My ob was not on call that evening (sad, because he's great!), but I had the privilege of receiving care from Dr. lao! My first baby I got the epidural, but this one I was hoping to go unmedicated. MAN is that so much easier said than done! As I lingered for awhile at 9/10 centimeters, I was becoming more and more tired, scared, and indecisive on my next steps for bringing my son into the world. Every contraction made me less confident that I could do it, but Dr Lao was one of the 3 in the room who reassured me and helped me through! My biggest praise has to go to her CALM CALM demeanor. What a difference that made! She was incredibly patient with my indecisiveness, never pressed me for what she wanted over what I wanted, but also (so) kindly gave her recommendations and gave me both the space to think things through and all the options before me. She also took great care and extra steps in physically delivering my son, and honored my wish to delay cord clamping until the cord turned white. Never with a hint of annoyance either. Thank you Dr. Lao!!

If you plan to have a c-section exclusively and get aesthetic treatments after. Cons: After going several times, I realized this office can be disengenuous, and felt like they wanted your money more than the care. The care provided felt fake. You can tell by how bougie they look. They promote a lot of superficial services like body sculpting after pregnancy, vitamin shots, etc. You get charged for everything. And the front office doesn't always let you know this until you get sent a bill in the mail. They also would do everything they can to keep you in office, including trying to get you to schedule exclusively with their ultrasound technician, who is only there on Tuesdays. For my last ultrasound, instead of being flexible and scheduling me earlier or recommending another place for imaging, the front desk made me wait 2 weeks out for the next available appointment. By then, the tech said my baby was breech. I'm new to babies and didn't realize what that meant. I thought it meant there was time to flip him and that they would talk to me about ways to unbreech him. They otherwise just told me he was breech and did not elaborate. They also scheduled me with the nurse practitioner who also had trainees look at me without talking to me first. You can only ask so many questions. NP didn't mention anything about what a breech baby meant. Fast forward two weeks at 38 weeks. I see the doctor and she says, baby is breech and almost immediately wants to schedule a c-section. Like, whoa, I researched online and some articles say the doctor typically tells you these things starting week 30 give or take. But they went straight to the c-section. Honestly, I'm upset this was brought up so late into the pregnancy, as it could have given me more preparation time... Even mentally would have liked to have been prepared. Here, I only had two weeks to figure it out, and did not even know you had to do it before week 39..! I wasn't going to jeopardize the health of my baby and the surmounting stress of delivering so we went ahead with the scheduled C-section. But they don't care about what your outcomes are, they only care about the money. And it's really obviously that a big surgically procedure is going to pay them out way more than a natural delivery. The doctor did everything she could to convince me how good the surgery was going to be. I told her my concerns, and my biggest was the recovery that is needed with any surgery takes time. It really felt like my concerns were brushed under the rug. Also, if I wanted her to answer questions, I needed to take my partner with me, otherwise, the doctor rushed me out the door. Their office also sucks at communication. I should have taken the first red flag when I was billed for gender testing, but they chose an out-of-network lab. Not only that, they didn't tell me it was out of network. I still had to pay. And the biggest issue came when they filled out the pfml paperwork and for my work, and I had my pfml time reduced despite having a c-section. Knowing they will probably just charge me again, I didn't bother, and made sure that my time in their office after delivery was done. Months later, I'm still billed, for the hospital procedure, and other than the surgery, doctor literally only looked at me for like 5 minutes and I'm being billed, $1000+. On top of that, they upsold a silicone strip that's literally only 6 inches, and it's $80; newsflash, me: it's a fraction of the price online. RIP. I ended up calling their office one last time to close any outstanding bills, and I really wanted to laugh in their face when the admin said if I don't I wouldn't be able to come back. LOL! The assumption that I cared enough to do that. I just care about my credit score. I'm not coming back ever. Overall, I don't recommend this office for lack of sincere service, and very bad communication. For something so big like a pregnancy, I'm really disappointed and I really want to kick myself for screening this office better, and went somewhere else. This office just happened to be in the right area and the hospital that I wanted, but could have just chosen just about anybody else.

After a four-year fertility journey with many ups and (mostly) downs, I was very anxious throughout my pregnancy about something going wrong. I also had significant, daily physical discomfort (including nausea throughout all nine months of gestation!). From my husband's and my very first appointment, we were impressed with Dr. Kurtzman's office. They were able to schedule us around our travel plans for our first visit. The scheduling/administrative staff members are very efficient and great at getting back with patients swiftly about both scheduling matters and medical questions requiring the doctor's input. They effectively multi-task and are very invested in positive patient experiences. When you call the office, you speak to a real human located inside the building! No automated phone system, portal-only care, or extra hoops to jump through blocking you from receiving timely care. When I once needed to speak to the doctor about a time-sensitive matter on a weekend, I was able to promptly contact him by phone without any issues. The physical office itself is spacious, impeccably maintained, and beautifully furnished. Medical and nursing staff, including the sonographers and personnel monitoring non-stress tests (NSTs), are good-natured and seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs, expressing happiness and excitement when monitoring the baby and a desire to meet the baby once they are "on the outside!" In addition, Dr. Kurtzman is clearly an expert! He addressed my many questions thoroughly during each visit, and with empathy and caring. He is passionate about the work he does (including his research contributions to the field), and it really shows, having a significant positive impact on the quality of care patients receive. I always felt I was in good hands and never a burden. He took my complaints seriously and prescribed several medications to ease my discomfort. His office sent prescriptions to the pharmacy swiftly and effectively communicated with my regular obstetrician's office, as well as my daughter's future pediatrician. Furthermore, when I was at risk of pre-term birth, he increased my medications, monitoring, and physical restrictions, additionally ordering steroid injections in the event of an early delivery. It all paid off, and my daughter and I had a smooth induction at 39 weeks, on the day I wanted. She was born healthy and well. In a nutshell, the quality of care I received at OCMFM was significantly better than my experiences at other OB offices, with my family members and me feeling supported as individuals in more of a personalized, human-centered way that is hard to come by in these days of AI assistants, online portals, and low-contact care. I would highly recommend their services to anyone with a high-risk pregnancy who wants to feel respected, valued, and attentively cared for as a patient.

The team is so thorough, listening to every concern compassionately . And Dr. K, well he is the absolute best. After being under his care from 15 weeks onward, I finally delivered my baby girl at 37 weeks. I am so grateful to OCMFM, for helping me through. You won't regret adding this team to your pregnancy journey.

However, he is really good so he deserves this review! As a registered nurse who has worked in hospitals as well as outpatient clinics, I can say that he has to be one of the best doctors I have spoken with. He has the best bedside manner and is extremely knowledgable! We just finished our first visit with him and he was so patient, kind, and very understanding of what a first time mom is going through. I was contemplating on going to him or one of the bigger OB/GYN groups in Irvine and am so glad I opted in to have Dr. Chang be our OB for my first pregnancy. His front desk answers their phones really quickly so you know you'll be able to schedule an appointment very easily (I had called another very large OB office and didn't get a callback until 2 days later)! He is definitely a hidden gem here! I highly recommend him! I encourage you to look for an OB like him- one that takes the time to get to know you and answers your questions. If you are like me, a first timer who has no clue about anything maternity/prenatal, he is a perfect doctor for you! I absolutely highly recommend him!

During my first pregnancy, I was abruptly told by the ultrasound tech that there was no heartbeat and that I was miscarrying, in a very rushed and insensitive manner. What followed was weeks of poor communication, delayed lab results, unanswered calls and portal messages, and lack of guidance during an extremely emotional time. After being told my only option was medication because a D&C would take weeks, the medication failed, and no one returned my calls when I asked what to do next. I sought a second opinion, which confirmed retained tissue and recommended a D&C immediately--something that should have been done much earlier. Despite repeated attempts to reach the office, I received no response. I ultimately ended up in the ER with symptoms of infection and had to find another doctor to perform a D&C. I didn't hear back from Dr. Broad's office until after the procedure, nearly three weeks later. The lack of communication and urgency was unacceptable, especially given the emotional and physical risks involved. As a nurse, I've seen a lot in healthcare, and this experience left me feeling helpless and unheard. I would not recommend this practice.
