I've now had the pleasure of working with two different teachers at WSS and came away impressed both times. About a year ago my daughter, then 13, began showing some artistic talent. She had a good eye for…read morecomposition and was starting to teach herself to improve her art through YouTube videos. Eventually she decided that she wanted to apply to attend a competitive arts-oriented high school. The school required that a portfolio be submitted as part of the application process, with several required pictures - a landscape, a portrait, an animal, etc. My daughter's current school was supportive, but not focused on producing a structured portfolio. And we needed to have everything ready in under two months! I found Anatol through searching Yelp and the web, and he has been amazing. He supplied the instruction, the discipline, and the structure that my daughter needed. First, he helped my daughter focus her sketching ability. Then he helped her expand to colored pencils and water-color work. All of these she used to produce the required portfolio artworks. He also helped us confirm which of her preexisting works should be included in the rest of the portfolio. Basically, he helped her cover a year's worth of art instruction in a two-month period. (There were many lessons, but no tears!) I am glad to say that my daughter ended up being accepted into the high school program, something that seemed unlikely before we started with Mr. Woolf. However, what makes me happiest is that my daughter was able to develop her talent with Anatol, who was able to balance her own artistic interests with the needs of the portfolio and the expectations of formal artistic training. He helped her develop what she was already doing and teach her new techniques as well. (My daughter also read this review and says she agrees with it!)

I am an art collector and was lucky enough to discover this glass studio. It is operated by a…read morewonderful and talented glass artist by the name of Alison Sigethy. Her main focus is making Sea Cores, which our beautiful extruded glass cylinders from Germany filled with magical and mythical pieces of glass. Some are shaped like corals and some are glass creatures. To bring the sculpture alive she uses lighting from the bottom and mineral oil along with an air pump creating a memorizing effect. Her pieces are my favorite, I love your glass sculptures better than my Chihuly and other famous glass artists in my collection. Her prices are very reasonable and come in different sizes and price ranges. She also does other glass artists. She is located in the Torpedo Factory Art Center with other artists. She has pieces all ready to go or will work with you to design a unique piece. Please check her out you will be glad you did!

The gallery owner and manager were super approachable and friendly. They shared more information about the artists and pieces that I liked. I love seeing and learning more about contemporary art beyond what is seen in museums or read on Hyperallergic, so it's really wonderful to have this in the neighborhood. I've driven by a few times and have seen the collections change, so I realize that I could be dropping in weekly to see more works!

Each session has a theme and the artwork and the field trips reflect the themes perfectly. The self-portraits they painted for the "I am somebody" theme are so special that we plan to hang them on their new bedroom walls. My girls went to two sessions and they learned so much. They came home excited every day. At the end of the week, they had an art show for parents. Unfortunately, I could not attend but the staff posted a short video of the children's artwork on Facebook. I definitely appreciated that gesture.
