Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids Pittsburgh North - The stylist takes a photo to give to you for their first haircut... So thoughtful!

We took our 3-year-old daughter to Sharkey's Cuts for Kids - Pittsburgh North for her very first…read morehaircut, and it was a truly memorable experience! Booking online was super simple, and when we arrived right on time, there was no wait at all. The environment is very kid-friendly, with bright colors and TVs playing cartoons at each station to help keep little ones engaged and distracted. Our daughter was a little nervous at first, but her stylist, Mindi, was absolutely wonderful. She was kind, patient, and took the time to make the experience feel extra special. Mindi really helped our daughter feel comfortable, which made a huge difference. They even offered her a mini manicure (which my daughter turned down), but the thoughtful gesture didn't go unnoticed. While I did feel the price was a bit steep for a kids' haircut, the overall experience made it worth it--especially for such an important "first." I'm hopeful that maybe they'll offer coupons in the future to make visits more affordable. That said, they seem to be one of only a few dedicated kids' haircut place in the North Hills, and they clearly know how to make it fun and positive for young children. Our daughter left with a big smile and a great memory, and she's already talking about going back. Highly recommend for a first haircut or any young child who needs a gentle, kid-focused approach!

I normally don't write reviews, but after hearing what my wife experienced at this salon, I felt…read morethe need to share. No customer--especially a new mom holding her child--should be treated the way she was. The day before her appointment, she received an email from Sharkey's confirming her appointment with Mindi. Shortly afterward, she received a strange cancellation email for an appointment with "Ella" that contained none of her correct appointment information. Since she had never booked with anyone named Ella and still had her confirmation with Mindi, she reasonably assumed the cancellation email had been sent in error. The next morning, she got our baby ready, packed everything he needed, drove 20-25 minutes during rush hour, and arrived on time for our son's appointment, only to find the doors locked. A man came to the door, and she said, " hi, we're here for my son's hair appointment". He replied, "unfortunately we had to call and cancel all of the appointments really last minute because of a plumbing issue." She said, "aw, man - I wasn't aware. I didn't receive a call. This really stinks." He invited her inside and tried looking up her appointment. He then insisted, "well we called everyone" and "come to think of it, when I called your number, I spoke to someone that was extremely rude and not understanding of the situation." She explained, "I can assure you that was not me. I just got my son all ready and drove 25 minutes to our first appointment at your location, would you please consider comping our next appointment for the inconvenience?" He replied, "no, I'm not gonna do that. Things happen. An attempt was made to call you and the person on the phone was really rude." She again said, "well, unfortunately that was not me." He responded, "well maybe someone answered your phone." She offered, "sir, would you like to look at my call log? I promise I am not lying to you." He then said, "well I spoke to a woman and she was very rude and said I had the wrong number." She replied, "well it sounds like the number may have been entered in wrong when you called and you spoke to someone different than me." He answered, "well, that could be it potentially." She asked, "ok. Well, if I'm going to book at this location again, can you please tell me what the discount will be if I come back?" He said, "I would do 50% off." She thanked him and asked, "that would be great. Thank you- when do you think the plumbing will be fixed and we can rebook." He replied, "Next week. Where do you live." After she told him the area where we live, he laughed at her and said, "hahahaha that's not 25 minutes away." She responded, "sir, I'm a new mom. I got my baby all ready and packed this morning to come to this appointment that was cancelled without my knowledge, and laughing in my face about how long you think my drive is is really unkind." His response was, "WOW, I WAS MAKING A JOKE BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I THINK IT'S BEST YOU LEAVE." He then came out from behind the counter and ushered her toward the exit from behind while she was holding our son, making her feel very uncomfortable. As her husband, what bothers me most isn't just that the appointment had to be canceled. Things like plumbing issues happen. It's the way she was treated afterward. She was accused of being "rude" over a phone call that clearly wasn't with her, laughed at after spending time getting our infant ready and driving to the salon, and ultimately asked to leave while holding our baby--all without a sincere apology or any accountability for the obvious breakdown in communication. This was supposed to be our son's first visit to this location, a place that is thought to be happy and geared towards children, and instead it became an experience that left my wife feeling dismissed, frazzled, and uncomfortable. Needless to say, our family will not be returning.

I'd been to this salon three to four times in the past and had my hair cut and colored by owner…read moreJimmy. I stopped going there because he was too expensive. The color I loved. The cuts were okay. After finally getting a raise at work and not having gotten my hair done in months due to Covid 19 shutting down all salons, I was desperate to get my hair done. I've been a platinum blond for over 20 years and had no intentions of not being one anymore. I ended up making an appointment with Brittany who could fit me in sooner than owner Jimmy. The girl who made the appointment said Brittany was good with blonds and recommended her. Having walked in with platinum hair, but large roots, I made it VERY clear that I wanted a very light blond color. Bright, light blond. I said no yellow and no orange. After getting home, taking my mask off and getting a good look in my bathroom mirror I was beyond shocked. I wasn't blond at all!! My hair was brown. And an ugly brown at that. I called immediately and asked the girl to please have Jimmy call me as soon as he could. I was in tears when I told the receptionist that my hair wasn't blond at all and looked brown. The owner Jimmy called back hours later and had a nasty attitude from the start. He refused to fix it or even let me come in so he could look at it. I was speechless. Then he told me to find another salon. He added that he saw it while I was there and it looked 'damn blond' to him. He then proceeded to tell me that it was my fault because my roots were huge (All salons were shut down for months due to Covid 19, so that was certainly out of my control). Then he told me to wash it a bunch of times over the next week and it would lighten up. Jimmy even said that I 'always had a problem' and complained about his coloring of my hair in the past. That was a complete lie. I never complained to him about a service. I had ALWAYS been super nice and cool when I had gone there and always tipped 30%. I even bought products there instead of going 100 feet up the street to Ulta and using a coupon for the same stuff. Jimmy had every excuse in the book to avoid accepting responsibility for what his stylist did. He even went as far to say that he and Brittany were the two best stylists in the city and Headspace was the best salon in the city. I took pictures of the mess Brittany created and sent them to the owner of another salon I know. Unfortunately, her salon was still closed or else I would have gone to her from the start. She agreed that my hair was not blond at all. She called it bronze. She advised me to file a dispute with my credit card since he refused to fix it. I filed the dispute and lost because the charge was found to be valid and PNC is powerless to continue to fight the salon because it's a 'quality' of service issue. They advised to file against the salon in small claims court. So the salon gets to keep $300 for a sloppy cut and orange brown color. Stay away from this salon. Any owner that is so cocky to talk to a client like they're garbage and refuse to fix a clients hair is not worth people's hard earned money. He can keep the $300. He obviously needs it more than I do. If you're looking for a great salon with a talented stylist, go to Lavish and ask for Amanda. She is the owner and fixed my hair the best she could do with out causing more damage to my hair. She said getting me back to platinum will take time to protect the integrity of my hair which I understand and appreciate She was incredibly cool and understanding and did a beautiful job. Update - It's a waste of my time to respond to the litany of excuses posted by owner. The pictures speak for themselves. Save your money an go elsewhere.
