The food was excellent, really delicious, and the service was really wonderful. (Our server Tony was awesome!) They have a normal dining area but we preferred the cool lounge area that includes a bar and pool table. They also had several really good vegan options on the menu, and a really nice selection overall including common and uncommon dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we had and had a great time too. So the great food, service, and environment all came together to make a great experience for us. We definitely found that it has really good reviews for a reason, and wanted to add to it. So I say definitely check it out!

We like to try local restaurants around the state and call our operation "Boyz Against Salads (BAS)". We were unsure how busy things would be that night because we knew this restaurant was fairly popular among the locals. I decided to call a few days before and make a reservation for Saturday night. While on the phone, the woman asked me if I wanted to save any cuts of Prime Rib for Saturday. I said absolutely we do. This is not an accommodation that I have seen at another restaurant, but it was a welcomed aspect that more restaurants should take part in. As you pull up to the restaurant, which is actually located on the top of the hill of a highway, you will see an unsuspecting building. There were dozens of cars there at 6:45 that night, which did have us worried, but we were grateful to have made a reservation prior to our arrival. When we entered the building, we were quickly greeted by the hostess. It was clear that our assumption about the level of popularity of this establishment was true. There were dueling parties being hosted within the restaurant. And let me tell you, this is a huge venue. Even with all of the cars outside, there was still plenty of room on the inside. We were quickly provided our table, and a waitress greeted us shortly thereafter. Something that we picked up on right away was how many waitresses were working that night. I have never seen so many in a local restaurant. Perhaps this was due to the party celebrations taking place, but nonetheless, this helped offer superior service to the customers. The waitress we had was extremely cordial, knowledgeable, and a true helper to a few outside fellas. As we scoured the menu, we saw that the Prime Rib meal was only $30 (They offer a smaller cut for only a dollar less.), and it came with a smorgasbord of food. The standard side salad, choice of potato, and bun were expected, but we did not anticipate also being offered a cup of soup and a relish tray. This was also something else we had never seen before by being provided a relish tray. This was brought out extremely fast after our order was taken. And let me tell you what, there was plenty on this relish tray. The picture attached was taken after my buddy and I had devoured a large chunk of it. The rest of our meal came out in a reasonable amount of time. The Prime Rib was cooked perfectly. The au jus had a great salty flavor. The loaded baked potato was wonderful. My buddy and I also had to order some pie and ice cream for dessert. If you have not had the chance to stop at Jerry's Hilltop, I highly recommend that you do so in the near future. This is a fine family establishment that is worth your time. The entire staff will treat you as if you were their own family. For our BAS operation, we keep track of all the restaurants we visit and grade them on five different characteristics (price point, taste, portion size, restaurant ambiance, and plating). We each rate the various characteristics out of five and then add both scores up. The maximum points allowed per characteristic is ten. Jerry's Hilltop came out with a score of 44/50, which currently holds the top spot in our leaderboard. We HIGHLY recommend Jerry's Hilltop.

I walked in and was not disappointed. Clean, tastefully-decorated, professional staff. They sat me down immediately and let me take a peak at the menu, but I knew what I wanted already. The pork ribeye. The chef himself brought it to the table, he was proud of it and he should be! The seasonal vegetable was zucchini, and while most places just boil or steam it and throw it on a plate, here it was perfectly seasoned and cooked, with a nice bite that other establishments never achieve. How refreshing for it to be respected and not turned into a soggy, tragic affair. The pork ribeye was perfectly grilled and served atop a bed of Parmesan risotto. I hail from Italy and know what risotto should be, and honestly I was blown away at how correct it came. Perfect amount of bite, and the chef restrained from throwing in a thousand "flavor enhancers", wisely letting the flavor of aged parmeggiano dictate the profile of the risotto. And on top of that, an unexpected surprise... "cowboy candy" I focused intensely on divining its components: a sugar base and a spicy pepper... could it be agave, turbinado? The waiter informed me of its name and ingredients when I asked, so now I get to make it at home. Italians would never pair such a garnish with their risotto dish, but I don't care, it went perfectly with the pork ribeye. I did not expect to have such a fulfilling culinary experience out here in a small midwestern town. The United States' haute culinary scene really has exploded over the last decade, and I couldn't be happier about it. Next comes the drinks and dessert: A balanced pear cocktail, of which I had two, and a chocolate caramel bread pudding. That bread pudding put most cakes to shame. Soft enough to eat with a spoon but with an ever so slight chew due to its former life as bread. Sweet but not cloying, allowing the cacao to really announce itself. Easily enough for two to share but I indulged myself, I couldn't bear to waste any of it. The waiter himself, a young man with a warm and bold character, came by many times to be assured I wanted for nothing. I left completely satisfied in a way I have not been for many weeks here in the road across the heartland. When I inevitably return to Norfolk, I know where I'll be having dinner.

Again, not a terrible place but not a top-of-the-line Mexican restaurant but it does suffice for a OK meal.
