I had heard about Asher's for quite some time and I finally had a chance to go! I really love the atmosphere and the decorations that they had,, it really made you feel at home in a way. My husband and I shared the cheese curds to start, they were served with ranch and were pretty tasty. I tried the barbecue pulled pork sandwich and french fries. It was quite good, I asked for a little bit extra barbecue but the meat was nice and tender and the fries were perfect. My husband had the tenderloin sandwich, he enjoyed his as well. The service was great and it wasn't too busy for a Saturday afternoon. We will definitely be returning to try something new on the menu! read more

While the food is excellent, the ambiance leaves something to be desired. A borderline surly hostess greeted us. She wasn't happy that we were a party of 6 without a reservation on Christmas Eve. At that time, there were 4 people in the entire dining room. We convinced her to put two tables together to seat our party. We sat for 5 minutes before the hostess returned as our server to take our drink and appetizer orders. We ordered while waiting for the appetizers. the appetizers and food arrived in a decent amount of time and, as I said previously, the food was excellent. While we were eating, the restaurant began to fill up. Our server appeared to be the only server working with one busboy and one food runner. With that skeleton staff, it took ten minutes to get our check and pay. I was surprised to see a 3% charge added to the bill for credit card payments; I understand the necessity of doing so for a small business. Overall, the ambiance was bordering on unfriendly. I'll call it cold and without any personality. At no time did I feel like an appreciated customer. This is only my third visit to Asher's and I don't expect to return for a fourth visit anytime soon. read more

My wife and I had lunch here on busy Friday afternoon. The ambience here is very cool and relaxed. My wife ordered a traditional burger w/ cheese and Asher's cheese fries with bacon with a Dr. Pepper. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which comes with fries. I had water to drink. Good things - The burger had 2 Smashed Pattie's that were moist and delicious! The burger is a 4/5 star burger. The fresh cut fries when crunchy were good. The chicken had good flavor and was cooked properly. Bad things - The fries for Both our orders were mostly soft, flimsy, and soggy. A few fries were crunchy. The fries are super small and short. There wasn't much white cheese sauce on my wife's fries. The fountain soda was not good. There was not enough carbonation in the soda. My wife had a Dr.pepper and then switched to a sprite and still had the same result with a carbonation issue. The chicken was so small! The chicken was about the size of half the bun! The grilled chicken and fries is 15 dollars and was way over priced! The burgers don't include fries!!! Fries are an extra 2 dollars. The service was unfortunately slow and the food came out really slow! The waitress apologized because she had 2 large tables with big orders but why not offer a discount or an item for free? We waited about an hour for food! We will be back for more burgers or possibly to try the tenderloin. Unfortunately our first experience wasn't a great one! read more

Absolutely love the concept of this place. It's a restaurant, but has a lil area for gambling, pool, and a bar. The food was also really good, I only remembered to take pictures after we dug in lol. I got the mac and cheese and shared a horseshoe and both were great. Only complaint is the grilled chicken on my mac and cheese tasted cheap. Also, my friend didn't like the chicken tenders on her food, I didn't have an issue with it though. Service was good no complaints. Great vibes, great food, overall fun place!!! read more

The ambiance of Asher's is lovely. There is a wood feel to the place and it stretches mysteriously to the back of the building, where there is a lovely pool table. The staff is attentive and on the spot with food and needs along the mail. I have had the horse before and it's excellent. The sunshine burger has a a fried egg and an "Asher bite", a delicious concoction of deep fried mashed potato. Asher bites are available as an appetizer and I would highly recommend them. The chicken finger were well flavored and cooked perfectly. The fried cod was also great although the cole slaw was not as flavorful as it ought to be. If you are looking for a great meal, I would recommend Asher's without reserve! read more

First off, I really like their food! It's very tasty and a lot of it tastes like it's fresh and "homemade". Regarding the bar, it's a nice bar, but I prefer larger, longer bars and more of a darker atmosphere for the bar (think Maquet's Railhouse in terms of atmosphere) and the bartenders seem friendly and do a good job but they seem like they don't want to get acquainted with their regular repeat customers. The reason I like I like to go to a bar is to nurse a drink in a sort of darker atmosphere and where the bartenders know your name and strike up conversations with you. Asher's is nice, but it seems like they are trying too hard to be many different things - hosting magic shows, live bands, comedy shows, etc. In my opinion, that detracts from the overall appeal to your establishment. Concentrate on being a bar and grill (restaurant). I don't want loud, obnoxious music while I'm trying to enjoy a drink and unwind. To each their own and I'm sure a lot of folks like live music, magic shows, etc. while dining and/or drinking but for me, I have to take one star away for that. Otherwise, Asher's is a welcome addition to Pekin with great food and drink and you owe it to yourself to check it out. It could turn out to be your favorite place in Pekin. I recommend the tenderloin if your a fan of tenderloins-- you certainly won't be disappointed! read more

Hi, Stopped in to get something to eat and settled on the 1/2 tenderloin with fries. Received quickly. Tenderloin was like it was pre-cook and thrown in fryer for quick warm up . Delicious food, great service and wonderful atmosphere. I've been back numerous times and haven't had a bad experience yet. They have also been short staffed a few of the times (who isn't right now?) and kept up the great service. Now if they got Delivery I'd be the happiest camper ever. LOL BEST cheese fries ever. They even have sweet potato fries (though cinnamon sugar is standard, but you can request to have them not put it on). I love their ruben and my husband is a fan of their horseshoes. I ordered dinner for the family a few weeks back and was told it would take 45 minutes. I showed up at that time, and they acted as if nobody put in the ticket for the kitchen. I waited there another 25 minutes just to be told that I would need to wait another 20 minutes. I walked out at that point with no food. My wife convinced me to try it again a week later, so we ordered for pickup again. That time they said it would be about 20 minutes and actually followed through with that. I had the fish and chips which were actually done really well. The homemade chips were great. I would advise they season them as they tasted as if they were not really seasoned at all. I would walk by the "under construction" sign outside the restaurant that would soon become "Ashers Bar & Grille" and cross all my fingers and my toes that the new place would bring something new to this town. Good isn't terrible but the three times I've been here the service was. I hate commenting on service because that can change so easily and quickly. But our party of over 8 people was left unattended and our food took over an hour to come. We had to flag down another waitress and she replaced our orders. They have been open for maybe 3 weeks now. Been 3 times. Not impressed at all. Some people like having something in town and good. I just hope it takes some curious people away form the good places in town to make it easier to get in the good places. Guy from kitchen came out genuinely requesting honest feedback on the food, loved that. But, an overall 2 rating because of experience with same older lady (behind the bar and occasionally waiting on tables)twice. 1. Asked her if they had an IPA, unfriendly response "I wouldn't know, I only drink Bud and Bud Light!" 2. Asked same person on a different occasion for a menu, got one, but she never came back. Didn't happen, but tastes okay. The pork tenderloin was impressive in size but seemed to be 2/3 breading and over salted for my tastes. Asher bombs got 3 thumbs down and 2 thumbs up. Kind of undercooked in the middle. Mac and cheese got 4 thumbs up. One side order was missing. The kid who eats anything finished the pulled pork without complaint and didn't share it or comment. We came in for a friends birthday on 8/6/20 and were not disappointed. We tried the Ashers balls/bombs cannot recall the exact name and the Pretzel chips for the appetizers and they were delicious. Three out of four of us had horseshoes and the fourth had chicken strips and fries. The fries were wonderful and so were the chicken strips. They do not have a chicken strip horseshoe on their menu but they created one for us when we asked for one. I had the Reuben horseshoe special and it was wonderful. Of the three of us that ordered horseshoes the only improve we could come up with was the cheese sauce. It was definitely lacking and was an odd consistency. If the cheese sauce were improved these horseshoes would be the best in the area! They also had an amazing selection of draft beers available. The Mango Cart was fantastic! The service we received was great as well and we got everything in a timely manner. Bathrooms were clean and tidy. Keep up the good work and we will be back! The cheese sauce is the only reason this doesn't get five stars from us. Overall a great experience. read more
