I was heading to the Mayo Clinic after a cancer diagnosis. I found a room for around $600. I called and it was around $800- he said it went up because of demand- I accepted and booked. They almost immediately cancelled my room. They said my card didn't work, even though it showed up on my Amex. Tried to rebook 14 min later- now the price is over $900. I tagged them on their social media page and got a call, then the room I wanted wasn't available. A total booking nightmare. Home2 suites was great. read more

Very poor a/c. Mind you, very nice hotel, nice and very accommodating staffs.brought my wifey with me for 3 days and that was evein in July and our room temp went as high as 76'F. They gace us electric fan, told us that they will fixed it but it was too warm in the room and very bad experience. Today, as hot as it is, thinking they fixed the a/c already since it has been almost 2 months but got in and room was so warm that i decided to cancel ans booked to another hotel nearby. The location is perfect for your stay in Rochester with a shuttle service that takes you to Mayo Clinic and St Mary's hospital. I've read a few reviews but seem to have had a different experience. The staff was friendly to me and my family. We were there for 4 months while undergoing treatment at Mayo Clinic and I feel the staff made our experience quite comfortable for us under the circumstances. It's a convenient location with a laundry room and a lounge room with computers and filled with games, puzzles and books. They also serve a small dinner a few nights a week. My only complaint is the breakfast. They do have a wide variety but it is not great. We stayed at the Kahler inn and suites and feel like they served a better breakfast. We sort of unexpectedly ended up loving this place! It's not fancy per se, but all the usual things were great: nice shower, comfy bed, etc. And you literally cannot beat the location. Steps from a main Mayo entrance, with a couple of decent local restaurants also within steps. What we really appreciated though were the lots of little perks and helpful things that just kept adding up and ultimately made us love this place. It just had a very practical but nice vibe. Just beyond the lobby there is a communal room with a fireplace that was quite enjoyable. There's a little coffee station that is always available any time of day. They have a little section with computers and a printer where I was able to print some paperwork I needed (no charge). There is a small nook where they have assorted sundries (snacks and drinks and convenience items) that you can write down on a little form and have charged to your room. They serve a nice breakfast, and then we found out that in the evenings they also serve some light fare (complimentary) such as soup, or one night, for example we had really yummy chili. All of Rochester seems to have a particular vibe that's sort of oriented around the Mayo Clinic, because it's just so clear that so many people are there for that. I think this contributed to how it felt at Aspen Suites-- it felt like there was an unspoken camaraderie, and a sort of accessible communal aspect to all the amenities that made Aspen Suites feel more like an inn versus your standard hotel chain. Close to St. Mary's, cozy rooms, decent pre-packaged breakfast, evening soup Mon.-Thurs., full size fridge, a noisy dishwasher, microwave, two burners, dishes, pans, useless toaster, nice front desk staff, complimentary newspaper, free laundry, lots of TV stations, small shower room, but not able to navigate wheelchair through bedroom into bathroom. Takled to manager and they sent maintenance up to move the beds over so that wheelchair can get through. Shower was slippery so they sent bath mats right up. We rented our room via hotwire.com - it was rated well and was near Mayo St. Mary's Hospital campus. It's not a terrible place, but we would only stay again as a last resort. Pros: right across the street from St. Mary's Hospital at Mayo, and there is some free food, so it's quite convenient. The WiFi is pretty reliable. Cons: the staff vary widely in friendliness and attitude. We were greeted ok. When we asked for help with the internet, after having some trouble, it was clearly not priority for her and she said "no one else is having any problem" in near exasperation. I don't want to feel like I have to calm down the staff at the place where I'm paying for the lodging. The food was just ok - we ate at nearby cafes instead. The underground parking was a little hard to find. Once we found it, I had trouble with the garage door - it didn't raise and lower reliably, and once it started to come down before my car was clear of the door, which made me nervous. The room was crowded with furniture, making it tough to move around easily. Ok for a place to crash for one night, but I wouldn't want to be stuck here for long. read more

Very Clean and tastefully decorated. Very recently updated. Kitchenette is a two-burner electric stove top, microwave, fridge, dishes, a few pots/pans, utensils, etc. Bathroom had an exhaust fan - nice. Some don't and rooms just keep building up shower humidity. Neutragena toiletry products also nice. Nice showerhead and curved shower rod for more roomy shower. Room A/C was noisy just like every other hotel room in the world. Housekeeping was good. Typical continental breakfast with oatmeal, sausage or bacon, but eggs were not fresh - they were from a carton. Too bad! All foods were generic brands (I saw the boxes beings delivered one day.) and premade. Every night at 5:30, they had some kind of snack, from cookies to mac-n-cheese to ravioli in sauce. Coffee, tea, and hot cocoa always available in the lobby too. Free parking in underground garage and some in outside lot. I didn't check out their exercise area. Right next door is the Canadian Honker restaurant, which delivers to the hotel. We ate there and the food was good. Overall, a good hotel, a bit pricey but right next to the hospital so location matters. Shuttles to Mayo every half hour in the morning then every hour. Mayo Clinic pricing available, not sure what kind of discount that really is. I would go back, but I would also be willing to look for a better deal if I had to go back. read more

Our first time staying at the Aspen Suites. We go to the Mayo Clinic every 2 years and usually stay at another hotel down the street. We decided to try to save a little money this trip and were happy we chose Aspen Suites. We will stay here again. It is not modern or new, but we were comfortable with everything - the bed, pillows, shower, etc. The kitchenette was nice but we did not use it. They provide complimentary coffee and nice tea options in the lobby. All the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Mayo shuttle stop worked great and we also used the Trolley Tour stop in front the hotel. We like that it's next door to the Canadian Honker restaurant. The only 2 cons: the wifi was unstable, and the the complimentary happy hour food was not so good (hot dogs 1 night, and canned beef stew another night). read more

For people who need access to either the Mayo Clinic or St Mary's Hospital, these suites are well located, and the hotel is a hub for shuttles to hospitals and shops. Aspen however, does not have an airport shuttle. (And the cost of ALL taxis from the airport to the town is $32 for one person and an extra $5 for each additional person). It is a pleasant hotel, reasonably modern, and with nice common spaces. it is a no smoking hotel, but it allows guests to keep pets in their rooms, which is not something we normally care for. The suites are well laid out. There is a small but very functional kitchen with a cook top, full sized fridge, microwave, and a dishwasher. The lounge has a couch and a recliner, a desk, and a wall mounted TV with a full cable package. The bedroom also has a TV, adequate clothing storage and two queen beds. The bathroom is tiny, but functional. A warning: The hotel is noisy! There is noise from the upper floor and from people talking as they walk along the corridor, outside the rooms. The maid service, for the tariff, is terrible. If you don't arrive early for breakfast, the pickings are quite slim. The front desk staff is a little casual and remote, and lacking in the professional basics one would normally expect in an expensive hotel. One thing we were concerned about was the musty smell in the room. We kept the windows ajar and this helped; but I reiterate, this is an expensive hotel! At the end of each level's corridor there is a handy, but stinky, guest's garbage room, and wheelchairs are available from the foyer. Another warning, a late checkout will cost you between $75 and a full day's extra tariff. That's a bit much! If Aspen Suites were to match other, more recognized suite hotels for price, I would award three and a half stars. But for the money currently charged, it represents poor value for money. read more

Can't beat the location, directly across the street from St. Mary's and the mayo shuttle picks up right at the front desk and will take you to the Gonda building. A bit pricey, but our two bedroom suite was huge! Beds were pretty comfortable, lots of pillows too. Neutrogena lotion and shampoo products restocked daily. The lobby has fresh coffee, tea, and hot chocolate all day. The breakfast is okay, typical- cereal, a lot of fruit, yogurt, hard boiled and scrambled eggs, waffle maker, sausage. There's a little patio area that's comfortable if it's nice outside! Also free newspapers (local and USA today) in the lobby. The exercise room consists of a treadmill, recumbent bike, and elliptical. And one random pair of 8 lb weights. There isn't a pool, only a small hot tub. Arcade has a few video games, ping pong table, and even corn hole boards. Overall, not a bad place to stay, very way access to Mayo buildings and other food options. read more

We have been traveling for work for my husband and have stayed at Aspen Suites three times now. This is a very nice hotel. All of the employees that I have encountered have always been very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. There is garage parking (secured) as well as a very nice and clean laundry facility which is free to guests. While we didn't take advantage of them, there are snacks/food available often to the guests, I believe for free. Examples: pulled pork sandwiches one day, and I believe chili on another day. There were also cookies one day. That is just thoughtful. Other amenities available are a spa (hot tub), a small workout room, a game room, a DVD library, and a small store there on site. The hotel is just really nice in general. There is a sitting area with couches and a fireplace off of the lobby that is very welcoming. Being that this hotel is in the downtown area of Rochester and is right in the midst of the Mayo Clinic and directly across from St. Mary's, it is nice that there is such comfortable, nice, and friendly lodging available for long-term (or short-term, for that matter) patients or visitors. For us, traveling for work, it is just as wonderful to have such lodging available while away from home. I can't speak for every room, but our rooms each time have actually been suites which included a couch and chair, a desk, and a small kitchenette (full-size fridge/freezer, two burner stove, dishes, etc for use). Dogs are also welcome, which makes us very happy =) Sorry to make this review so long, but more info is better, in my opinion especially mine is the only review so far. There are also good restaurants within walking distance of Aspen Suites. Canadian Honker is right next door and is very good. They also deliver, which we happily took advantage of a couple of nights ago when it was raining. Cafe Presto is a few minutes away (walking) and is not to be passed up. Their lemon chicken was absolutely delicious. Clearly fresh and well-made (see my review on here for more information). Honestly, I would recommend them without hesitation. However my biggest complaint is that the beds were uncomfortable (lacking in support) and the linens were a complicated mess of sheets, blankets, coverlets, and bedspread. The customer comes LAST at Aspen suites of Rochester MN. Our family travels to Rochester every year for treatment at Mayo clinic. My father reserved a room for my wife and I and he also arranged to pay for the room. Upon check in, we were asked for a credit card for "incidentals"... At this time we also asked and were ASSURED the room charge would go to my father's card. 3 days later while grocery shopping we were inconvenienced at checkout to find our account overdrawn... The CHARGE had been billed to OUR CARD! Upon contacting the hotel, the refused to pay the charges incurred by their incompetence. Don't expect any consideration for the customer at Aspen Suites. They have lost the business of our entire family. On top of that, the room was poorly cleaned. Totally agree with Amber S. review! I stayed here for 3 weeks. Location is excellent! You pay the price for it though. In return, you get a older, outdated room. Nice variety at breakfast when filled. Half of the time, the food was empty. If you ask, the lady would get it for you but really you shouldn't have to ask. It should always be filled! Cleaning policy sucks. I felt that I spent the whole time cleaning. I could never get the musky and mildew smell to go away. Overall, I had enough. We stayed for a week in mid August in the 2 bedroom suite. We asked for a top floor so no one was walking over us. The rooms were really clean and the staff was friendly. We liked the pool too. The breakfast was ok, it's nice to make waffles and then their is always eggs and some kind of meat, sausages, bacon... The location is great and they have free underground parking. We plan on staying there again. The furniture is dated looking but it didn't deter us from a return visit. read more

I'm currently staying at Aspen Suites for my Dad's surgery at St. Mary's hospital which is directly across the street. We have the living/ kitchen area and the seperate bedroom suite. This hotel has more cons than pros and to me the cons out weigh the pros. I'm giving it 2 stars because we are paying around $166 a night (mayo rate) and we don't get a room clean everyday. We told the front desk since they don't prefer to clean everyday that we at least want one every 3 days. We have had to constantly remind them to do so. We are staying two weeks and paying them a lot of money to stay here and that's a hotels job, to change sheets and clean the room daily and make the guest comfortable especially at $166 a night. On weekends they don't clean at all unless you request them to do so which we did and they still didn't. They do have continental breakfast which can save a lot of money during your stay but the breakfast is worth all of $5. The eggs aren't even real. They have no taste. They could at least fix you real eggs. Our keys were constantly having to be renewed to be able to use them and it wasn't because we had them close to our phones. Pros: They have a mayo clinic shuttle which most of the hotels here do. They do have a little gym. They provide free laundry. They also have a nice sitting area in the lobby along with a patio and grill that's available to use. They are convenient in location to St. Mary's and just a short drive to Mayo's other buildings downtown. They are also convenient to restaurants and a coffee shop. Lastly, when they do clean it's at least clean. It's not a dirty hotel. Overall, I think this hotel would be great if they would just lower their price for the house keeping reason and breakfast quality or keep the price as is and up their game on continental breakfast and housekeeping daily. read more

This review is for the Aspen Select, next to Aspen Suites. Overall great experience and would definitely recommend. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because, hey, it's not a luxury hotel. We stayed one night for an appt at Mayo; St Mary's Hospital is directly across the street. The man at the front desk when we checked in was very pleasant and helpful. This place is an older building, recently changed names after aquisition by the neighboring hotel, but has been updated very nicely. Pros: They offer hospital discount. Location. Free breakfast is small, but adequate. Coffee available at all times. Coffee maker in the room. There is a microwave and a large (for a hotel) fridge in the room. Room was very nicely updated, clean and spacious. Very nice Neutrogena toiletries. Free WiFi. Free parking, and we were told, "don't worry, you can park there all day" even if checking out at noon. Cons: appearance on the outside (don't judge a book by its cover), breakfast selection (but it's free), the heat/cool system is kind of noisy, vent is also, and you can't turn it off, as far as i could tell, but if you're like my husband and enjoy white noise, that's probably a pro. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Aspen Hotel a couple of months ago. I have special needs due to my disability and needed to fly out for a visit at the Mayo Clinic. Needed to find a hotel room that could accommodate a wheelchair and was on the bottom floor. Also needed a place that gave us access to the shuttle service to/ from the Mayo Clinic since we would be in MN for a week. Everyone that we encountered at the Aspen Hotel was so pleasant, accommodating, and always helpful. And the parking situation was an added bonus. We didn't need to dig the rental car out of the snow every day, which was fantastic considering other nearby hotels of the same caliber as the Aspen Hotel had outdoor parking lots only for self parking. Due to my food allergies we needed a hotel that could provide an apartment/suite type of layout for our stay. The kitchen was very well-stocked with everything that we needed to cook and prepare meals with daily. That was fantastic for us as we really did not need to go out and buy anything except for food. There's always somebody available at the front reception desk, and there's an area well-stocked with wheelchairs for you to borrow and get to and from the hospital if needed. They even clean them which is great. Can't remember the name of the restaurant that was a couple of doors down from the Aspen hotel but I do know that they deliver, which was fantastic for my husband, since as mentioned before, the winter was particularly brutal. Last but certainly not least, amazing breakfast items like cereal and fruit + fresh WAFFLES and BACON daily. We will be staying at the Aspen Hotels and Suites again next month. I'm happy to know that everything will most likely be as carefree and comfortable as this past trip in February, so I'm looking forward to it. The husband is looking forward to the waffles... What made the experience exceptional was a genuine attempt to provide a comfortable and caring experience. This carried throughout all staff and all shifts. While the "amenities" are not at a bragging level (supersized flat screen) the experience is inclusive. Everything works. The room was immaculate. We are staying at Aspen Suites while my wife goes to Mayo hospital. Aspen is located right by the hospital complexes and has shuttle services that picks you up from and returns you to the hotel lobby. The shuttle will drop you off at all of the mayo facilities picking you up when your ready to return. The rooms are very nice and clean. The beds are comfortable. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is good. They are pet friendly too. We will defiantly come back here when we return. Very nice place to stay! The price is reasonable for how nice the rooms are. read more

I've stayed at Aspen Suites three times now. Every time I visit the Rochester area, I stay there. I love the family feel that Aspen Suites provides. They are exceptionally caring about how your stay is and if they could do anything to improve your stay. I always eat the breakfast there. I don't normally eat waffles, but I eat it every morning while I'm staying. The rooms are awesome. The bed is very comfortable, and free HBO! I recommend everyone stay there. read more

Alright so the summary for people who don't want to read through my rant: They lost my reservation, did not apologize once, and did not offer to do anything to fix it. Long version: I booked my stay with Aspen Select about a month ago on Hotels.com, when we arrived at Aspen Select around 5PM on Wednesday night, the front desk clerk, Adam, could not find the reservation. I showed him my confirmation email from hotels.com and he still could not find it. The manager walked past us multiple times while we were trying to figure it out and said NOTHING. He said they had the exact room I wanted so he gave me the key and told me to call Hotels.com to fix it. I called into hotels.com and she called Adam at the front desk... They had to resend all the information to a different email. When I asked who was to blame for this, she said that they had sent the confirmation email to the general managers email address, and evidently she does not check her email. I can not believe they would run a business this way! This is the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen at a hotel, and I travel frequently. I gave him the room keys back and had hotels.com refund my money. I refuse to do business with something/someone like this. Unprofessional, unorganized and did not apologize once! What a joke! I was also very disappointed with the fact that there was only 1 person working (the manager left amidst this) and he had 2 to 3 people as well as phone calls waiting on him the entire time. Not a memorable experience. A woman who said she was just starting there, was showing me the room. She was complaining about her job the whole way. Really?? You just started and you don't complain to customers. That was a turn off. When getting back in the elevator, there was an older gentleman obviously confused about their confusing elevators. She just pushed him aside rather than asking to help him. The rooms while quiet, were very small. Too small as we were tripping over one another. Found the rest of the staff just as unhelpful as the first day. We left for another hotel that was a much better experience. read more

I do not know what we would have done without Aspen Suites. When my husband was told he would be having a stem cell transplant we were also told to plan on being in Rochester for at least 100 days. We arrived in January and got to return home the first of May. I was terrified about everything. I am from a small town and had never been away from my family, had never flown, and had never been to a large hospital. We chose to stay at Aspen Suites and the staff was so good to us. Any request we ask for was quickly taken care of. Laura even bought me new puzzles to occupy me during those long winter days. I can never thank them enough. I loved the small market available with snacks, drinks, and other items one might need. Laundry could be done at no charge, other than your detergent. We had no vehicle so we took advantage of the free shuttle to Mayo, Walmart, and the mall. There are also restaurants within walking distance. The Emergency Room is right across the street, which came in very handy one night. We made the right choice staying at Aspen Suites. I highly recommend staying there.
