Luckily, the band was playing outside and none of this impacted our experience inside at the bar. The beertenders were friendly and efficient, especially with how busy Burley Oak was that night. I loved the atmosphere. It was a great venue to spend an evening. It felt like we were on a night out and there was a buzz in the air. Different from another local brewery we enjoy frequenting to relax and soak up some sunshine. We started at one of the hightop tables in the main taproom but moved to the end of the bar after a couple paid their tab and left. Burley Oak typically offers flights and single pours, but there were no flights that night due to the size of the crowd (completely understandable). We still were able to try multiple different beers and styles. I think my favorite was the Brown Butter Apple Pie, which indeed tasted like apple pie--delicious! I also had Sea Heathen, their Lime Lager (wasn't bad but I've had better), and a couple different IPAs. Their taplist featured something for everyone. If you or someone in your party doesn't enjoy beer, Burley Oak also offered mixed drinks, cocktails, and wine. My parents and I of course stuck with beer since we were at a brewery and enjoyed our selections. I also happened to get into conversation with the owner at the bar and he spoke to me like we were regulars. He was very personable, had a great sense of humor, and brought a bunch of energy. It was nice to see someone who was friendly and passionate about their business. We will be back to try more beer during our next stay in Berlin.

If you are a brave soul and do take on work at this place you will find yourself wasting so much time outside of the actual service time dealing with emails, texts, and phone calls about every little complaint and concern. You can assure her, provide remedies, undercharge her, refund work she complains about, go above and beyond to please her, but in the end, she thinks she knows better than you, will undermine you, and worst of all, not pay you when she says she will. Yes you're gonna feel like you're begging for your money, which we shouldn't have to do if some people actually kept their word. I was finally done when she started talkin to me like she's the expert and not listening to what I'm saying anymore, that's when it was time for me to peace on out. She can deal with it. The reason I'm only giving three stars is because there appeared to be an owner or manager who was constantly micromanaging the young employees. While I was checking out, a blonde woman with a baseball hat making cones aggressively corrected and criticized the staff in front of customers. It wasn't just giving direction, it came across as embarrassing and uncomfortable to watch; even comparable to downright bullying. Constructive feedback is important, but it should be done respectfully and when possible in private, but instead she openly berated them in front of customers as well as each other. The employees were doing their best, and the atmosphere would have been much more welcoming without that dynamic. I'd happily come back for the ice cream, but I hope the management style improves for the sake of both the staff and the customer experience. Hopefully this brings attention to the right people so it can be addressed on behalf of the staff.

Big fans of Door Dash back home, we decided to see what our options were here. SO glad that we chose Kaiju Sushi! Everything was fresh and delicious. The sweet potato roll was my favorite, and we both enjoyed the Vegetable Yaki Udon. Everything was also beautifully packaged. If I had found this fantastic place sooner, we surely would have eaten there again before we left. I travel to OC every other year, and look forward to ordering from Kaiju Sushi again!
