I did not stay in the hotel but this review is for the restaurant and bar area of the hotel. My group had a table near the window with a great view in the middle afternoon. We came from California and the weather came with us because it was quite lovely without a cloud in the sky. We started with presecco before tea as a celebration. Preseco is sparkling wine but we cannot call it champagne or we might make the French mad as our server explained. Normally this was a traditional for graduation but considering our Oxford Global business program was ending it was time to celebrate. We ordered 6 orders of High tea for I people but it was way too much food. Considering we haven't eating lunch this was a late lunch or dinner. The scones are the best! Sweet butter and jam in a scone is devine. I'm not going to say amazing because I am resisting the urge. The scones hands down beat any butter milk southern biscuit I have had in America. This was shocking considering most English food in my opinion lack flavor and spice. Everything is mostly bread, basic entree and some form of dessert. Personally I prefer focus on the main course with dessert and bread optional. The high tea spread was mostly finger food sandwiches and dessert items. The tea and scones were my favorite part. Just lounging and having a great time with friends made for a great time. I will try again. This location was very affordable and will not break the bank. Cheers!

The hotel was extraordinarily accommodating, ensuring that we had everything we needed. Nearby rooms to be closer to nana and grandpa? Done. Baby cot? Right away. Freezer for breast milk? They were on it. The non-baby-related facets of the experience were excellent as well. The location is right in the center of Oxford and convenient to everything. The hotel restaurant had very good food. Even the artwork was funky and enjoyable. I will absolutely stay here again the next time I'm back in Oxford.

The wine menu showed a broad range of excellent choices from all over the world, which was refreshing compared to the almost all-California wine menu (as you would expect) in San Francisco. Our appetisers and main courses were things of beauty - almost too well presented to want to spoil. But spoil we did, and the fantastic range of flavours left us sated... but still with some room for dessert. A "happy birthday" message was kindly written on to my wife's dessert plate, and we were given after dinner treats along with an extremely reasonable bill. You can either order at the bar, or use their QR code at the tables to order online which was helpful. The pub food was great, the pints kept pouring, and we made some new friends in a very old pub. Come for the history and stay for a proper pub experience. It's definitely worth the trouble of seeking this one out.
