All the great reviews of this foundry are from the past. I used to have access a foundry and cast in bronze myself. So, I know how it supposed to be. About that time last year, I took two smaller (not monumental, about 10 inches high) works in wax to cast in bronze and patina. One was cast fine, the other one had lots of defects. Patina work for was a huge frustration hence the patineur person was new and had very vague idea of how patina effects bronze work and how to achieve anything. At he end, I gave up, took my works home, and still am very disappointed whenever I look at them. I also I noticed that for their monumental works they bring professionals to work on them. I will never take my work to this foundry again. Just couldn't imagine that it can be so bad! read more

A cool little workshop and gallery off the beaten trail. Great place to find sculptures, furniture and other decorative gems. The grounds are like an art gallery, only not particularly well-maintained. The gallery itself has two levels, a first floor with displayed metal sculptures and a few offices, and a second floor that includes a living room area with a couch and TV. This place is admittedly a little confusing, however, because no prices are listed, and I was told that the majority of art belongs to the owner? So it's very difficult to determine what is available for purchase, and what is merely for display. Even more confusing is that the employees who work here don't seem to know what's for sale and what's already owned by the owner. I suppose that means they aren't particularly concerned with selling their art, so maybe come here just to browse? Regardless - a lovely space to wander when you happen to be in Berkeley. read more

Their work speaks for itself. Check the website and client list. This is a rare artisan shop in a rare area. I was given a tour of the facility a few days ago and was amazed. I am a molding and casting enthusiast and this is one of the few sophisticated operations on the leading edge of fine art reproduction. They cast exclusively in bronze but the skill set in their shop is a powerhouse of molding and casting craftsmanship. A true inspiration to behold. read more

A very talented and artistic group of highly skilled artisans. The create some of the finest bronze statuary large or small for individual artists, corporations or public institutions. Also masters in restorations. In my case I had a valuable antique bronze damaged in shipping I searched for someone to fix it and had no luck until I contacted Artworks foundry they were pleasant on the phone and assured me to bring the piece in. Well everyone was very professional and while I waited in the beautiful gallery two skilled workers fixed my piece and I was out the door in about and hour with a minimal charge. I can't express how impressed I was with the service and it is worth a visit just to see some of the great art works on display. read more

in one word: arrogant. They were conceited and arrogant and frankly unhelpful. When I took a piece in for repair which I had spent a lot of time describing by email with photos they then said it was not the sort of thing they dealt with because it was beneath them. I'm so grateful that this world class facility is in my area, and that they open their services to amateurs like myself. I will definitely continue working with them to make bronze sculptures, alongside the sculptures being made by Disney, George Lucas' franchise, the Nature Conservancy, and some of the world's most respected fine artists. Going through the process of making a bronze sculpture, everyone who works there was very patient and attentive, from preparing the clay sculpture for the mold, to selecting a patina. You need to do your homework to create a piece. Yet, I'm amazed at how accessible they have made a truly complex process that requires so much expertise, experience and equipment. I learned so much by each time I went because staff explained so much and showed example pieces to help illustrate at various stages of the process. Just go on a tour of their facility. As soon as you drive up, you will be inspired by the large pieces that flank the entrance, and their serene gallery of art is beautiful. This is an amazing, creative laboratory, staffed by real hard-working artisans who are kind, patient, and collegial. read more
