Provenance Food Hall and Restaurant sits on Market Street in Westhoughton, and has always boasted…read morean impressive food hall of local fresh meats, pies, produce and the like, but also has an upstairs restaurant which I've never been to before, so whilst in Westhoughton I thought I'd pop in for some breakfast. The restaurant area is on a first floor mezzanine level, looking down over parts of the food hall like a minstrels gallery. It's decorated in bright and fresh neutral colours, grounded by a natural wooden floor. Light cascades in through sash windows on two walls. Glimpses through cut-outs in the walls show further seating areas, for use in the full restaurant of an evening. I took a menu from the bar and had a read. The breakfast offerings look good, but as I read the menu I realise that the rest of the menu looks superb too! Steak nights, grill nights, Afternoon Teas and all sorts of other tempting things. I already decide before ordering that I must come again to the "proper" restaurant in an evening. I decided to order sourdough toast with whipped butter and marmalade, and a pot of Birchall's English Breakfast Tea, and was told to take a seat anywhere I like and it'd be brought over. I chose to sit by one of the sash windows and look down out over Market Street. Even seated I can see the fine quality finish on everything in this venue; the restaurant is the same quality and fit as the downstairs foodhall, meaning everything is spotless, modern, and pleasant. The staff upstairs seem to be as friendly and helpful as the staff downstairs too. It all feels very professional, whilst still very friendly. I observe other visitors who join after me, a mother and her children enjoying breakfast, some ladies-who-lunch ordering eggs benedict, and two young girls ordering soft drinks. It's nice to see that there's a mix of customers. My breakfast arrives, beautifully presented, but to be honest I wouldn't have expected any less from Provenance from what I've seen. The Fairtrade tea is delicious, and the sourdough toast has a superb crunch to it, the butter and marmalade both being of good quality, meaning you feel a bit spoilt for your breakfast, which can never be a bad thing. It was a very tasty breakfast, and cost less than four quid. Brilliant. Great place, and I can see that the quality and service are priority here, so I look forward to returning to try the evening menu sometime, and was already advised by another staff member to book in advance due to popularity!

Everything is clean and we'll kept; the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic; bread and pastries are baked fresh on site and there's a great deli downstairs. Prices are very reasonable. I'll definitely be coming here again.

Iceland offer a free home delivery service on shopping which totals over £25. They accept all major credit cards, Flexecash cards, Love2Shop vouchers, and cash. They don't accept cheques. They offer cashback. This store is clean, well stocked, and well laid out, with friendly and helpful staff and managers, who are happy to go out of the way to help their customers. It has 5 aisles and 5 tills including a wide wheelchair-access till. As well as trolleys and baskets, it also has a disabled trolley and an infant trolley available. Trolleys require a £1 coin or a token to release them. The store can get very busy at times, especially around certain times of year such as Christmas. Most definitely my first choice when it comes to groceries. Not just to support a local business,…read morebut due to the quality of the produce, and the customer service too! The Salad Bowl sells fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices, local butter, jams, chutneys, curds, local eggs, and some quality juices. It's a small and traditional shop which you can clearly tell has been there for longer than most of us have been around! Sticking with tradition, the fresh vegetables and fruit are both inside the store and outside on display, but stepping into the modern age, the owners also take photos of their newly available produce and other aspects of the business, and post them on Twitter, to great effect, especially when it comes to making you aware of new things to try, such as "strasberries", white carrots, and purple broccoli. The staff are friendly and pleasant, and have the traditional style of going and picking up the individual items you may want if you ask for them. This is especially good for the elderly and more infirm customers. They are also happy to inform you about their current products, and make any recommendations. They also do veg boxes and fruit boxes of various sizes, allowing you to have a regular delivery to your home of fresh and varied produce, and for a pretty damn good price too! It's also particularly pleasant to be able to try local products, such as locally sourced eggs and locally grown potatoes as well as local butter, which also boosts the feeling of supporting a local business and local life. But to be honest, when the quality and service is this high when shopping locally, I can't see why anyone would rather shop anywhere else, and certainly not at supermarkets! I highly recommend a visit!

The entrance to the store is pretty nightmarish, it's poorly lit and narrow and easy to miss, I ended up walking through the car-park to get into the store, and due to the construction around the petrol station (permanent barriers), it ruled out the possibility of cutting through and was quite a long and dangerous walk just to get into the store, so they do need to signpost how to get in/out much better. I did have an issue with the packaging of their bakery goods, after scanning at the till it ripped open and tipped up onto the counter, as I was buying this for a friend this was an item containing gluten so I didn't want to handle it, the staff member bagged it up again but I didn't notice until I got home one had become stale, as she had just put it in a small plastic bag. Pretty much typical of a Morrisons store in terms of design and layout. 3* - Not a bad supermarket, some good items, but there is much better in and around Chorley, and even nearby towns such as Preston and Bolton.
