I was always a fan of this local Italian and have been going for years. However we have noticed the service, food and whole experience has been going down hill steadily since the restaurant was expanded. My husband stopped going over a year ago and was so put off by the enormous portions, and actually food that he felt wasn't particularly amazing. I carried on going on nights out with girl friends etc. However my friends and I had an awful meal in Nicolino's (Nov '11). Everything from waiting in the door way for 20mins before being actually sitting down, to a long wait for menu's and service of any sort, warm white wine, lamb that was simply not cooked, being grossly over charged for olives and a chef, the owner (Nicolino) who really didn't care (he admitted he'd sent the lamb out in a hurry) was not particuarly sorry and had a very arrogant attitude. He begrudgingly took the 2 lambs off the menu and we all vowed never to set foot inside the place again. Real shame, he is alienating the local people who have supported the restaurant for so long. He needs to cut the menu right down (how can everything be fresh when there is simply pages and pages to choose from?). They need to not be so greedy and take so many bookings, it's better to be nicely full and turn bookings away and do a really good job of the tables you do have booked, rather than try and double book the place until you can't actually look after anyone properly. Go here if you're just after a massive plate of food, but if you're a discerning customer please don't waste your time or money. read more
