I saw a post on Reddit about someone having a bad experience with Dr. Wells because she didn't feel cared for. I can see how she may not be for everyone but I have no doubt in her ability to provide proper care. She may come off cold but I never once felt like she didn't care. As annoying as it was, she ordered an extra glucose test for me so we knew what my baseline would be. Her threshold is also higher so I had to do the longer test after failing the first one. I did end up with gestational diabetes the second time I tested so it ended up being the right choice. Most importantly, she was there the day I went into labor even though she had PTO. According to my nurse, she prefers to deliver her own patients which I'm learning is not the norm. She came in to check on me the day after also. If you're looking for an OB to feel like your friend she may not be the best fit, but if you want someone who takes your care seriously, she's the right person, read more

Great knowledgeable doctor. Puts your health, safety and your baby's safe arrival at highest standards. Very professional and direct communication. I'm blessed to have her as my OB as I had few complications (fall, gestational diabetes). Dr. Wells and her nurses always called me if I had any questions and office staff is friendly. I delivered at saddleback and all the nurses said Dr. Wells delivers all her patients herself. On my delivery day she was working the night shift, had whole office day and still showed up for my delivery between 7pm to 10pm and guided me through every step. Dr. Wells is truly the best OB! She is very attentive, super knowledgeable and detail oriented. I am currently pregnant with my second and have her again currently as my OB. My experience with her for my daughter was beyond amazing and I did have a c-section as well and my recovery was great. Her priority is your health and the baby and that's what matters most to me. Given Dr. Wells busy schedule, she always comes into the room informed with where you left off from the prior visit and where you are at in your pregnancy. She is always very thorough and knowledgeable. She really puts your health and baby's safety as a priority. She will do extra testing if needed and is truly very caring. Dr. Wells and her nurses always have called me if they had any questions or need to follow up with me. Dr. Wells always takes the time to answer any of our questions at all of our visits. I absolutely LOVE Dr. Carla Wells!! I am so fortune to have found her! I have been to multiple doctors and all were just okay. She is so knowledgeable and caring. If I message her Friday evening she will call or message me within 24hrs! Does she even have a weekend off?! She's addressed my concerns with high BP and now with my lab work insurance billing issues. She's just always on top of it! Absolutely amazing!! She sends me to labs immediately if there is a concern. She sent me to labor and delivery because I had swollen hands and high BP to rule out preeclampsia. I'm 22 weeks and she's been awesome. She answers my questions straight forward. The wait isn't bad usually. Her direct staff cal me or message me right away for any updates or concerns. I know I have found the right doctor to delivery our son. Highly highly recommend her!! Only negative comment I can add is when I have called the office after hours the nurse that answers is pretty bad. She's not knowledgeable and will ask unnecessary questions or give advice that's really not relevant. But that's part of memorial care and not the doctor. read more

I can't really review Dr. Wells for her patient interaction although I waited 6 months for my appointment- however, her office canceled it as she was going to be unavailable and so offered me an appointment another 6 months out. The physician has a responsibility when she accepts appointments and patients. So Dr. Wells deserves this review. I have physicians in my family and no physician in my family- although highly sought after, ever treated patients this way- if they had to cancel- they fit that patient in quickly. DO NOT GO HERE!! The Dr is ok. The staff is totally incompetent!!!! I put off having a routine exam done because the first one was such a nightmare and they ended up charging me the whole tab instead of my insurance so i was traumatize from that. This time was even WORSE. To avoid that from happening again, when i called to make the appointment i gave my new insurance info over the phone and told them make sure you confirm you take my insurance. When I arrive at the appointment I handed the front desk my insurance and said make sure you update it. I sent several messages through "My Chart" website telling them make sure you have the right insurance. They schedule me for a blood test, a mammogram, an ultrasound as well as that visit and billed them ALL, to my OLD INSURANCE. What a total mess. Luckily its the same insurance just a different Group and the amounts are not big, but they should be fully covered and i should have no out of pocket costs. The office manager stopped returning my emails. Hasn't bothered to call me either even after i've sent 3 emails and mentioned i've received notices about going to into collection. I've just paid it so i dont have do with them or any of this crap anymore. This is so absolutely insanely ridiculous. I will never go here again for any future and definitely don't recommend any to them!!! read more

Here is my story. It's long but if you want a full review of Dr. Wells I would read this... Being pregnant, I originally I went to a different OBGYN whom I felt answered my questions very generically and always rushed me out the door before I could remember any more questions. This doctor also told me she would only deliver me if she was on call the day I deliver. Keep in mind, this doctor is highly respected in Orange County. Being frustrated, I switched at 23 weeks pregnant to Dr. Wells. The first time I called Dr. Wells office to make an appointment they were about 3 weeks out. Obviously she's in demand. To me that's a good thing. I don't want a doctor with little experience and that no one wants. Wait time was about 30 minutes, same as my previous OB. First time meeting Dr. Wells she spent about 45 minutes with me. Went over all my records and even my prenatal vitamins. Long story short she told me I was deficient on iron and had a few contaminated urine tests. I was kinda shocked. my previous OB never told me to take iron nor asked if my prenatal contained iron let alone tell me I tested deficient for it! But Dr. Wells is unlike most doctors. She is thorough and reasons like this is why I switched to her. Then wishful thinking, I asked the chance of her delivering me. She said unless she's out of town or had prior obligations, there's a good chance she would be my delivering doctor. For any new mom to be, your OBGYN actually delivering you is major and doesn't happen often! Fast forward to my baby's birth, I was rushed to the hospital after my water broke at 2:30am. My fiancé just flew out on business a few hours before and I was so scared as I was waiting for him to catch a return flight. I got admitted at Hoag almost instantly. I told them please let Dr. Wells know. The nurse said they will try but informs me Dr. Wells had a very late, long and rough night and literally left a few hours ago. They told me the on call OBGYN is great too. Just my luck right? As I'm crying like a baby from contractions waiting for my epidural, in walks Dr. Wells smiling, asking me how I'm doing. I was shocked! Poor women, she probably hadn't slept in god knows how long and me, her patient of only a few months was worth it enough for her to come in when she could have easily declined. From day 1 I've told Dr. Wells I didn't want a c-section unless my life was in danger (Dr. Wells always joked back saying her either, so don't make it get to that point). Now fast forward into labor. It was very late in the day. The nurse informs me since I was pushing for almost 4 hours and my blood pressure was so high I'm automatically considered medium risk and if we didn't get this baby out soon we were probably looking at a c-section. I was horrified. But I was so tired, hadn't eaten in over 24 hours, and almost to the point where I didn't care anymore. I felt defeated and drained. I just wanted my baby delivered safety. Maybe 5 minutes after the nurse tells me a c-section might be in my future, in walks Dr. Wells and she was like nope mama, we're getting this baby out, so do this this and this. Keep in mind I didn't take 1 pregnancy class so I had no idea on breathing techniques, position, nothing. The nurses and Dr. Wells had to couch me through it all which isn't an easy task. I was a first time mom and had no clue what I was doing but I was blessed to have such a great medical team. Long story short, Dr. Wells positioned me and told me what to do and got my baby out vaginally in about 15 minutes. Such a relief and so incredibly thankful. Overall, I could not ask for a better doctor. Instead of being like most doctors and rushing me out the door, Dr. Wells takes her time and makes sure you understand the answer and actually takes the time to look over all your tests and screens to ensure you're getting the care you need. Yes, maybe there was like once or twice where I had a 45-minute wait for an appointment. But those that complain about wait time, please remember, it's probably because a first time scared out of their mind mom to be like me is asking her 100 stupid and repetitive questions. read more

Yikes, horrible experience. I don't think I've ever seen a more disorganized, chaotic mess of a medical facility. No urine cups for samples, 2 hour wait,redundant paperwork that was absolutely pointless (I was asked what my insurance was 5 different times on 5 different forms). Asked me to sign a HIPAA policy and they had no idea where it was or what it said? You want me to sign a receipt of acknowledgement for something I never received? Nice Patient's Rights violation. MA's talking crap on patients in front of them. I saw multiple people be turned away from their appt and they tried to turn me away as well. I waited for 2 hours to see the Dr. I was told I was supposed to upload ALL records to MyChart at the start of my appt. I'm sorry, what? Isn't it your job to get my medical record after I sign a release? No warning or notice before hand and they tried to not see me because I didn't have my entire medical record, I've never heard this before in my life. I haven't been that anxious or overwhelmed since the last time I was at the DMV. Not to mention the bedside manner, or lack thereof, from the OB left me feeling more traumatized. I've never seen worse clinical notes in a treatment summary, all information about me and my history that I spent hours completing were not inputted. Instead, it reflects my history from 16 years old that is not accurate. Actually humorous how awful the entire experience was. I have had Dr Wells for years and she is the best gynecologist I've ever had! I give her credit for saving my life when I had a positive breast biopsy! She sent me to Dr Link at breast link which definitely saved my life and got rid of my stage one triple negative BC ! Recently she performed a laparoscopic hysterectomy on me due to excessively heavy periods and it was easiest surgery to recover from! Moving soon to Florida and will have to leave her! Second baby, and cant stop saying how thankful i am to find dr wells. My first baby was delivered by a different OB, unfortunately horrible experience, the worst. previous ob not only did she not deliver my baby but never followed up while we were in the hospital. This second pregnancy i was so scared, with really bad panic attacks thinking about my previous experience and going through this pandemic did not help. Dr wells kept reassuring me that everything would be fine and she will be there for me. I had my baby 5/27 delivered by dr wells and she stoped by everyday while i was in the hospital to do a check up, to make sure everything was okay, which was very nice to know she was here with us. Dr wells and monica made this pregnancy and delivery the best experience ever, cant stop saying how thankful i am to them. Pros: The office and medical staff were friendly. The office staff was quick and efficient in completing documents for my employer and insurance providers. Cons: I felt as though I was a high risk pregnancy (40 years old, pregnant with twins, IVF patient) and Dr Wells made it almost impossible to get a note for work restrictions. Dr Wells was more concerned with the possibility of my employer taking legal action if she were to write a dr note for a modified work load and I were unable to perform my job function than she was with my physical and mental health. I assured Dr Wells that modified work loads were common practice for pregnant mothers as I work in a highly stressful and demanding field. On multiple occasions I had to wait 45 minutes to see Dr Wells when I had scheduled appointments. Each time I met with Dr Wells, she failed to review my file as she repeatedly asked me the same questions that did not apply to me. read more

The best experience that I have ever had at any hospital by far! In particular, Dr. Carla Wells was the most exceptional, knowledgeable, and caring doctor that I have ever had...and it wasn't even close! Absolutely the BEST doctor all-around and I am very fortunate to have had her in my life. We had a very complicated placenta previa pregnancy and she went out of her way on her personal time to arrange appointments and check up on us. That is so rare these days and helped us throughout the tough times. She not only told us exactly how everything would most likely play out months ahead of time, but she also planned everything the day of the surgery perfectly to make sure my wife pulled through just fine. She was totally exceptional with the epitome of professionalism! Thank you again for your amazing and top-notch care for the second time doctor. Thank you for the guidance you have given us during my wife second pregnancy's. Dr. wells made the pregnancy period so easy and stress free. Even though our second baby was 3 week pre, Dr. wells guided us through the whole process without worrying about a thing and she was there anytime we needed her. We asked her to be the delivery doctor (4/5/2020), so she was their ever though it was her day off. Please note that NOT many doctors are welling to work on their day off for their patients, but Dr. Carla did care. Her facility is super nice in Irvine and her staff also super nice and friendly. I give two stars because yes she did deliver me a healthy baby girl. Other than that my care wasn't so great. I often felt rushed and neglected during office visits. I had dizzy spells during my first trimester which I told her about. She said I probably have an inner ear problem. I later learned that this is completely normal during the first trimester due to increased blood volume. I do not have an inner ear problem like she suggested. Then in my second trimester I developed gallstones. I did not have gallstones before I got pregnant but the pregnancy caused them do to the increased progesterone. A gallstone attack is extremely painful and most people end up in the ER. I had no idea what was going on but knew something was terribly wrong. I explained all my symptoms of horribly painful gallstone attacks to her on multiple visits. She told me that every pregnancy is different and brushed me off every time. I went undiagnosed for 4 months before I finally decided to see a gastroenterologist on my own. He diagnosed me immediately and was shocked that my OBGYN didn't figure it out sooner because he said this commonly happens to pregnant women. Basically she didn't seem to care about anything I told her and didn't seem to want to provide me with anything other than bare minimum care. Then came the delivery...she wanted to induce me at 41 weeks. She chose to give me a device called a balloon. She had never talked about this with me before or even mentioned it. Had I know what it was I would've declined. It was an excruciatingly painful way to manually force the cervix open. Needless to say this wasn't necessary and I was put through a way more painful birth than was necessary because of her decision to make my labor go quicker and more convenient for her schedule. I was later told by a nurse who's worked with Dr. Wells than she likes to deliver babies on her schedule and will push moms to deliver faster via pitocen or balloon to move things along quicker so she can get to her office visits. Personally I think this is a horrible way to practice medicine as the patient's well being should come first over what is most convenient for a doctor's schedule. Overall I do not recommend Dr. Wells and will not be using her for any future births. read more

Hello All, This is my first review on Yelp and i feel very privileged to post about Dr.Carla Wells. We are blessed with a baby boy on May 29th 2018 and we are very happy that Dr.Wells handled in such a way that it is a normal delivery. After meeting Dr.wells for the first time we are very happy with the her manners and for every visit she is so patient with us cleared out all our questions and concerns and she took a note of every detail that we have shared. As we are approaching the due date she used to examine my wife and baby every week during the last month with utmost care and when we are in the last week before the delivery, she told us that we might have to induce pains as they might not come naturally and explained all the consequences of having the baby in the womb beyond certain days after the expected due date. she gave the date to get admitted in the hospital (May 28th, which is a holiday/long weekend) and our anxiety levels mounted up as it is long weekend and we are scared that wells might not be present during the delivery time. We got admitted in the St.Joseph's, Orange hospital and she is very clear on her plan on inducing the pains and she instructed the same to the nurse by providing support over phone and by the time my wife went into Active labor to our surprise Dr.Wells kept her promise and she is in the hospital within 30 minutes and after seeing her, me and my wife both were very happy and she motivated my wife during labor.With all doctors experience over years she took the right decisions at the right moment during the entire labor process and finally my wife delivered the healthy baby under her supervision and its a normal delivery. Thanks a lot Dr.Wells for being so helpful and we are very happy for choosing you and most importantly there is a false belief that usually the doctors will not come for delivery and they will just provide support over phone and you have showed us that it is not true with you !!!. I am very happy that I chose Dr. Wells as my OB/GYN for my first pregnancy. Dr. Wells is extremely professional and truly cares about the wellbeing of her patients. She communicated all necessary information clearly and effectively. Thanks to her we didn't have any misunderstandings, worries or anxieties in the months leading up to the birth of our son. She was also amazing during the childbirth process. From when my water broke at 4 am until my delivery around midnight the next morning, she checked on my status constantly with the hospital staff and nurses. Pros; I love Dr.Wells she a smart, intelligent woman; who knows her stuff. After going to 6 other OB's I was lucky enough to have found her. She was worth the 35 minute drive. I have been a patient of Dr. Wells for almost 20 years. Dr. Wells delivered both of my children and has seen me through both an irregular pap and an irregular mammogram. In my opinion there is no one more knowledgable or professional than Dr. Wells. In moving out of the area I have been sorely unsuccessful in finding anyone nearly as competent or trustworthy as Dr. Wells. I have on occasion traveled back just so I could see her. A good Dr. is hard to find, a great one is exceptionally rare. I would tell you Dr. Wells is outstanding. I have sent my mother and multiple friends to see her professionally as well. read more

I can't thank Dr. Wells enough for the great care she gave me. I was having so many problems going through menopause at an early age and finding the right doctor to help me seemed impossible. Then I found Dr. Wells. She listened to my concerns and made me feel like she really knew what I was talking about and cared about me as an individual. Go to her if you are 100% confident you will have a normal pregnancy with not even a trace of complications! I was diagnosed with an Ectopic pregnancy while under her care. First off I was never explained what was happening to me - I was bleeding heavily and Yet I was told I was pregnant. I was checked several times, came back for many screenings- getting poked & probed is not fun when you are in that state! And all she kept on insisting was to undergo surgery. Eventually I went in for a 2nd consultation to another doctor who immediately injected me with MTX injection (as I was too far along & we couldn't see the baby in the womb), and he had to perform the surgery as it was way too late by the time i went to him for the injection to work. I lost a tube & it has been a struggle till date getting pregnant! Bottom line, go to her if you want to be treated like you are her guinea pig for experimentation but not if you want to be treated with kindness & empathy !! read more

Aside from waiting for over an hour (not an unusual experience when it comes to doctors' offices), I enjoyed my first appointment with Dr. Wells. I was expecting a curmudgeonly, unfriendly doctor based on some of the reviews I have read while sitting in the waiting room, and I was relieved to find Dr. Wells neither curmudgeonly nor unfriendly. Quite the opposite, in fact. In addition, she spent ample time reviewing my health history and answering my questions. Much more than five minutes, I'm sure. I saw Dr Wells for a few months before switching doctors. I often felt rushed and wondered if she knew my name. It was as if she was reading my information for the first time every time I saw her. I was told incorrect information about my lab work. If you want individual attention and to be cared for during your pregnancy I recommend running the other way! One of the worst doctor. I went for annual checkup and I just discussed about my convincing problems for 2 mints for that she charged $160 for no reason stating that she treated me for infertility.
