Those days are long gone now, but places like Pizza Express do an admirable job of providing masses of consumers with finely topped pizzas, respectfully and unpretentiously year in year out (Pizza Express have also diversified their portfolio and now offer pizzas on supermarket shelves for people inclined to living room dining instead). This particular branch provided outside seating and on a sunny, though slightly windy, day overlooking Portsmouth harbour, the pizza tasted that little bit better. Washed down with a bottle of sparkling mineral water, Italian-style. But still this has been one of the best pizza experiences I've had in UK. Three Joes pizza is absolutely delicious! We tried the garlic and cheese bread and the meat pizza. The dough is really soft but also crispy on the outside. It has a very neutral flavor, not sour at all. The fillings taste natural and homemade, the pulled pork was specially amazing. The amount of fat was just enough to make it slide down without overcoming the taste. The garlic and cheese bread was absolutely stunning as well. Size wise we pretty much divided both the pizza and the bread for the two of us which got me pretty full. But if you're used to a 6/7" pizza, you can probably manage one on your own. We ordered take away but the restaurant itself is pretty and cozy and the service is friendly. I recommend this place to anyone looking for natural, homemade and honest pizzas, and I deeply regret I can't eat it anymore.

i don't typically review restaurants, but this is more to get an experience that happened off of my…read morechest. a while ago i went to this restaurant with my partner, and had an extremely unpleasant experience with our server. he was being incredibly passive-aggressive and making backhanded comments. in particular, i didn't manage to finish my meal, and when he came to collect it, he very viciously said he didn't like it when people wasted food. it really ruined the whole day, and i brushed it off at the time, but it still pops into my mind and i feel very embarrassed and even guilty about it. this place does have a lovely atmosphere, the food isn't anything spectacular but its certainly nice, but i feel like i can't in good faith rate it higher than i have because of how foul my experience with the staff was edit: welp. this place is shut now. can see why haha

Good food, lovely staffThey have a large restaurant in an eye-catching orange with plenty of seating, and also a large-ish 'balcony' out the back which is open to be seated at in the warmer months. This 'balcony' overlooks the sea and the beach and has a wonderful view - you can see all the boats/ferries/canoeists and people enjoying the water. MJ's is very kid friendly and also easily accessible for disabled persons. Well recommended!
