On February 1st, I tried to enroll both of my children for a one-week session to see if they would enjoy it before committing further. I successfully signed up my son, but my daughter was waitlisted. Since we needed both kids in camp at the same time due to work schedules, I immediately contacted the camp for insight into whether she had a chance of getting in. It took two days to get a response, only to be told that the waitlist had 130 people and she would not be getting in. Realizing that it didn't make sense to send just one child, I immediately requested to unenroll my son. Weeks later, I finally received confirmation--along with a $200 cancellation charge! It's absurd that there was no way to place my son on a waitlist before enrolling, forcing families with multiple children into an impossible situation. This policy is unfair and completely lacks consideration for working parents. If you have more than one child, I'd strongly advise against this camp unless you're okay with paying a steep fee for a situation that's out of your control. This experience makes me question the camp's priorities--would you want to send your child somewhere that doesn't understand the basic point of camp?

When I asked what they loved about it they said "The games, the challenges and the counselors never once yelled at us." I marvel at the activities the counselors come up with to keep the kids engaged and laughing all day, even in sweltering heat. I also love that you can see highlights every day on Instagram. It's all about the counselors, they are kind, patient, inclusive and so positive, even in the face of rowdy behavior. I like what our kids are learning and we promised them they can go there all summer next year :)

We even hosted a party our self here. It's pretty no-nonsense: they do some activities with the kids in the gym (basically a lot of hopping around on the equipment) and then go to the party room for whatever the host has supplied to eat (pizza, cake, etc.). The staff is friendly and helps out a little with the clean up. Can't tell you much about the serious gymnastics programs, but for a young kid's birthday party, it's A-OK.

You'll see gymnasts, martial artists, break dancers, silk dancers and all kinds of athletes in there at those times and it's a blast. It can get packed those times but everyone is mindful of each other for safety and still get plenty of space and access to what you need to work on. And as a total beginner I can walk in here and have the awesome Steve encourage and support me to try a backflip...I can't even do a cartwheel! There's science experiments and many rooms to explore to do activities in. There are groups in the camp: yellow, red, blue, and purple. The groups all represent different age groups, so you can play with people your age. It's a fun place with everything a child would dream of doing, and the staff are really nice too. There's educational classes for reading and art. The camp also tires out all the children by making lots of play which tires them to sleep extra early. It's a big place with a lot of running around space and do activities inside the building! There are a lot of board games to play such as Monopoly, Bingo, Uno, and Connect 4! So we approached the front entrance with trepidation, not knowing what to expect when we stepped inside. But sure enough, just inside the front entrance was the custard counter. We arrived on a late Friday afternoon, walking over from The Sandwich Shop a few blocks down Church (same side of the street and walking right past Rita's (!!)) after having a late sammie lunch (also our first time at The Sandwich Shop - read my review). We had spotted Kiln & Custard as we drove past it to get to the sandwich place and made a mental note to save room to try their custard as a cap-off to lunch. What a great location! Walkable anywhere from old town Vienna and the downtown area (nothing is really that far), tucked away one block off busy Maple Ave, surprisingly lots of great FREE street parking (on Church) but also right there in their small shopping center parking lot so it's truly not a pain-in-the-butt to head over and not have to stress about where to park. The guy serving the custard was also tending to customers doing pottery painting (not many when we arrived) - dunno how service is if you just come in for the custard and the place is packed (we saw that pottery customers had to ask the guy each time they wanted more paint which he portioned out for them...vs customers self-serving their own paint and colors in other paint-your-own places we've been to - with a single worker, I can imagine that could be a bottleneck problem if the pottery side is busy AND there's a line of custard customers waiting to be served). The frozen custard is DEEEEELICIOUS. You can definitely see as it's being scooped AND TASTE that it's housemade. SOOOOO GOOOD. Very creamy, soft, pliable, rich custard flavor and not too sweet. They offer 12 flavors - see my pics of the 2 display cases of custards. PRICES IMO ARE VERY REASONABLE. $2.85 for a kid's size, GENEROUS HEAVY HANDED PORTIONS (and who doesn't love THAT in this economy?!). I had the Vanilla Oreo and my friend had the Nutella - a perfect after-lunch dessert treat. TREMENDOUS! For the price, generous portion sizes, quality of the custard combined with its easily accessible location in Vienna and no hassle parking options, this could for sure be a destination frozen-treat shop when I'm in the Vienna area (which is fairly regularly). The Y center is a great option for pickleball in the Arlington area. The associate executive…read moredirector is supportive of the program, listens to feedback, and continues to do what she can to make adjustments to address the evolving needs of the community. At the Y, there are six pickleball courts, striped over three tennis courts. Court surface is great compared to other courts in the Arlington area. There are times/options for all level of play and many sessions are marked for specific levels of play so you know what you're signing up for. It does occasionally struggle with HVAC issues but they address it as much as they can, considering the age of the facility. But they are planning a renovation/new facility, so that's great. And consistent with many pickleball communities, the Y's efforts - drop-ins, tournaments, WhatsApp groups, etc. - have fostered a great community.
