Horrible and stressful experience! In August 2025, I hired Asphalt Engineering to sealcoat my driveway based on a written quote specifying squeegee application only, but the work was spray-applied and did not cure properly. The crew instructed me to wait four days instead of the 48 hours in the contract. On day five, tire marks appeared immediately after using the driveway and the crew left puddles of sealcoat material along the edges of the whole driveway. I documented the condition with photographs taken in August, November and January 2026. It has gotten progressively worse. My attempts to have the issues corrected were unsuccessful so I withheld payment. Instead of correcting their work and honoring their warranty, the Company decided to take me to small claims court. I later learned that the company had several similar disputes filed by other customers on the same day. Anyone considering their services should carefully read reviews and document all contract details before hiring. Yes, thank you for proving my point. Even though the Court decided in your Company's favor and required that I pay the debt, the fact still remains that the workmanship was horrible and that Asphalt Engineering does NOT stand behind their work nor honor their warranty! Asphalt Engineering replaced our driveway, which was 27 years old and in need of replacement. We had drainage issues with a downhill driveway, gutter downspouts draining alongside the garage doors, and a lot of cracks, sinking areas, and bumps. From the start, Asphalt Engineering is professional. The estimator was pleasant, took his time, and provided 2 options with detailed PDFs explaining the work and pricing. We had a catch basin installed with a drain pipe across the back yard. Every part of the process the crew was as neat as they could be, even when digging up a line across the width of the back yard. The pavement came out beautiful, and in a recent rain storm the drain works exactly as designed. Some of the other estimates suggested we did not need a drain, in spite of having a big puddle that has formed since we have lived here (12+ years) when it rains or when snow melts. The team is responsive to phone calls and emails, and worked with me to ensure I could have my landscaper address repairing the back yard with the binder coat in place and before the finish coat. I decided to do the driveway with an expansion and the space behind the house to the detached Garage. The crew arrived to take up the old asphalt and prep the area for the driveway with an expansion. After talking to the Forman, Alex, we decided to change a few things. Each change was made easily, I never felt like I was causing him an issue. He did the measurements sent the expansion data to the office and the updated price was rapidly conveyed to me. Which I approved. I got the updated contract signed the approval as the work continued. We had the driveway sealed for $785, and the coat is very thin--we can still see the rough texture of the driveway underneath. Our neighbors across the street also had theirs done by this company and they called with the same complaint but were told that is just how it looks. We won't be using them again . read more

I'm not one to gush, but honestly I had an outstanding experience with Asphalt Engineering. I hired the company to expand my driveway in size from a two-car to a four-car. The workers were incredibily professional and friendly, offering to answer any questions along the process. It took two days -- one day to prep and one day to pave. They were meticulous in the paving process. When done, my driveway looked absolutely smooth and perfect. The other compliment I need to offer is to the office workers, who were courteous and flexible. Of course, there was the ever-present, "If you get it done on this date a few days from now we'll give you a discount because we're in the area," but I didn't feel any extraordinary pressure to do that. They were also sans pressure on payment. While you have to pay 50% upfront and the balance on completion, I was awaiting a bank transfer and so asked for some leeway, and they immediately replied, "No problem." We had Asphalt Engineering install a new driveway for us back in the Spring/Summer of 2023. They had great reviews, were recommended from a couple people close to us, and came in $1700 under what a competitor was charging, so we went with them. Big mistake. Our driveway never flooded in this one corner before, but now it floods every time it rains. When we initially told the company owner about this, they had someone come test it and they couldn't replicate the flooding problem. Well, our driveway most certainly floods and the specific corner that floods is very close to our house's foundation. Thankfully we haven't really seen a lot of snow since 2023, but fast forward to last night, 2/16/2025, when we get several inches of snow and hours of rain that follows...the flooding in that corner of the driveway is worse than we've ever seen it AND the water is now making its way up our walkway and underneath the composite steps just in front of the house. My husband had to run out to grab a pump, extension cord, and hose to help draw some of the water away from our house, along with shoveling heavy snow away from that area and bringing it closer to the road so not as much could melt next to our house. It's great having to spend even more money on the driveway and lose hours of sleep thinking that you're going to wake up to water in your basement. This company has a lot of 5 star reviews on Google, but beware because not all of the customers they've served are happy with the outcome. Over 2 years later and we're still dealing with this headache. The old driveway we had did not pool water like this, and while Asphalt Engineering did offer to come and build a trench in our yard to help with water runoff...we don't want a trench in our already tiny yard, we just wanted the job done right so that we didn't have to deal with water pooling in the first place. Another problem popped up this past summer (2024). Grass was poking through the asphalt, a few inches away from the edge of the driveway. We called the company and told them about it, and they sent a team to burn the grass that was popping through and did some patching, but again, fixing a problem that shouldn't be happening after one year with a new driveway. Lesson learned, the cheaper option is most definitely not always the best option. We'll continue to share any additional issues that may occur with this driveway, as this is now an ongoing headache for us that we'd like to warn others about. read more

June 2021: Highly recommend avoiding this asphalt company. Despite explaining what I was looking to have completed, Insigiam showed up three hours early with no phone call to let me know until he appeared. Explained we wanted a quote for a full new drive. Quote came back as a sealcoating. Can't do since there is lifting from irrigation running underneath we need to repair, hence needing a new drive. I called to explain my frustration and to set yet a second time for the indivisible to come out to quote. Set it up with the polite customer service woman, only to get a call back 10 minutes later saying the President says he isn't interested in doing the job...that they aren't the right company to pave my driveway???? I asked foe him to please call to discuss as something was lost in translation, clearly. Never called me back. I called them on two more occasions and spoke with customer service leaving name and number for him to call back. Nothing. What a waste of time, unprofessional, inconsiderate and not the type of business I want to support in the end. $13K job giving to a fantastic competitor that has already outshined Asphalt Engineering. I have nothing but great things to say about Asphalt Engineering. We had 4 quotes to redo and expand our driveway and sidewalks. Asphalt Engineering's quote was reasonable, but what stood out was their professionalism, customer service, attention to detail and knowledge of the work. We met with Mike Hilton for a quote. Mike was professional, friendly and very detailed in answering all the questions as well as provided additional information that the other quotes did not provide. For example, he stated that our town had a maximum width where the driveway meets the road. He also informed us that a police detail was required since it was a busy road. Mike followed up, but was never pushy. We decided to hire Asphalt Engineering and all documents were online and the statement of work was very detailed. Asphalt's crew came over in early April to remove the old driveway and sidewalks and prepped the area. The crew was professional and careful with the work. They cleaned up the work area once they were done. The next week they came back to inspect and then paved the new driveway and sidewalk. They raised the new driveway up and provided a gentle slope to the street to channel water away from the house. I'm impressed with their work and would recommend this business to family and friends. read more

Was assured that they would fix my concerns, but on all occasions the crew foreman knew nothing about it. For one of the repair areas (put down new asphalt), water pools when it rains. We had a great experience using Asphalt Engineering. Even though our driveway was relatively short, there were problems. They had to remove the existing asphalt and grade the angle downward. Then, they had to stop where tree roots were spreading under the pavement at the other end of the driveway. The crew that removed the old asphalt, and changed the angle of the driveway did a good job. the crew that did the paving did an excellent job - no problems at all. I had Asphalt Engineering repair my asphalt driveway that was sinking around a concrete drain this August. The quoting process was fine. Scheduling wasn't ideal because I would have preferred them to the work while I was away but I could understand they presumably were busy. Three guys showed up and apparently had to use a rotary saw to cut out blocks of the old driveway. I was home when they started. The saw created amazing clouds of dust that went up higher than the three stories of our house. Apparently the job was harder than expected and took longer. However they promised they'd clean up when they left. When I got home there was dust everywhere - on the lawn, on the bushes and flowers, on our newly painted walls, window sills and windows. Our first floor windowsills were literally black, though our house color is beige. I also found chunks of asphalt in my lawn. We complained and they sent a foreman back to clean up but when we asked him to clean the walls and sills, he didn't have tools to do so. We did what we could but we're still cleaning things now, over two months later. I complained further and asked for a price discount and got an angry reply from the owner that they never damage lawns or walls. I have also checked with construction acquaintances who said the right way to do this is either have running water going over the cut while sawing or have a tarp surrounding it to catch the dust. Neither was done. I would certainly not recommend this outfit. read more

few days before the appointment got a call telling me that A was "out sick" and that B will stop by instead. B was new to the team although told me that A is no longer with the company. called the office few days after getting the quote from B to ask some questions and now learn that B is no longer with the company. C calls me few days later and we clarify part of the quote that B made an error in which should have lowered the price, but instead few days later i get a quote for an even higher number. few days after that i get a call from office trying to confirm appointment for tomorrow with C... what appointment???.. we never had one or reason to have one. needless to say place seems like a mess. read more

A well deserved 5 stars .The guy came out to check the job ,measured ,took pictures .Two days later I had an estimate ,I was astonished ,the price was 1/2 of what I thought it might be .The contract was in great detail ,how much gravel was going to be used and how much asphalt .The nice lady in the office told me that she still had a few openings left this year ,so I grabbed it .The workmen called to tell me that they had to come later because some equipment was still being used at another job .They arrived 12.30pm and finished about 6.30pm ,they carved out a walk from porch to driveway about 32' x 4' wide .I am very pleased with the job ,they cleaned up nicely ,they consulted with me a few times as to where they should put the walk .The bottom line was they listened .Four hard working guys came out and did this back breaking job ,and did it to my satisfaction .From now on this is the company I will recommend and call in for work.Unlike Tenagle who I also called ,but despite me asking him to call me to meet with him so I could tell him what I wanted .He came on his own and called my wife with his heavy accent ,she couldn't understand what he was saying .After I called him had a hard time understanding him ,not sure he knew what I wanted ,no written estimate ,just a much higher price than Asphalt Engineering .I think Angie's List needs to revaluate him ,he's no one I would ever do business with. 5/1 2015 I had Asphalt Engineering come out to add to their previous job .Again 2 professional guys came out worked hard and did an excellent job .This is a first rate company ,and their office staff is so helpful .I'm very pleased. read more

Having a dilapidated single car driveway for 19 years, we finally bit the bullet and had a 2-car driveway installed. We did our due diligence and got three estimates for the work to be done. Although Asphalt Engineering was the highest of the bids by a slight margin, the professionalism of the estimator, the willingness to complete what we wanted and the six page hard copy of the estimate with everything spelled out in a clear and concise manner including diagrams with specs included made them an easy choice. The process took two days with the first day dedicated to the excavation and laying the base. There was a sufficient number of workers to complete the job quickly and efficiently. On the second day, a different crew of workers arrived specific to the process of laying the asphalt. They too worked quickly and efficiently taking great pains to ensure there was a quality driveway with proper drainage (the driveway does have a moderate grade that was addressed). The permitting process and the securing of the police details were all taken care of by the company. Bottom Line: The new driveway looks great. Having recently experienced the recent "bomb cyclone", the heavy rain was diverted away from the house with no pooling observed on the driveway itself. Throughout the process, I interacted with a number of the staff and all were responsive to my questions or special needs and were a pleasure to work with. The information provided prior to and following the installation of the driveway was comprehensive and very educational. It definitely helped me make an informed decision about the driveway installation process. I would unequivocally recommend Asphalt Engineering for your paving needs. read more

Unethical billing!: I was satisfied with the work this company did paving and seal-coating my driveway. However, I was appalled at their unethical billing practices. The estimates they gave for the work to be done did not include several major charges for police details that are apparently required for them to do the job and which therefore could have been anticipated. They only decided to bill for these items long after the work had been done. In one instance, they had a "collections" staff member call me months later to demand payment for a supposed environmental police visit. They had never sent a bill for this and I had paid all their previous bills in full, immediately upon receipt. This kind of billing trickery is outrageous. As a result, I cannot recommend this company at all. read more

Stay away from this company. I did my driveway at a cost of $5k, and the outcome was lousy at best. There are grooves everywhere like giant corduroy and asphalt is coming off from many areas. This Nathan guy promised that they will re-heat the surface and refinish it but that was never done. Instead, few young and inexperienced guys showed up and did patching to few small areas. Now, the driveway looks like a giant rags. I want to rate them negative 10 if I can. There are better companies out there, and the best thing you can do is, stay away from these guys. I was going to take a legal action but decided not to. All the headache and time that I have to go through for $5k is just not worth it. read more

We have a driveway that is essentially flat with stone walls on either side. Our original driveway flooded all the time. The next contractor tried to install a drain but wasn't able to get through the rock below the driveway. As a result, the drain would fill and the driveway continued to flood. We brought in many driveway companies and couldn't find any who could solve the problem. Enter Asphalt Engineering. They felt the could grade it precisely enough that the water would flow. We were skeptical, but gave it a shot. We could not be a happier with the result. They did exactly what they said they would do and exactly what everyone else said was impossible. I had the worst experience. I was provided with a quote for some very necessary work and I called them to accepted the quote and asked that for that same price they patch a small area the size of three bricks. You would have thought I was literally grabbing money right out of the woman's pocket. Such a visceral and negative response for such as ask. She could have merely said it would be an up charge or have the person who did the quote phone me back. The person who did the quote (Andy) never phoned me back. I had a terrible experience with this company. I called for a quote on the repair of a sinkhole in my driveway. The hole was about 2.5 feet deep and the asphalt had fallen in. I described what I wanted to have done with the driveway repair, which included the installation of a drainage pipe under the driveway. I had to contact the company three times to get the quote sent to me in via e-mail. The quote was for work they decided they were going to do rather than what I requested be done. Additionally the quoted price to repair was on-par with having a brand new drive way installed. When I told them the quote was too high, they doubled down and defended the quote with an immature unprofessional quip in their e-mail response to me. I rented equipment and completed the job myself for less than $700 and finished it in less than 8 hours. Maybe if you have a large job and a big budget they will treat you with more respect than they treated me. read more

the service is disjointed, my simple driveway job has a sink hole in it. they asked me to pay the balance on a job that was not done right then when i complained about the sink hole the project manager told me should would take me to small claims court. now i can't park in my driveway and they will repair it when they get around to it. please drive on past this company. they don't take care of the little people. i asked 2 times for someone to come out and look at the sink hole and was told the owner is busy on a large job and he will come out sometime. i live 1 mile from the company and can't park in my driveway. really? every customer should be important. my money and trust has been misplaced. read more
