I have had very bad allergies this year so I decided to look up an allergist in my health plan. I found Texan Allergy and Sinus Center and figured it would be fine for my needs. I scheduled an appointment on May 28, 2019. Before my appointment, I was informed that my insurance would only cover a consult and no testing without an authorization. So I figure, "Fine, it happens. Insurance can be tricky." I go and get the consult and a steroid shot. The office told me that they would be sending the clinicals and I should hear back within about 3 business days.
A week goes by and I don't hear anything. I figure that the approval process must be taking a while because it's allergy season and either office must be busy. A second week goes by and I call my insurance. It turns out that they never received clinicals from TASC. So I call the office to find out what's happened. They don't have an answer and say they will send the clinicals that day. Another week goes by without any word. I call the insurance and they still don't have the clinicals. So I call TASC again. They said they did not know why the clinicals had not been sent. When I heard back, they told me that they had just faxed the clinicals to my insurace but did not submit the authorization on my isurance's provider portal. So my isurance was getting faxes without any context on their end.
Today I heard back from TASC. They told me that my insurance informed them that authorization is not needed for allergy testing. It is needed for medication. I'm writing this review on June 21, 2019. It's been almost a month since I went in for my initial appointment. I've gone without medication during this time because I had no idea when I might be called in for testing and I did not want to delay. For these three weeks I have been in near-constant discomfort because this office did not communicate clearly with my insurance or myself. I had to do all of the digging. If I had not called, I'm sure that my case would have been forgotten about.
If you decide to use this service, I would recommend calling your insurance first to verify what will be needed. Then, I would recommend following up with the office immediately. They will not call you or investigate to make sure you are taken care of until you raise a fuss. read more
