I had no idea this store existed; I just stumbled upon it as I wandered around Asheville. Intrigued by what I saw in the window, I went in to find this amazing, large space with furniture, clothes, jewelry, rugs, metal lanterns, ceramics, and more! Because I wanted to see EVERYTHING, I spent over an hour just looking. Then I started asking questions to the only staff person, who was knowledgeable & joyful, answering my questions and telling me about the store. Everything is made in Morocco & they make several trips a year there to work with the artisans & search for new ones to partner with. The staffer was almost giddy to search through stacks of baskets to find the one I wanted. I learned about Cactus Silk as I picked out a bright colored necklace made from it. I also found the perfect lantern that looks spectacular on our dining table with light from a votive candle shining through. I told her my daughter has shoes she got in Morocco years ago, but they were worn out and she'd love another pair. When I could not find similar shoes, the staffer asked me to send a photo of the shoes when I got home so they could look for them during their next trip. The day I sent the photo, I heard back from the owner that day (!), who said she'd be happy to look for them during their next trip, which happens to be in November. (Fingers crossed they'll find similar shoes!) This is truly a unique shop: the service and the products were top-notch! And the prices were reasonable. Now that I know this store is there, I will gladly make the 4-hour trip to Asheville to go to Arete again. read more
