I must admit that I was apprehensive to visit our local Ashley Furniture Home Store. I remember when it was built and how excited our community was to have one. However, the ratings and the reviews of the store quickly tanked. From the customer service to the delivery, it was just crap! Now my favorite home store closed down several years ago and it was finally becoming the time to upgrade my living room furniture. With 3 kiddos, 2 big dogs, and company from time to time...furniture can only handle so much. Not to mention that I wanted a refresh! So after turning to Pinterest and browsing several hundred sofas, I found 2 that I really loved. I hadn't planned on purchasing from Ashley, but I was happy to know that I could walk in their store and see and touch the sofas that I considered purchasing online. And here's where things get interesting. I was immediately greeted by a young lady named Devon. And after telling her what sofas I was looking for she took me right to them. She was very engaging by asking what I specifically liked about the sofas, etc. And after talking for a while, she began making recommendations of sofas that I should consider looking at. Of course, curiosity got the best of me and we began to go through looking at all the options. But the 1st sofa she recommended WAS really beautiful!. It was a mash-up of the 2 sofas I originally was looking at. I was kind of a tough sale in that I told her the reviews were crappy for the store and that I didn't have any interest at all in buying from them. She was very gracious! She kept reassuring me that the store was working really hard to change that perception and that if I reconsidered she would be there to assure me every step of the way. So I left...no sofa in hand and returned several times to revisit the sofa she recommended again and again. Being true to my sales person (which I believe is good business practice), I let every sales person that approached me know that I was working with Devon. She was the only reason why I kept returning to the store. I really wanted my sofa before Christmas and I really wanted to trust her reassuring me that it would be a good purchase. So...I finally bit the bullet and made the purchase from Devon. And I cannot tell you how happy I am! Devon is the reason I purchased that sofa. It was a beautiful sofa and I was scared, but I trusted her. She told me things may not be perfect, but that she would make sure that anything wrong would be made right. We opted to pick up the sofa ourselves so that we could inspect it while still at the store and leave it there if it had any issues. I would recommend this to anyone as it saves a lot of hassle. Now as far as quality...I know the difference between quality craftsmanship and highly produced manufactured material. My expectations simply match the price of the product. When we first bought our home, I had to run out and buy a high end sofa (a youthful mistake considering my kiddos were little). To my defense though, the quality of the fabric, the density of the wood, and the closely girded springs made that sofa last for the 10 years we had it. Plus, it was still going strong when I sold it on Craigslist. It was simply too big for the space I had available and I grew weary of the fabric as my taste was changing. It was going to cost almost the same amount of money I paid for it to reupholster it. The fabric is lovely on the sofa I purchased from Ashley, the wood is a pretty standard grade for big box furniture stores, and the springs are a lot further apart which means they probably won't maintain their strength and firmness for as long. All of this suggest that this furniture will probably only last as long as the additional warranty I purchased. And I'm okay with that. I additionally bought 2 recliners and I could easily buy all this furniture all over again, twice, with what I paid for my first couch alone. I actually wish I had went this route first so there wouldn't be so much guilt associated with getting rid of my expensive couch. I didn't anticipate my taste change so soon and so drastically for that matter (thank you Pinterest ). I plan to go back to Ashley to look for dining room chairs. I hope to work with Devon if she is still there. If she's not...I don't know how I'll feel. Company's that have terrible reviews should really have programs in place to search out and keep their quality employees. The customer service aspect is really important to me as I feel it's a dying art. Devon told me that it's only the people who have had bad experiences that write the reviews. She said it would be helpful if the people who actually had good experiences would do so also. She really changed how I view reviews and the businesses associated with them. If it were my business I would be like Devon and encourage people to write reviews...especially if they've had a good experience. Thanks Devon! read more

I don't even know where to begin with this post I have had nothing but a bad experience with the Ashley store in Columbia MO. We bought a reclining couch and two matching rocker recliners from them when we moved here last year. The first thing that happened was a tear in the bottom of one end of my couch. I called and set up an apt for a tech to come and look to see what needed to be done to repair it. Well that was in January 2015 it has taken all this time to actually get the piece of leather for the repair and many many phone calls to actually get it ordered. Every Time I called to find out why nobody showed up for an apt they said there was nvr an apt scheduled so I started over and kept rescheduling. Then on my husbands recliner the leather started pealing like paint does. I had never seen or heard of any leather pealing to another color. It is very noticeable so I took pictures on my phone and went to the store. When I arrived I was told there isn't a store manager there is other types of manager but not one over the store? They had no phone numbers of anyone higher up that I could speak with about the issues I had been having with my furniture. They said I had to have a tech come out and look before anything else could be done. Once again it took several calls to actually get a tech to come out and each time I called there was nothing in their computer that I had called and one of the girls in the store told me she had put in the order herself the day I went to the store. Finally my pieces of leather has arrived and had an apt for a couple of days ago to have the tech come out and repair them. when nobody showed up or called I called yet again and was told the same story I wasn't on the list sigh so I have rescheduled again. This is absolutely insane come to find out my $3000.00 furniture is only leather where u touch the rest is some bull crap plastic or whatever. It has to be the thinnest leather I have ever seen plus with the pealing of the chair I don't even want it anymore because I'm sure one day the other could do the same thing. I have a 5 yr warranty but look how they stand by their warranties I don't want to take the chance of my couch or chair having the same problem 6 or more years down the road. This is the absolute worst furniture buying experience I have ever had I would not recommend anyone buying from that store. They tell u whatever u want to hear to get u to buy from them and then they could care less once they get your money. They have no customer service to help you with any problem. They have no store manager or no general manager it seems that the techs have all control on what happens with your furniture. Oh the best of all is the reason the leather is changing colors is someone must have sat in it without a shirt can u believe that? They say it happens all the time. One of there sales pitch for the extended warranty is they said if we didn't use it for 5 years we would get a refund for the amount of the warranty. You would think with a brand new set of what was suppose to be real leather we wouldn't need an extended warranty. In fact we bought it thinking it would last us many,many years. Sure wish I would have know all this crap before we purchased it. I wasn't going to put a star but it made me give them one star rating just so I could post this review. Ashley furniture still has not replaced this sofa. It has not been used once! If you call, they say they won't do anything. If you ask for their supervisor, that person will tell you the same thing. Then you ask for their supervisor and get the same response. How about sending me to someone or having someone call me who WILL make this right?? The last one, Patti, in the claim escalation department kept saying "Have a blessed day." 1) YOU, Patti, could make it a blessed day by doing what's right and stop taking advantage of customers. 2) How do you look yourself in the mirror as a Christian AND ironically, as a supervisor of the ESCALATION Department? Obviously, there's a need for an escalation department because you have SO MANY COMPLAINTS. You know what's going on. Personally, I would work for a company with morals, which is why I worked in Pediatrics. We are telling everyone we know. We shared it with our neighborhood online community, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family. We tell anyone we come into contact with. There was a survey that showed for every person you told, they told 10 others. It's also true that it's easier to keep a customer than to get a new one. I AM going to do my part to make sure you get less repeat and new customers. I DO NOT want anyone else to be taken advantage of by your shady business practices. All I'm asking is that you exchange this awful sofa for what we want. Apparently, YOU don't want it either because it's awful. read more

The furniture is nice, sturdy and very pretty but the staff is horrible. They are not very helpful, from the moment we walked in the door we was treated very rudely. Didn't try very hard to make a sale. Nothing is in Stock to take home the day you pick it out. After a manager approved a sooner delivery date the lady that sets everything up, takes the form of payment and such got very snippy about it. Went to pay and with very much attitude and the rudest facial expression she holds the card up saying " I have to make sure there is even money on this first" very loudly hands it to a worker saying the same thing with the same attitude to then be told there is in fact money well over the purchase price. We got our furniture delivered at 9pm, being told 5-8 was our window for delivery, a call 5 minutes to arriving asking if we still wanted our furniture . Poor communication on all parts. they had the phone number and address wrong on file, while in the store we told 1 guy 3 times a lady 2 and a manager 1... Please with furniture but not with service and treatment . The manager Josh did get the delivery moved up and he was respectful about it, I do have to give him props for being to nice and helpful. read more

Any simple Google search of Ashley will show the same scathing reviews. Ashley is the most evil company I have ever had to deal with. Their lack of integrity and apathy toward their paying customers is infuriating. They are nothing but fraudulent thieves. They will never deliver your furniture but will gladly take your money and ignore you after making a sale. They will not take any responsibility for their lazy employees or their mistakes. Will, the store manager, took no care in trying to replace my missing furniture that was never delivered. He told me he would order a new one, and never did. Then continues to ignore any attempt of mine to contact and resolve the issue, yet I am still paying for a piece of furniture I never received. Funny how that works. You cannot get in contact with anyone that is competent at Ashley. Any phone call will simply get you to a helpless call center. It is impossible to get in contact with their corporate office. Their CEO, Todd Wanek, is a fraud and a bigot. Do not ever do business with Ashley. You're better off digging a couch out of a landfill. At least then you will actually receive one. read more

If I could leave a review without giving any stars, I would. That's how lacking in integrity I believe Ashley is, specifically the Columbia location. My daughter ordered a couch and when it was finally delivered, the two "delivery" guys refused to carry it up the stairs. They left it in the building entryway completely blocking the door. After much back and forth with the store, the guys come back, load the couch, and leave. They never brought it back!!! After a YEAR of trying to get this issue taken care of, my daughter is expected to pay $1000 for a couch that was never delivered to her apartment and supposedly the store has no record of the location of the couch. We have done everything short of hiring a lawyer to fight this, and the only reason we haven't done that is we haven't had a response from any we've tried contacting. So her choices are to let this go on her credit as a bad account or to pay for a couch she never received. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and find a couch from ANY OTHER store. You will be glad you did! read more

Still super helpful. Then I returned later the same day around 5:15. Again, helpful and courteous with a smile. No pressure selling just selling me what I needed. I will at times take my business elsewhere if the salesperson is overly aggressive. Trevor was great! Sales Associate, Chadwick, Columbia, MO, was professional yet very friendly and knowledgable. We are furnishing a room that is awkward in size and layout, to say the least. While he gave us enough space to decide on which purchase was right for us, he was available to answer our questions and took the time to sketch out our room, giving us options on different floor plans. We have gotten a few things at Ashley Furniture before, so when we decided to purchase a new bedroom outfit, we went back to the Columbia store. Amy was a joy to work with, she gave all the information needed to purchase a lovely and restful outfit. We couldn't be more pleased!!! I just recently purchased a sectional from Ashley and the customer service there was exceptional! I can't remember the guy's name that helped me that day, but he was great! I had my young daughter with me and he was so patient with us and very sweet to my kiddo. I ended up buying some other things along with our couch and he was very helpful with everything. Evan was VERY helpful. I was fearful I would be very indecisive but he made this process extremely smooth. Found a couch, coffee table, and end tables for my new living room! Very exciting!
