The restaurant area is on a first floor mezzanine level, looking down over parts of the food hall like a minstrels gallery. It's decorated in bright and fresh neutral colours, grounded by a natural wooden floor. Light cascades in through sash windows on two walls. Glimpses through cut-outs in the walls show further seating areas, for use in the full restaurant of an evening. I took a menu from the bar and had a read. The breakfast offerings look good, but as I read the menu I realise that the rest of the menu looks superb too! Steak nights, grill nights, Afternoon Teas and all sorts of other tempting things. I already decide before ordering that I must come again to the "proper" restaurant in an evening. I decided to order sourdough toast with whipped butter and marmalade, and a pot of Birchall's English Breakfast Tea, and was told to take a seat anywhere I like and it'd be brought over. I chose to sit by one of the sash windows and look down out over Market Street. Even seated I can see the fine quality finish on everything in this venue; the restaurant is the same quality and fit as the downstairs foodhall, meaning everything is spotless, modern, and pleasant. The staff upstairs seem to be as friendly and helpful as the staff downstairs too. It all feels very professional, whilst still very friendly. I observe other visitors who join after me, a mother and her children enjoying breakfast, some ladies-who-lunch ordering eggs benedict, and two young girls ordering soft drinks. It's nice to see that there's a mix of customers. My breakfast arrives, beautifully presented, but to be honest I wouldn't have expected any less from Provenance from what I've seen. The Fairtrade tea is delicious, and the sourdough toast has a superb crunch to it, the butter and marmalade both being of good quality, meaning you feel a bit spoilt for your breakfast, which can never be a bad thing. It was a very tasty breakfast, and cost less than four quid. Brilliant. Great place, and I can see that the quality and service are priority here, so I look forward to returning to try the evening menu sometime, and was already advised by another staff member to book in advance due to popularity!

Since the Tesco in Swindon has a huge selection of American items, I thought that this store might offer the same. I am planning to make a Thanksgiving dinner and need some American items to ensure authenticity :). There is a large car park, however, if there is a football game on, you may want to stay away from this area due to traffic. The store is huge and was quite busy on Saturday afternoon. There are ATMs outside of the store, as well as a dry cleaning service. Walking inside the store actually made me feel like I was in a Wal-Mart Supercenter. It is huge! There is a cafe, salon, electronics section, beauty counter like those in a department store, bakery, and a health store. We continued straight on and went through the toys, home goods, and electronic sections. If you head to the right you'll eventually find the food section. Of course we did get a bit sidetracked and ended up getting a slow cooker since it was on sale (we will be returning it as when we plugged it in, it blew the fuse for everything in our apartment). I also got to look at Christmas decorations and saw a nice laptop for a reasonable price to replace my iBook dinosaur. Eventually we got over to the food section. The problem with me trying to do a shop in a new store is that I get distracted trying to look at everything on offer. Unfortunately this is not compatible with Mr. Snarky and I should have sent him back over to the electronics. What I like about the store, is that while it is very busy, it is very spacious so it doesn't feel like sardines in a can and making shopping a little easier. While they do offer a lot and all of the usual items, I was a bit disappointed with their World Foods Area. The first was the rice aisle which consisted mainly of Basmati rice with a couple bags of glutinous rice. For a 'World Foods' section, they should have more selection of rice and as a result I didn't get the rice that I was looking for. They do offer a lot of European foods, but the selection from other countries is not as large, including the American section. I did get the pumpkin for my pumpkin pie and pumpkin roll, but the other items that I was looking for and stocked by the Tesco in Swindon were not available. I did like that they have a 'Free From' section for those with intolerances or allergies... and it seems fairly extensive. Check out was a bit slow, but no massive queues. Besides self-checkout, they do have the scan-as-you-shop scheme as well. It is a nice store, though, very clean, well stocked, and has almost everything you could want.

It also has a cafe, a salon, a Timpson dry cleaner/key cutter, and a petrol station, as well as an on-site recycle centre. As it is quite a large and busy store, there can be quite a problem with queuing at the tills, and due to being a 24 hour store, late night shopping can see many internal lights turned off, as well as lots of cages of stock all over the place down most aisles, making access tricky. NOTE: On Bolton Wanderers match days, there is a three hour limit to be parked in their car park, after which, you can receive a £70 fine.

The selection in most areas is fine, and I do like the fact they have Amazon Lockers here which is the one big plus compared to Sainsbury's across the way. The central location makes it easy to access from Bolton town centre, as it is a stone's throw away from the train station and nearby retail park, access as a pedestrian can be a little tricky as it means having to walk the whole length of the road outside, it's a shame they haven't made a cut-through which would be easy to do for any reputable construction company. It was a little hard to find staff members on the shop floor, perhaps this is due to ongoing social distancing guidelines due to COVID-19 as I have begun to notice this more often lately, even at other supermarkets. 3* - OK, worth an upgraded rating.

It is also just across the street from Sainsbury's as well as some other stores. So it is fairly central and hard to miss. The traffic in the car park is a bit of a nightmare... taxis waiting, cars not being able to get by because of the awkward shape of some parts of the car park. That is one of the reasons, I can't give the place five stars. However, there is a car park below the store that doesn't seem quite so busy and is great when it is pouring down outside. It is a paid car park... we missed that the first time, but fortunately it was such a quick trip we didn't have to worry about a ticket. Oops. There is a petrol station, which might also be causing some of the traffic problems. There is a covered area where you can wait for a taxi, but it doesn't seem to be large enough. There is an ATM as well. Another complaint I have, the large spinning doors to the store. One of the reasons for parking below the store... not having to put up with the spinning doors! There always seems to be someone who doesn't know how to use it and the whole thing just stops. Not to mention carts and this contraption are just not a good combination. They have a cafe and while it is cheap, I think I would prefer to pick up a snack at the deli or bakery at the back of the store. The store is always super busy and can make a quick shop a bit of a challenge. I do like their bakery and actually think they have some better looking (and tasting) dessert options than some of the other supermarkets in town. I also like their deli... really I like the part next door where they are baking pies, pasties, and sausage rolls. They always have fresh pasties and sausage rolls... sometimes they are still warm! Their pork and cranberry sausage rolls are my favourite! I think their produce area could use a bit of work as sometimes it looks a bit of a mess. I also tend to skip the frozen section. There are usually queues at the tills, but the staff are friendly. There are usually a number of self-checkout machines that are not working, so I usually skip the self-checkout here. Overall, there are some great parts of the store, but I wouldn't consider this for my normal, weekly shops.

Have been regularly visiting cafe Italia since 2014 Food is…read moreexcellent......Vito manages his various roles superbly......cooking.....managing.....waiting......throughout this time he has shown excellent judgement......through the difficulties of Covid......the cafe has always provided excellent food..... service.....customer relations......the decor has been tastefully adapted over the years......it's a place to visit throughout the day......breakfast....coffee.....light lunch.....afternoon tea......evening meal......and definitely for any kind of celebration......the staff have remained constant over the years, which is a testament to their loyalty to the business and their employer. A typical big Tesco store that does exactly what it says on the tin. There's the usual wide range…read moreof food on offer, and it's fairly competitively priced; and then there are all the usual Tesco extras -- clothes, electrical goods, books, DVDs etc etc. The staff are friendly (I met some of them in the Staff Only area a while back and they were all very pleasant). The only drawback is that the place is not very car-friendly: some parts of the car park are a long way from the front door, and driving out of the place can take an age at peak times (the traffic lights seem to have it in for Tesco customers). But all in all, a good place to shop if you don't mind adding to Tesco's multi-billion profits.
