Don't be fooled by the beautiful pictures! Sadly disappointing. The service was okay. Waiters not particularly upbeat or friendly but not rude. I got the stuff zucchini flowers and Stagioni pizza which is a 1/4 margarita, 1/4 diavola, 1/4 prosciutto, and mushrooms and 1/4 cheese and olives . Both were disappointing. The zucchini flowers breading is very doughy, so you are not able to distinguish the flavors of the stuffing ingredients. The pizza was not cooked evenly and the very thin crust was soggy and didn't hold any of the toppings. In fact the toppings slid around during the minimal cooking process so that you just had a hodgepodge of toppings as opposed to individual slices which they do not cut. Do not, I repeat, do not order the gluten free pizza. Worst gluten free pizza I have ever had and it was cold on top of it. Basically, take a tough sponge and put toppings on it. We told the waiter, he reheated it and it was no better. We paid a $2 Euro GF premium for this horrible pizza. No one that knows anything about food would even serve this. This was our first pizza in Italy and in my opinion, it was the best pizza in Italy. The dough was AMAZING. The outside was crispy with a crust being a tad bit burnt / charred. The inside was soft, chewy and delectable. Never had a pizza dough baked to this level of perfection. The toppings consisted of a pesto sauce with pistachios, Mortadella and basil. Every aspect of the pizza complimented each other very well. While we are sitting at the dinner table we spoke to two Australian tourists. They told us one of their family members studied aboard in Italy and recommended this place because it was the best pizza in Italy. I can't say I disagree with them. Our waiters were hilarious and super energetic. They definitely made our experience memorable. Highly recommend this place!!! Our friends living in Milan took us to Assaje for our first dinner in the city and we were not disappointed! They don't take reservations, so make sure to get there early to put your name in. We showed up a few minutes after our friends and ended up waiting about 30 minutes for our names to be called, but all the while the restaurant was handing out Prosecco, fried cheese dough, and even slices of pizza! That all made passing the time with friends out front a pleasure. Once inside we were seated right between the mouthwatering desert display and the pizza oven. In other words, heaven. The menu was quite large for a pizza spot and had a lot of items that I couldn't read (sorry, I'm a tourist), but we followed the lead of pretty much everyone there and stuck to the pizzas. We ended up getting the 'Nduja, Diabola, Pistachio, and Veggie pizzas. Our friend who ate the veggie one said it was only so-so, and the rest of us passed around slices of the other three, they were fantastic! Diabola: Off their traditional menu, this pizza was simple and delicious! Really leaves room to tase all elements of the pizza. Everything down to the slightly salty crust was excellent. 'Nduja: This is one of their specialty pizzas and it did not disappoint. Not too spicy but huge on flavor. Pistachio: This was a very unique pizza that really hit the mark. The blend of salty meat and crust with the sweetness from the sauce and nuts was perfect. After dinner they brought round several digestifs and even a few complementary desserts! This place was PACKED with locals. No they don't speak English but it doesn't matter. The pizza dough is so good you'll want to die. This is my favorite pizza place in Milan so far. Assaje has two locations in Milan which both get busy but it's worth the wait. You can start your evening by having a glass of Prosecco and some fried dough while you wait. The pizzas are huge so you can either get one for yourself or share with some people. I've gone here multiple times and have never been disappointed. After dinner you can enjoy some post dinner drinks including limoncello! They also have some desserts that they hand out if you're lucky. If your in Milan this is a great place to get Napoleon style pizza!! read more
