The person at the desk wasn't friendly. Everybody in the lobby (6-8 people) were taken back before me, even people who came in after me. It was almost 30min past my appointment time and I asked if there were any stylists available because I had plans that day and again the desk person was rude and acted like I was bothering her. 45min past my appointment I finally was seated and after a very lack luster "head massage" which I paid more for, she curled my hair as quickly as possible. The curl didn't even last 30min. The volume she tried to give me only lasted 5min. Never again.

And, at that time he was renting a station in the back of a beauty supply store over on Oak Grove in Walnut Creek which was kind of weird. Still, I gave him a try and was like, he's pretty good. He actually knew what a fade was. Then James relocated over to a salon off of North Main Street in Walnut Creek when he rented another station and I followed. It was here that I observed his scissor skills improve to an elite level and soon enough he was busier than the owner of the hair salon. Seriously, the dude was working seven days a week. Maybe it was jealousy at the old salon or he just needed his own space, but his move to his very own salon suite co-op space akin to a WeWorks for hair dressers within the W Salon Suites in Alamo has been awesome. Now he has his very own enclosed suite and you can get some coffee at the shared lounge that is usually brewing Philz coffee beans. James is probably the best hair stylist in the East Bay, if not the Bay Area. Give him a try if you want a great cut. He accepts cash, Venmo, and credit cards. BTW, I still have no idea what Aura Zoom means LOL. * English is not his first language, but he speaks it well. He also speaks Korean and Mandarin. * During my most recent visit, he mentioned that he was taking Sundays off. Walk-ins are not accepted and reservations are required. I found Ashlee on instagram & was drooling over her gorgeous photos of color she's done on clients. I was nervous to book with someone totally new, but she outdid every expectation I had!!!!! The appointment started with a great consult, which I believe is so important. We looked at a few pictures while she thoroughly analyzed my hair. We discussed my vision & she gave me some ideas as to what we could do with my hair. It was super helpful to have someone be so involved in the process. The color is almost exactly what I showed her in the pictures, if not BETTER. This girl works quick & is a true master of her craft (also....she's truly passionate about hair, which shows in her work). I already re-booked with this babe because I loved my hair THAT MUCH. Ashlee Woolery is absolutely incredible. I moved from out of state 3 years ago and have tried different stylist until lucky #3, Ashlee! My family is in the hair business back home so I am pretty particular about my experience and color and every time Ashlee exceeds my expectations. She is super sweet and doesn't waste my time or try to talk my ear off, all good things in a stylist. I was also recommended to her by several co workers who's hair always looks amazing. She has been doing balayage on me since October and I will never turn back.. If balayage is something you are looking for, she is your girl. I waited a little longer than usually this past time to get my hair done again, due to the holidays, and just 2 weeks ago a stranger complimented my color and shine, asking if I had just got it done. Ashlee has been my Hair Stylist for over 8 yrs. She's the only stylist I've had who's an expert in color, blends and contrast. Natural look in appearance. She also has an eye for which style most compliments your face. I have a short, stylish at an angle cut that looks good all the time. No matter what my hair looks like when I wake up in the morning all I have to do is run a comb through it and every hair falls into place. Ashley is the flakiest hair colorist I've endured. She's talented, but you cannot rely on her to be there for her appointment. She cancels her appointments and it is almost impossible to reschedule as she is the only one that sets her appointments and she won't get back to you with dates to get your hair done. I was super excited to finally get extensions as a graduation gift from graduating from UCLA. Unfortunately, Andrea was unable to accommodate my schedule, so I took a chance and saw Britney. Britney was kind and did find at my first appointment-a trim and an all over color tone. I wanted to get my extensions done by Andrea, but again our schedules did not align so I decided to go to Britney. I admitted to Britney she was not my first choice of stylist, but she swore she knew how to do extensions, so I trusted her. My first appointment was at 7 PM and they took about 2.5 hours. I barely glanced at my hair as I left the salon, but being that Britney was a sweet person, I thanked her and tipped nicely. The next day at work, in better lighting, a coworker told me that the color of my natural hair did not match the extensions. Upon looking in better lighting, my natural hair was black and the extensions brown. I messaged Britney and she agreed to tone the extensions. I also told her that the cut of the extensions and my hair was not blended properly. As I got to the salon, she sat me down and immediately started cutting for shape. If the stylist did not see an error in her work, I would like to think that she would have taken more time to analyze the hair and understand how I found a flaw in my cut. She also moved my tape extensions and re-taped them as they were slipping ONE WEEK after installation. My hair looked terrible after. It was dyed a matte black and the tapes were coming apart at the corners. I couldn't put my hair up without the tape showing. Very very EMBARRASSINGLY, I was pulled aside by my manager at work as she said my hair looked "unkept" and "unprofessional". I reached out to Britney and she was very unaccommodating. She argued back and forth and took the comments very personally. I was respectful in my texts, but with a 1200 dollar investment, I could not have such terrible looking hair. Britney agreed to take the extensions out my hair, but insisted she could not handle the refund aspect of things. I was more than willing to pay for the hair extensions as those were ordered specifically for me. However, I believed I should receive a refund for the installation as it was done poorly. After consulting other hair stylists, they agreed refund for the installation was fair and typical for stylist policy. I went to another stylist to see if my hair could be fixed. She told me she could reuse the hair, but agreed the installation was such awful quality that I would have to pay for a total reinstall. Fast forward two weeks, Andrea replied to my messages saying she did not want to issue refund as the installation was done properly. Anyone can look at the these photos and see how terrible my hair looked. I'm frustrated and sad . This was supposed to be an investment and something to brighten up my graduation celebration. Now I am out $1200, my hair is worse than it started and I will need to spend even more money to get it fixed. I gave two stars bc the haircut I received at first was decent. I do not recommend this salon as the quality is low and the stylists all seem to have a chip on their shoulder.

I went through different treatments and products, and nothing ever lasted long. I did not previously know about Melanie's "hair botox" treatment and it was so interesting to hear about her journey and passion for her craft. Throughout the ~5+ hour process, Melanie was a joy to talk to and she truly cared about making sure my hair turned out right. She took great care in treating and straightening every strand. About a month later, I am still getting compliments on my straight, shiny, and healthy-looking hair. I highly recommend Melanie and look forward to returning in the future.

I have extremely finicky hair--frizzy beyond belief, super fine and stubborn, etc. I've spent years getting Japanese straigtening to tame the beast, resulting in a lot of breakage. I heard about Melanie years ago but was hesitant to go to her because of the cost and proximity. Just a few visits later, I wish I would have gone to her sooner! Melanie truly cares about each client and that shows in her approach. She doesn't sugar coat anything, she is realistic, she doesn't upsell or just try to get you out the door. On my first appointment, she spent an hour and a half evaluating my hair, going through practically each strand, asking questions from hair history to wash routine to stuff I barely even think about. (For the record, I have young kids with special needs and the level of thoroughness she had would be equal to their therapists!) She was honest with what she felt comfortable doing and why, and refrained from doing certain treatments on my hair even though she could have gotten more money. Later, when my hair started to grow out, she did a smoothing treatment that tamed my frizz, left my hair undamaged but shiny and manageable! I've done hair treatments enough to know when someone is just trying to get me out the door vs someone who cares, and Melanie falls into the second category. She also took time to share tips on my hair and how to style it. Are her prices higher? Yes. Are there stylists closer to where I live? Also yes. Is she worth it? Absolutely. She has clients who drive from Sacramento to see her, and it's clear to see why. Melanie is an absolute gem!

Lila set my expectations so that I can know the limitations of my hair and what we can achieve, without having to fry my hair with bleach. She brought my hair back to life with the bright warm light blonde that I wanted, and also made sure that the cut I wanted afterwards was successfully reached.
