Meraki Hair Studio and Day Spa - My perfect manicure

Meraki Hair Studio and Day Spa

I went to Meraki for the first time yesterday and there is no doubt I will be back! It was a…read moreperfect salon experience beginning with my initial phone call to schedule my appointment. I was using a Groupon and I did not get any "attitude" like you do with some places when you say you're using a Groupon. They were extremely accommodating, and even changed the time of one of my appointments to a more convenient time when they realized it was available. When I arrived at the salon I was greeted warmly and given a comfortable place to sit while waiting for my first appointment. I was having my eyebrows waxed and a manicure and pedicure. Allison did all three services. It was the BEST eyebrow wax I have had in my life. It was practically painless and Allison checked with me throughout to make sure she was shaping them exactly how I wanted. The Groupon was for a gel manicure and gel pedicure, which made those less expensive than the regular manicure-pedicure. Allison was very helpful with picking a color (I'm indecisive). She even added a little extra sparkle for an accent nail without my asking for it. Everyone was so friendly. While I waited for a few minutes before my pedicure I was able to soak my feet and enjoy a glass of wine. (Pinot Grigio - my favorite!). The foot bath is not "jacuzzi" but frankly unless you put your foot right on the jets I never thought that mattered anyway. Care was taken to shape my toenails after my podiatrist had butchered them. After I was done I asked if I could sit and relax a while before getting in the car. I was welcomed and not rushed out. A perfect experience.

This is my go-to nail salon. I've tried the facial too…read more People are nice. Place is amazing! I love Tiarra and all the people who work there.

She arrived on time and ready to go, she even made last minute changes and was very accommodating after I requested a completely different look just days before my wedding. My makeup was flawless and people are still talking about the hairstyle she did for my big day! Mary Anne has an amazing energy and is beyond talented. She was such a calming force during all the craziness of everyone getting ready in the bridal suite, much appreciated. I cannot recommend her enough!

She picked the perfect tones for my skin and it lasted ALL day through my bridal shower. It felt light in my skin and I did not look like a mannequin. She expertly applied individual lashes of differing lengths and picked the alluring colors I had envisioned for my eyes. I loved my makeup and as a woman who frequents MAC, Nars and Makeup Forever counters -- not a first timer for a professional makeup session -- that speaks volumes for her talent. She has an eye for precision and fully captured the look I hoped to achieve for my wedding day. She also styled my hair. No easy task. I have very thick naturally curly hair -- she worked with my natural curls, softened them and did not load my hair with product to make a hair helmet. I highly recommend her. She'll be doing hair and makeup for me and my bridal party. Yay!

Blanco Salon - after (by Maria)

This review has been a long time coming!…read more I came here on a whim hoping to get a 45min touch up for my hair from a previous botched "balayage" at a salon in New York the week before thinking that it will be just a small fix. I booked with Maria, she took one look at my hair & texture and told me this is going to be a full session along with the reason why. She shown me areas of my hair that the hair stylist totally missed where I couldn't see myself. In addition, I told her I asked for money pieces/front swept bangs however, the previous hair stylist didn't blend it well at all. It was so choppy I was afraid it couldn't be salvaged. Mortified, I took her advice especially because this was going to be for my wedding. She reassured me that it can be fixed so, I booked a full session with her for the next day. Rest assured, the results were beyond what I imagined. Maria also gave me after care tips (I typically do not get that from hair stylists) so, you can tell how much her and her team cares about their clients. Unfortunately, I'm not from here, my now husbands family are. I don't think I will let anyone else touch my hair except for anyone at this salon. Whenever I come back to visit my in laws, I will most definitely make sure I book a session here as well!

I couldn't have been more pleased with Tina's creativity and artistic ability. I have no clue how to do makeup on myself, let alone my 10 year old...and I have NO VISION when it comes to hair. I told her to just create what she wanted! I have never, in my entire life, been so complemented by everyone I saw...all evening...over and over again. I have never (including my wedding day) felt more beautiful! I owe it all to Tina! Needless to say our pictures came out AMAZING and I can't wait to hang the portraits on our wall. She was able to glam me up, and at the same time give my daughter a young, dazzling look to keep her pure beauty, but make her feel "14" and gorgeous! Her confidence was brought out! I WOULD HIGHLY recommend Tina to anyone and everyone. I actually called her the next day to book her for a family wedding we have coming up.

When I was a kid, going to the barber was like going to church-- I had no choice. On Sunday…read moremornings, I wanted to sleep in but...nope!...time to get up for church! I tried to pretend I was asleep and hope my parents would have mercy on me but...nope!...You've had all night to sleep! Time for church! And I wanted to grow my hair long like my favorite rock musicians but...nope!...time to get that mop trimmed! I would plead...if not as long as Ozzy Osborne or Jimmy Page, at least let me grow it out as long as...say...John Denver! Mickey Dolenz, for God's sake! Nope. At best, I could let my bangs grow out a little. Instead of Iggy Pop, I looked like Dennis the Menace. As an adolescent, my fear was baldness. Being adopted and not knowing my heredity at that point in time, I worried about it constantly. A kid I knew started balding at 16 and this horrified me (what hair he had was bright red...orange, really...and the other kids tormented him by calling him "Flame"). My barber back then was a short, stocky Italian guy named Leon; had the striped barber pole in front of his place, Playboy magazines in the "waiting room," piles of hair accumulating on the tiled floor, tear-inducing scents of industrial strength hair tonic floating through the air, etc. I wanted to ask him if he saw any signs of incipient baldness as he sheared away my hair from my head, but he was as bald as a cueball, and I could never summon up the courage to address the issue with him, especially when he had those sharp scissors in hand. As a young adult, I was asked to be best man at a friend's wedding, and I belatedly decided it was time to get a more modern, up-to-date and adult haircut. Even though I was old enough by then, I had outgrown the desire to go out and about looking like Ozzy Osborne (or Dennis the Menace). I asked for recommendations from people who paid more attention to how they looked than I did, and I was advised to check out a hair salon in the area (not HairXOrdinaire), and ask for Darcie. From that day to this, Darcie has been the person to cut my hair. She's skilled, friendly, patient and kind (let's face it, anyone less than patient and kind would have buried that scissors in my chest after the 200th-plus time of me asking, "See any signs of baldness up there?"), and does her job better than anyone I can think of (sorry, Leon). She's been working at HairXOrdinaire for a few years now, and it's a perfect match. Everybody here is friendly and accommodating. Occasionally, Darcie hasn't been available, and I've had my hair cut by someone else (Claudia on one occasion, Inge on another), but it's always been a stellar haircut. Prices are reasonable, I've never had a problem scheduling an appointment (and my hours can be wacky), and the establishment is easily accessible with plenty of parking space. Time marches on, but I still have all my hair, and it looks better than it ever did (even when I don't), thanks to Darcie and HairXOrdinaire. Hope you guys are here for a long, long time.
