate window covering. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Don't stay here.

    Beautiful cabin on Lake Logan

We stayed at cabin on lake and it was beautiful. A little hard to find but that also made it very private for our stay. Fenced yard for our little furbaby. Owners could not have been nicer and were very helpful with directions and tips on the area. We would certainly recommend.

    Mouse droppings with the dishes

We have rented many cabins and cottages in the Hocking Hills area and the "Top of the Hill" Cottage at Lake Logan Cottages was far under the standards we have come to expect. The cottage looked fine from outside. We unloaded the car and began putting food away when we found a dead mouse in the kitchen drawer. It had found a trap, obviously several days before we arrived, as it smelled horrible. After opening a drawer and finding that, I was nervous about opening drawers for the remainder of our stay. Then seeing the mouse droppings on the shelves with the silverware and dishes, we decided to wash the ones we would use and store them away from the cabinets. Okay, it's the country and there may be mice. Decided to deal with that, and get over it. We cooked dinner and decided to relax, start a fire and watch a movie. The fire place had been used a lot, but not cleaned out. The ashes were literally piled up to the grate. I carried 4 buckets of ashes outside and dumped them in the woods. Looked around for wood, and saw none, so I called Sally (the owner) she said we might be able to buy some at a gas station or something, bus she wasn't sure where. I drove down to Walmart and bought a couple bundles of wood. The flue in the fireplace was hanging down to where it was visible, so I didn't have to worry about opening it. We did watch a movie, and enjoy the fire. We didn't enjoy the hot tub, as it was covered in lime scale and had stuff floating in it. Not to mention the control panel was un-readable and we couldn't get the heat to go above 89. If we had figured it out, I doubt we would have gotten in, because it was just dirty. There is a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, but the jets were in desperate need of being cleaned. They were orange looking. So, we didn't use that either. As a matter of fact, since there were only two hand towels and four wash cloths in the cottage, we kept our bathing to a minimum. The hand towel that was in the half bath had been used and was dirty. The toilet in the half bath must have a slow leak, because you can hear the water kick on and run for a few minutes about every half hour. There is a large leak spot on the living room ceiling by the top of the chimney. It looks as though it has been there a while. We put dry dog food down and a bowl of water for the dog. On returning from a hike, we noticed that the dog food was covered with ants. Literally covered!! As we cleaned it up and tried to sweep the ants up, we looked all over the cottage and couldn't find a dust pan. We made one out of a cardboard box, so we could sweep up the ants and throw them outside. We kept out bags up off the floor to keep the ants and mice out of them. I was nervous about going to the bathroom during the night. Afraid I'd disturb the rodents that obviously live there. Finally, when I saw the amount we were charged for the cottage, it was almost $50 more than the bill we were emailed said we would be charged. I found out that there is a 10% fee because we didn't pay in cash. We made the reservations on-line, not sure how we were expected to secure the cabin without using a credit card. We have paid less for much nicer cabins and cottages in the Hocking Hills area. I guess we have been fortunate because we have never experienced anything like this place before.

Four Seasons is a few minutes outside the town of Logan and maybe 20 minutes from the state park. The cabins are maybe a 10 minute drive from Kroger or 5 minutes from gas stations, downtown Logan, etc. The cabins were pretty easy to find. The 2 cabins are near each other, but still private. The Song Bird has 2 bedrooms with queen size beds, one bathroom, a covered hot tub, deck with charcoal grill and small patio table with 4 chairs, a wood burning fireplace (glorious!), full size fridge, small 4 burner gas stove, and small microwave. Song Bird is furthest back and doesn't offer much of a parking spot. there's a relatively steep hill on one side where you park and a little drop off on the other so not a lot of room to negotiate on the sides of the vehicle. We found it easiest to back into the spot so we didn't have to back down the long driveway which was hard to see because of fallen leaves, etc. The other cabin has a large parking area, which I coveted. The wooded area around the cabins is really pretty, especially during fall when we visited. The rentals are both pet friendly (although, thankfully our cabin did not smell like a dog). The grounds offer a small, picturesque pond with a paddle boat and gazebo, as well as hiking trails and fire pits. There is an orchard as well. There was no cell phone service here for us - we both had Verizon. No WiFi. No phone in the cabin that I saw. Song Bird's bathroom had 4 large towels, washcloths, hand towels and also had shampoo, conditioner and body wash there to use. Decent but small bathroom. The showerhead was a hot mess with water spraying in all the wrong directions. The bathroom has an overhead fan in case you ate chili cheese fries for lunch and don't want to kill the romance in the small cabin. The bedrooms had plenty of pillows. I could have used some extra, heavier blankets but that's because I like to sleep with blankets that weigh about the same as Andre the Giant. Maybe they were stashed somewhere and I didn't see them. The living room was comfortable. Leather couch near the fireplace. We purchased a crate of wood for $5 from Four Seasons and LOVED the wood burning fireplace. Pick up a newspaper or something so you have something to help start the fire. We used one of the Hocking Hills magazines as we had nothing else to use. We brought DVDs (Boardwalk Empire) and made good use of the DVD player there, but they do have satellite tv which was playing classical music when we arrived. There were cups, glasses, wine openers, silverware, plates, etc.in the kitchen. A coffee maker and a decent amount of coffee and powdered creamer left there from other renters. A hot plate, too, I think? A toaster. The only thing in the fridge was ketchup. Some pots and pans and bowls. You''ll be washing whatever you dirty so if you're not a fan of washing dishes bring some paper plates, plastic utensils and drink out of the wine bottle. During our visit the stove didn't work and there was no discount or anything offered. I chose this place partly because it had a stove (many cabins only have a microwave and mini fridge) so we could make breakfasts, etc. so I was bummed we couldn't cook at all. We found out at the last minute so couldn't find another cabin. The driveway to the rental office and to the cabins is a little hilly and bumpy. I kept thinking you'd need 4WD/AWD if you rented on a snowy day in the winter. It would be really cozy and beautiful there in the winter. I looked at a LOT of cabins before choosing Four Seasons and found Four Seasons to be more reasonably priced. The cabin was clean and decently decorated and cozy. Despite the fact that my relationship met its demise in Hocking Hills, I had a nice time at the cabin and would recommend it.

Each cabin is far enough from the others with enough forest between them that you truly feel secluded in your own private site. We absolutely love The Crows Nest and I cannot recommend it enough nor give enough praise to the owners of Springwood due to their attention to detail and the perfect and spotless condition that they keep the cabin in. We've stayed at many cabin rentals throughout Ohio and Springwood Cabins has made us feel the most welcome and relaxed. The moment you walk in, you can feel the love that the owners have put into the cabin. Crows Nest is a two bedroom cabin with a large open living/kitchen area and each bedroom has its own full private bath. The front porch is spacious with four rocking chairs and they've added a brand new covered back deck with a table and plenty of seating and a new hot tub. We spent our breakfast time on the back deck daily. There is also a brand new outdoor grill below. To the left of the cabin is a well maintained fire pit with three sturdy benches, so you don't even need to bring your own camp chairs if you don't want to. Speaking of needs, the cabin is provided with everything you could need, all you have to bring is your food. Seriously. They supply bath towels and wash cloths, hot tub towels, paper towels, extra trash bags, toilet paper, kitchen towels, a fully stocked kitchen of cookware and utensils and plates. The appliances are well kept and clean: coffee maker, microwave, toaster and Keurig (with Keurig cups supplied), even dog bowls for if you bring your pets. And the WiFi is solid as well. When you first walk in, there is soothing music playing and you feel at peace immediately. It is thoughtfully decorated, the kitchen towels are even folded neatly on the stove. In the island counter is a personalized welcome tent card and that little detail made it feel extra special. I am really trying to find something constructive to add but it's difficult because the place is just perfect. If anything, I wish there were some hooks on the bathroom doors to hang my clothes, there is only a towel bar in the bathroom. I eventually want to stay at the Crows Nest in the fall for the changing of leaf color, I can only imagine how beautiful it is. I'd recommend Springwood to anyone who wants to truly get away for some time without sacrificing comfort.

We had no choice but to turn around and go home, completely devastated. We reached out immediately and followed up several times, but it took days to even get a response. By then, they claimed they couldn't refund us because they had already paid the cabin owner -- even though we called the same night the issue happened. That is not the customer's fault; it's a breakdown in how they handle problems. They later offered two free nights as a "good faith" gesture, but they had to be used before the end of the year. It would make for great strolling and B&B's would only lend to the charm of these gentrified neighborhoods. The Harrison House is one of the few bed and breakfast inns within striking distance of downtown and is situated on the very edge of Ohio State's campus in the neighborhood known as Harrison West (hence the name, Harrison House). The 1890's Victorian home has a great location and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been beautifully renovated to include six rooms that range in price from $129 to $169 dollars. All of the guest rooms have a private bath, queen size bed, cable television and wireless Internet service. Breakfast is included in the price and free parking is available on site- which is a bonus given the street parking in this area is hard to come by at times, especially when Ohio State is in session. I have stayed in loads of insanely beautiful B&B's and have developed super high standards when it comes to these types of accommodations. Aside from the Harrison House being privately owned and located in a nifty part of town, there isn't anything particularly special about the place.

Salt Creek Retreats is a 40 acre camping retreat, with only two rentable sites; a cabin and a yurt…read more Recently, my friends and I stayed at the yurt. A Yurt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurt), if you're wondering, is traditionally a Mongolian tent. But the type at Salt Creek is of the more modern North American variety, made with parquet floors and plastic coverings. It has sleeping room for four, with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. There's also a folded up futon underneath the bunk beds if needed. The yurt also has a gas space heater, large kitchen trash can, table, and a cabinet fully stocked with a variety of camping essentials like matches, first aid, baby wipes and instant coffee. Outside, the spacious camp is just as well set up. As you drive up the dirt path to the site, you'll first see solar showers that are usable during the summer, then an outhouse. Ten feet down from that is the main site. On the right side of the road is a hammock, a wood picnic table, the yurt, and then an air chair. On the left, a huge hutch of fire wood, a big steel fire pit, a barbecue, then two more camp tables under a big canopy. Behind the yurt side structures is a thick woods, while behind the fire pit side is a medium-size creek. There is a large supply of pots and pans, hanging spoons and tongs left for the campers, although much of this is rusting pretty badly, unfortunately. The double pointed hot dog skewers were great, however. This is a truly beautiful camp site, well stocked and designed. A few of the cooking implements being in less that useful shape doesn't take away from all the wonderful stuff that is provided, and doesn't impact the peace and pristine nature around you. A wonderful spot to go relax and get away from it all.

The BEST place to camp in the central Ohio area!…read more I've been coming to the yurt every year for about 5 years. Its fantastic because its: 1) Amazingly Private - secluded in beautiful hocking hills with several miles of private trails, a fishing pond, a scenic overlook, and a river to swim in. No pesky state park rules. Phones don't work here. Leave your crackberry at home!! 2) Doggie Friendly - They love it here! 3) Great for Groups - Sleeps up to 6, with room for many many more in tents. Bring all the kids! 4) Easy as Pie - comes fully stocked with dishes and cooking supplies, pillows, chairs, grills, etc. There's a little store in Laurelville (about 15 min drive) if you need anything (like pie!), and there are some houses nearby if you have an emergency. Consider coming here in the winter - the yurt has a heater, and there's a roof over your head. Or in the spring - to hunt for morels and wild ramp. Or in the summer - to go swimming and use the solar shower. Or fall - to sit under a canopy of color. Thanks Kim for keeping up such a wonderful place!

You are just a short drive away from an abundance of gorgeous hiking trails. Being able to enjoy the hot-tub on the porch while being surrounded by forrest sounds and gorgeous views was just the reset we needed. My only true negative was that the mattress was extremely uncomfortable. I do think there are a few minor things that could make this cabin even better. (From a picky convenience point) -the couch is less for lounging and more for sitting up (like a waiting room) a soft ottoman would really improve the ability for couples to cuddle by the fire. -there are no couch side tables to set drinks on -the shower is SMALL (which is to be expected in a tiny cabin) if you added a shower head that can come down it would make it much easier to wash off mud from hiking because maneuvering in that tiny space is nearly impossible. - some sort of shelf/counter space for the bathroom that way if you are staying longer you can keep your necessities stored in there.
