I have been a patient of the Auburn Maine office of Aspen for several years. Lately it has been evident that staffing issue has been driving schedules. I've been rescheduled a number of times and now this time once again they have rescheduled my appointment for two and half weeks. I called with an emergency for a tooth that was causing me pain and and face swelling. It prevented me from sleeping and eating and still they delayed my appointment for nearly two and half weeks. Last week it was $367.00 for insurance rejected expenses!The "expenses" were from 1 1/2 years ago! This is the first I heard about it, Not one bill or notice ever reached my PO Box!? I was there for a minor denture adjustment which I should have just done myself. But the teeth still have some warranty, I think! They greeted me with Mr VanE... we noticed you have a negative balance to your account, we won't see you today until you pay this $$$!!! I Fucking lost it! No bills ever reached my P.O Box! So I demanded to see the Business Mgr! Tallulah, Said I must pay this today or else! I offered a $10 good faith payment until I talked to the Ins Co. I was seen to get a mm of material taken off the top plate! I have worn the Ill fitting dentures about an hour over the 1.5 years I've had them... I am TOTALLY DISGUSTED WITH ADPEN DENTAL AND THIS PARTICULAR FRANCHISE OFFICE. I will never set foot in there again! There is one angel working there, a dental tech (I think) named Brie. She was very calm and helped me calm down! She took care of my problem with the dentures and said she was sorry I had a bad experience today! I apologized to her for blowing my cork out front, And I let her know my anger was not directed at any one person and especially not towards her. I went here because they are the only dentist anywhere in the area who accepts Tricare, the military insurance. They are greedy, incompetent, and dishonest. They gave me 2 fillings on the same tooth although it needed a root canal and left me in terrible pain for weeks. And their "good faith estimate" of how much insurance would pay was too high, so it ended up costing me almost as much as it would have at a real dentist. Sure it's cheap (supposedly), but it's terrible. I've gotten better dental care in a tent in Iraq. I will do my own dental work with a claw hammer before I go back to Aspen Dental. read more

This will probably be the longest review I've ever left. There is a reason that if you look up any Aspen Dental on Yelp or Google, they are flooded with negative reviews and lawsuits; it's a modern day "snake oil salesman". I thought I'd give this a try, as dentist are hard to get appointments with currently. I was told my first appointment was free, as they did not take my insurance. They would do x-rays, scans, and evaluate my mouth to come up with some plans. Everything so far seemed pretty straight forward. My first red flag was what felt like they were trying to "upsell" me on products and procedures. This is supposed to be a health care facility, not a car dealership. Then I was told I need A LOT of work done. So much so, it would cost $15,000. BUT GOOD NEWS! I could do a payment plan with them for really low interest rates as low as 15%! I was blown away. I said no thank you I'm all set. There was no way I was going to pay that much, especially when they told me all these things that were wrong that didn't make sense. I finally was able to get a dentist who did take my insurance. Not only did they tell me they were completely wrong, but that even if they had to do all the work they mentioned, it shouldn't come even close to that price. Now I know this is a long review, but this is where us gets even more ridiculous. They then tried billing me for that appointment. $750. Because, and I quote, "you have insurance, we just don't accept it." That is not what they tell you up front. I had to fight and argue for months before they would finally drop it. Then, I still decided to get a teeth cleaning done, being told it would only be $175, as my current dentist was booked 9 months out. Okay, $175 for a cleaning. Seems fair. Before I even leave my house for my appointment, after they rescheduled twice, and both times confirmed with me the pricing, they called to see if I was showing up and, again, if I had insurance. This time, I told them I didn't. I'll come in and just pay out of pocket. I show up and they want you to pay upfront. I said no problem and she said it'll be $600. WHAT?! I was furious! They told me now it's because they need to do another 6 month evaluation, and because it had been so long since my last cleaning it would take longer, etc etc etc. They used every single excuse in the book. I just turned around and walked out. Now I wouldn't be surprised if they send me a bill for this appointment, to which I will fight tooth and nail to never pay a dime of. This company is a complete scam. Do a quick google search and you'll see all of the lawsuits and horror stories that come out of this place. How they are still in business is beyond me. I can only guess it's because they take advantage of poor and desperate people and rip them of every dime and penny they have. These people are disgusting, especially the people who run them. They know exactly what they are doing and should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sure I'll get a reply from management, as they do seem to reply to post on here. I'll save you the trouble: don't bother. Nothing you say or do will change my opinion. You and everyone else who runs this place should be ashamed how you treat people and take advantage of those who are the most in need. I went for an appointment with my husband and my daughter. Both of them had 1 PM appointments. I had a 2 PM appointment. When they were called back I went back naturally with my 17 yr old daughter but before we got to a room I was asked to wait out in the waiting area while she had X-rays, naturally I was fine with it, after about 25 mins the nurse popped her head out and said "you can come sit with us while we wait for the Dr. but the room is small and we're just hanging out, or you can wait in the waiting room. At this point I knew I wasn't left for just the X-ray but also the cleaning and got the vibe from her that I just wasn't wanted out back. I mean why would she even ask me if I wanted to wait in the waiting room when I obviously initially walked out back with my daughter because I wanted to BE there with her! But I obliged and said no I'm fine I'll wait out here I guess. Fast forward another 20 mins, a woman came in and sat down, they called her within 10 mins, mind you it's now 2:10 another 10 mins goes by and a woman and young child came and checked in, no more than sat down and was called out back almost immediately. 1 1/2 hours of sitting around was enough for me . I had another 4 pm appt and was pressed for time already. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth so I stood up and walked out. I won't be back. My initial visit went well but the follow up doesn't exist. I have 2 dry sockets and have been in excruciating pain for 2 weeks. I have called numerous times and the phone always goes to a useless voicemail. I left messages and never received call backs. To top the lousy follow up, I called the answering service several times and was told I would get a call back in 2 hours. I was never called. As of the writing of this review, 13 days after dental extractions I still have pain, taking 2 Tylenol and 2 Ibuprofen every 4 hours and have not received any calls back.They're eager to get you in and make care plans in the thousands of dollars but not very eager to help with aftercare problems. read more

I cracked a tooth on Christmas day and immediately scheduled an appointment with Aspen Dental. I was feeling fortunate to be able to have this "affordable" option. Long story short they said that I need a cap on my tooth (no surprise there) and that I had 8 cavities! I was immediately concerned as I knew that no matter what, this would be expensive. I felt overwhelmed and anxious as they listed off all the things that needed to be done. After they were done my exam they immediately escorted me into an office with a staff member who walked me through a payment plan. They eventually came down to a $5,300 charge. They put me into a bracket based off of what I made yearly and came to a monthly payment plan. She was quick to hand over an iPad with a dotted line to sign. I hesitated and was extremely uncomfortable. I had to be at another appointment soon after and used that as an excuse to leave. When I mentioned this the staff member said, "you really have to leave right now?" and I said, "yes". I could sense a little bit of impatience with her. I walked out of Aspen Dental very stressed that now I have a possible huge sum of money I'll need to owe over the next few years. But something was telling me that something was off. I talked to a couple of people who weren't surprised and that I should get a second opinion. From all that stress that Aspen Dental caused I felt like I should just go with the payment plan as they are dentist and another consultation will just tell me the same thing... Fast forward a couple of months later and I went back to my original dentist. Long story short I got my teeth cleaned and examined and was told that I don't need a cap on my tooth and that I have one "tiny" and non-pressing cavity. I felt anger that I had been taken advantage of from Aspen Dental. I felt duped and conned that they used my stress to almost force me to sign an payment agreement. If I could leave a negative star for this review I would. Do your own research and maybe they do great work with some people, but this is not the experience I had. They knew what they were doing. Also, to follow up with them I had to call over 4-5 times with no response to my voice mail. I then walked in to talk to someone about getting my x-rays and they said they "never filed the paper work" or that it was lost, I can't remember. After I had gone in and physically signed it. The worst place! Never go there. The owner was very impolite. Never even said hello. They charged me for things my insurance did not cover even though I was told they had called to check on my coverage. They finally withdrew the bill since it was their fault. Later on I tried to get my records and X-rays back. Took a week of phone calls and then they wouldn't give me the X-ray films- only printed on paper ones that have poor clarity. Only the office manager is mean but she has nothing to do with the dental care. Once when I had a mix up with my ride she booted me out to go wait at Good Will. Not removing a star for that though. Today I brought my son in for a cleaning. This appointment was rescheduled by them 3 times. They asked me if I had a copy of my insurance card their system updated and they no longer had it. I did not have a copy I told the receptionist that I would pull it up. She talks to the office manger and told me I would have to pay 300 dollars or show proof of insurance within 15 mins. I told the receptionist that I will show my insurance give me a few mins. Within 10 mins I found my insurance card (online) she was on the phone and I waited patiently for her to get off. She told me that wasn't proof of insurance. She would need my husband information (what she already had he was a patient too.) I went to the Aspen Dental in Lewiston Maine. I had cleaning then three crown were done 11/28/2022 two crown finished. 12/29/2022 one crown done. I had three insurances at that time Surebridge Careington a primary carry policy, Cigna Dental carry policy, and Liberty dental Medicare. The carry policies pay full amount and both can be sent in the same day, the liberty has to have the amount paid by first policies when you file claim. In February I got contacted that Liberty didn't pay and said I had another insurance. I went on the website and put in the Careington Sure bridge info. Then called an agent and explained that liberty had to be the last to be billed and had to have payments from others. My next Appointment got cancelled due to a power issue that had their office down, no computers The called me that day. I came in for a cleaning on 12/26/2023 and was denied Service due to the fact that their billing office did not ever bill Carrington Surebridge! 767 dollars a crown. So I went home and went through my account documents and found that they never sent a claim to Careington Surebridge and never sent the payment amount of the other two to Liberty. No money from liberty or Carrington Surebridge on three crowns. And they only billed Cigna for two of three crowns. Cigna was missing 469$. Careington Surebridge 2301$ and Liberty probably 400$. I was never informed that they still had an issue! For seven months not a bill email or boo! So, I am asking anyone who also had billing issues and lost money ECT lets form a class action lawsuit against them so they finally realize how bad their billing office is! read more

I find it hard to believe this is the service they provide first I need a bottom denture they advertise a reasonable price on TV so I made my appointment telling them I had a tooth that was snapped off at the gum line and was painful. They gave me an appointment 3 months later that was the best they could do. The initial exam was okay until I got to billing. After $1,000 worth of insurance and another $1,000 discount for being in network they slid a bill across the table 4 over $7,000 telling me they couldn't make just a lower because it wouldn't lineup. What so if I had all my top teeth you couldn't make me a bottom denture come on that doesn't pass the laugh test so we went back and forth across the table sliding bills 763 finally I told him Hey listen I'm not going to sit here and watch you waste all this paper I'm done they handed me a bill for 650 some odd dollars I decided to go forward. That was my first mistake. When I got there for my impression of my lower jaw for them to make the Denture the lab tech never looked in my mouth and tried to shove a tray full of goop in my mouth while I still had a partial on my lower jaw. So I mumble do you want me to take this out o you have a partial? She asks. Well yes it had you looked you would have known that and chances are you don't have the right size tray in your hand. Which she didn't and it needed to be done over again. At which time I told him you better get it right because you are not doing it a third time. So when she leaves the room to show it to the lab for the second time I took these photos of dirty unsanitary conditions. So she comes back with a heavyset blonde girl who is going to explain to me that they're going to do this as many times as they need to. Where I tell him I don't think so that this is not an amateur hour and if you couldn't get it right in Two Shots what makes me think you'll get it right the third time. So now the dentist comes in and tells me I'm being rude. Bitch you don't know what route is yet. I had never raise my voice and I had never swore once to up till this point and when I pointed that out to where she told me that isn't the way it works you know how it works I got up and walked out that's how it works I will never ever recommend or use their service again they're filthy they're rude and how many people pay those huge bills they try to stick you with. How many have to go without other things because that $600 art that they say on TV wind up costing them seven or eight thousand dollars? Now here's the rub the state of Maine Dental Board only looks into the dentist. And how they do their job they don't care about the cleanliness of the facility or the business practice they could be doing this out of a porta potty at a concert. I've contacted my insurance company the Better Business Bureau and the Maine Dental Board I'm waiting to see if they got the balls to send me a bill or try to Bill my insurance company. I went in to have a tooth pulled and they said I needed over $11,000 worth of work. I had to pay $3700 up front for them to even start. Ended up with a temporary partial which I found was broken in half the first time I took it out of it's case to put in. Returned it with a request to get a refund on the amount I paid towards the work not done yet and did not receive my money back. They owe me over $700. read more

I'm giving Aspen Dental a 1 star because they are a money grubbing corporation. I brought a friend to his appointment to assist him. They took some x-rays, then looked around in his mouth saying he had 6 cavities. They brought us out back to go over his "treatment plan" to fill those and some other unnecessary cleanings. (Anything to make a buck). They told us how the don't accept Mainecare and that everything would total around 600 dollars. Needless to say, we left and went to Two Rivers Dentistry in Lisbon. He looked over the x-rays and his mouth finding he only had some slight tooth decay on the bottom and ONE cavity on the top! He also had to take more x-rays because Aspen didn't even include the crowns in the photos like he needed to see. "At least they printed them on glossy paper, I'll give them that." When trying to edit my first review that I had left for Aspen Dental after my very first appointment because it did go OK other than them bruising my gums while doing my impression. anyway every other time that I have been there since my 1st appointment has been awful, a true nightmare, between the terrible staff giving me an attitude and the crappiest care that can possibly be giving, they will straight out lie to you and tell you that your teeth are no good and that they can't be saved so that they can get you to rip all your teeth out and get dentures that is what they did to me I tried to post pictures on the Google reviews for them and they would not let my new review go through even though I have edited it and tried to re-do it now at least three times the last time I wrote it out for literally an hour and posted two pictures (One of me since they gave me dentures a few days ago and one of me last week looking at my cheeks up close in the camera ) and they will not let it go through for some reason. Worst experience at a "Dentist" ever. This place should not be in business. They are just out to make money. First dentist that ever wanted money upfront before services are rendered. Yeah, that's right, just like a prostitute!They give you x-rays, and do an exam for free, to tell you need things you don't. Just the x-rays took them at least 30 minutes. At any other dentist x-rays take about 5 minutes. They are extremely rude and not friendly at all. They tried to sell me an electric toothbrush that they sell. They said I needed it. Dentist told me to breath through my nose, apparently he thought my breath was stinky. The dentist looked like he was just out of college. They told me I needed to get cavities filled and get two deep cleanings. This would cost over $500 with insurance according to their guess. Yes it was a guess!. Don't believe me about this company?.
