The tomato sauce was very sweet, and with the peppers mixed in, it created a taste that was not the most exciting. The gnocchi itself was a little on the mushy side. Perhaps the staff were just too distracted that day by the world cup opener that Italy were about to play. The mixed salad was not bad. The house red wine was quite nice. The strangest part were the comlimentary olives brought out before the meal. I think they must use the same super-sweet tomato sauce on the olives, but unfortunately, for me, it just made them taste like baked beans. That's not to say you shouldn't try it yourself. You just can't sum up an Italian restaurant from one serving of gnocchi and a bad bowl of olives-a-la-baked-beans, can you? As for charm, this place oozes charm like the Gulf of Mexico oozes oil these days...only in a good way. The staff were universally, pleasant and helpful. And what more can you have for atmosphere in an Italian restaurant than a bunch of guys shouting at each other in Italian? The decore, the building, the architecture all bring it together into a lovely experience. I will try Villa Romana again, most likely. There was enough possibility to allow them a second chance. But I won't be having the Arrabiata.

But still this has been one of the best pizza experiences I've had in UK. Three Joes pizza is absolutely delicious! We tried the garlic and cheese bread and the meat pizza. The dough is really soft but also crispy on the outside. It has a very neutral flavor, not sour at all. The fillings taste natural and homemade, the pulled pork was specially amazing. The amount of fat was just enough to make it slide down without overcoming the taste. The garlic and cheese bread was absolutely stunning as well. Size wise we pretty much divided both the pizza and the bread for the two of us which got me pretty full. But if you're used to a 6/7" pizza, you can probably manage one on your own. We ordered take away but the restaurant itself is pretty and cozy and the service is friendly. I recommend this place to anyone looking for natural, homemade and honest pizzas, and I deeply regret I can't eat it anymore.

In hind sight, the chairs I sat on, did not have anywhere for you to rest your feet, so they dangle off the high chairs and are very uncomfortable. I should have just sat at a booth. The bar tender took my order, although it did take a while to get his attention, even though there wasn't anyone else at the bar. In his defense, he was cleaning out equipment, for the day. There were waitresses around, but I guess they only have their tables. I ordered the fish and chips.. but I wasn't impressed. Typical American fish and chips, when I really wanted the British version! The beer was nice and cold though and what seemed like the manager, did keep checking in with me, to see if I was ok. All in all and nice place to go, for dinner with the family. They have lots of variety for food choices, everything from Pizza, to Pasta, to fish and Burgers.
