We found this salon on Yelp when my daughter needed her hair done. This last minute request had me a bit nervous. I'm not one to let just anyone do her hair. We found Ascension salon and based on the high rating and reviews decided to see about getting an appointment. I called and was able to get in quickly and they asked what she needed done. When we arrived we were greeted immediately. Chrissy was my daughter's stylist and she was an absolute delight very professional and friendly. I recently moved to the Annapolis area from Philadelphia. Let me tell you... finding a new hair dresser is hard to do! I tried another hair stylist in the area, but was very disappointed with my haircut. So, after searching Yelp, I decided to give this place a try. After reading the reviews, I chose April as my stylist. I was happy to be able to secure a Saturday morning appointment. I am a natural blonde and was unhappy with my current hair situation. I felt that my hair color was very drab. My hair usually naturally lightens up in the summer after being in the sun. But, this was my busiest summer yet, decreasing my fun in the sun. I was also unhappy with my haircut from a previous hair dresser in the Annapolis area. When I arrived, I was greeted, asked to complete an intake form, and take a seat on the couch. After a few minutes, April came over and brought me to her station. We chatted about what I wanted done and then she took me back to the color room. I told her I wanted to do highlights, but still wanted my hair to look as natural as possible. April did all of that, and more! She took her time and made sure the colors were right and that every section of hair was foiled properly. We had a nice conversation - one that was not forced or awkward like it can sometimes be at hair salons. While I processed, I was offered a drink and a magazine. After the foils were out and my hair washed, we went back to April's station for the cut. I had decided to do a slight angled cut with layers. April did an excellent job and even taught me a few easy tricks for volume that I could do myself. I am very pleased with both the cut and color of my hair. I would definitely recommend April to anyone! To quote another reviewer, "April certainly does know her blondes!" I am so happy I found April and cannot wait to go back :) For those of you concerned about pricing, I got a full foil highlight with a cut, blowout, and style for $180. It's definitely more than I paid back in Philadelphia, but didn't find it to be outrageous. read more

This place was phenomenal when I had Elaine as a stylist. When she left, I was reassigned to Chrissy. She unapologetically showed up 10 minutes late, reeking of cigarettes for my appointment. I have short hair, and she left me with uneven side burns - that had straggler hairs unclipped, and lots of random hairs on the top of my head that she just missed. In addition, while I was paying, she stood at the register making me feel pressured to leave her a tip for a job terribly done. I've never felt so rushed by a stylist, and I won't be returning for her to botch my hair a second time. read more

This place was just not for me. It wasn't a terrible experience I just wasn't a fan of the set up and the aged feel. It is also very expensive for the quality of work. It's been almost six months since my haircut there and it still looks terrible. The ends are a complete mess and i didn't even ask for a complicated cut. My hair is really long and I wear it up most of the time so it wasn't a huge deal, but I'm definitely embarrassed to straighten my hair and expose the jagged ends. I went there for the first time last week. Never again. She left the bleach on too long on my roots so now I have brassy orange roots and light brown hair. When they were rinsing the bleach out of my hair there was something wrong with the water pressure so I kept getting burned while she was washing my hair. She listened carefully during our consultation and gave me just what I wanted. I enjoyed her professional presence as well. I moved to Annapolis a few years ago and was looking for a new stylist I could really love- I had been to a couple that were ok but was still looking to get that great hairstyle. Jamie was recommended on Next Door and mentioned by a few people so I gave her a try. She did an excellent job on the cut and the color is absolutely gorgeous. Everytime I look in the mirror I just totally love my hair. And the thing is I barely told her anything about what I wanted she knew right away what to do with my hair. When I went to color room she had it all mixed up and ready so I was a little insecure without looking at strands and telling her what I wanted. She gave me a partial highlight and selected just the right color and it looks so beautiful and natural. As well, she is very sweet and a pleasure to work with.
