He asked for my mailing address and when I went to look up a NEW address, began to lecture me. I'm grown. Mind your own business. He then fails to complete the task he promised, and does not respond to telephone calls, emails or texts. His phone message says, if I don't call you back, call me again. Who does that? When he did complete my taxes. He had the wrong address. His assistant charged the wrong amount to my credit card, couldn't reverse it, and he wanted to meet me in the side of the road for the refund. He and his staff are A MESS!! This is a duplicate of my Google review... Fantastic tax preparation service. I have been using his services for the last 11 tax years. I initially found his service in a final act of desperation while trying to avoid hiring a tax attorney. I had a tax issue due to a $100,000 mistake by the Department of Defense. They incorrectly assessed a debt against me, then when proved I didn't owe the debt they used a lazy accounting trick to clear it from the system and PAID OFF the debt by paying themselves. However, since it was tracked as paying off a debt I owed, it registered as $100,000 in additional income. I spent years struggling to find someone to help resolve this. Most tax services would not touch such an unusual case. Most recommended a tax attorney. Because it was unresolved, I ended up with a tax lien, and money seized from my accounts. And I was withholding tax filings to avoid returns being seized. Mr Lang was able to resolve this in a matter of a few weeks Including my delinquent filings. He has been my tax preparation service every year since then. His fees for an ordinary filing is very reasonable so reasonable I try to offer him a tip, which he refuses to accept. He is an incredibly experienced and professional accountant. I feel fortunate to have found him, and though he deserves a well earned retirement after decades of working as a tax accountant, I worry he will retire because we will lose one of the best tax preparation services in East Bay. read more

I chose this service because I didn't like my previous tax preparer and when I moved into a new apartment I saw a little green building with a garden just down the street with a big sign on it that said 'tax refunds'. STEER CLEAR!! I provided my well-organized tax information over a month in advance of when taxes were due, yet Mr. Lang failed to file my taxes by the deadline. He said he filed an extension but never provided any documentation. I had to visit his office twice before he provided me a copy of the draft tax documents, which were filled with errors. When I asked questions he got defensive and cut short the appointment. When I emailed him with corrections to my taxes he never responded. When I went to his office for an in person appointment, after taking the morning off work to get this finally settled, he was not there, and his receptionist told me he was... wait for it... unable to complete my taxes! Now it's past the tax deadline, I am out $285, and have to find another way to get my taxes done. Unbelievable. He takes phone calls while you're meeting with him, makes you wait in the lobby even when you have an "appointment", and views questions about your own taxes as a challenge to his authority. Visiting Quentin's office is a bit like stepping back in time. Make an appointment, go in and sit with him. Many old black and white photos up on the walls. He has a great jazz and soul record collection, and LPs are all he plays in the office. This is a second generation Tax Services company, that has been at that location since the 1950's. Professionally, Quentin is extremely knowledgable about Tax issues. This is the second year in a row that I have gone to him to file my taxes, although I now live 40 minutes away and I cross a bridge. I first used Associated Tax Services in 2010. My tax returns had suddenly become complicated due to a mix of employment and self-employment income, and work in two different states. Quentin Lang handled my returns, found substantial, legitimate deductions I did not know about, and offered suggestions for tax planning for the coming years. My returns were also prepared quickly, within a week (even the first year, when I gave him two years at once. Oops!) He does all of this in a decidedly non-institutional setting, with jazz records playing softly in the background and vintage magazines to read should you have to wait. I went in to see Quentin Lang after he answered his phone sounding very friendly and knowledgeable. In person was a different story. He answered his phone every 2 minutes so our conversation was very difficult and he kept showing me binders of classes that he had taken to prove his merits instead of focusing on my questions. He shoved me out of his office after an hour of me listening to him answer potential clients calls. He took my tax forms, didn't copy them, and then when I emailed him didn't reply. Finally, when I emailed to tell him that I had the last form that I needed he said he didn't have time for me and would mail back my forms. I called and called and called and emailed to make sure that he scanned them first and mailed them to the correct address and only on my 4th call did I manage to catch him. No response to vm or after leaving a message with his secretary before this. He was on a conference call when I got through and didn't remember where he had sent the forms. Then he hung up on me for his very important conference call. I'm sure other people have had different experiences but I can't believe the lack of professionalism involved here. I still don't know what I'm going to do about my taxes this year. read more

This year was my first year preparing my taxes, so I decided to go with the company my mother has been going to for a while. Although this is my fault And I should have thoroughly looked at the forms to make sure my address was correct on my taxes for both 2014 and 2015, I didn't think I needed it, because the funds were being deposited into my account. My federal 2014 was denied because they assumed I was independent (again not their fault), so I called them back and the Secretary Sabrina assisted me, but was very short over the phone when she resubmitted my form. Because my form was submitted again, it had to be sent in the mail instead of my bank account. I checked the IRS website to see where my refund was and it was sent March 11th. I patiently waited for them to come to my address, two weeks passed (this week), and I realized on the paper work, my address number and street were correct, but my zip code and city were incorrect. I called them today and spoke with Quentin, at first I told him I would come in and fill out a form to correct the issue instead of him emailing it to me, but I realized my schedule was tight, so asked him to email it instead and he said he was doing at that moment. I gave him an hour before I called back to follow up with the form and he claimed it had only been 20-30 minutes after we talked and he proceeded to be very rude and argumentative with me over the phone. I suggest you go else where, because maybe the 60 years of business is starting to lose its flare. I will be taking my 2016 taxes elsewhere next year. read more
