The Pyramid Atlantic Art Center is a nonprofit center specializing in papermaking, printmaking, and book arts. It was founded in 1981, but more recently it moved into the historic Arcade building in the Hyattsville Gateway Arts District. They offer artist residencies, studios for artists, workshops, instruction, artist talks, and other events, including classes for the public. They sell pieces - large and small - and they have a small shop where they sell prints, cards, and other items. If I lived nearby and had the slightest artistic talent, I'd want to spend time at Pyramid. What a great resource for people who make art and love art in the Hyattsville area! I'm sure I'll be back, but if you live in the area, learn more about it and check it out!

On their website there is a supposedly a way to schedule online but that didn't work either. Thankfully Groupon refunded my over $500 purchase. Do not deal with this company!

Liz, Sampson and Isaiahs to be exact were so amazing I had to name them. Only two out of our group had flew before so we needed all their attention and they provided it! They encouraged us to come back and even reminded us we get a discount if we register within the 24 hr time period. Cost I was very pleased for the experience we received in comparison to the price. Very reasonable imo and very convenient when it came to scheduling dates. Location Located in Navy Yard suprsigly I was able to nab a spot directly in front and never had to look around. I booked the 6pm class which may have played a factor with the parking.

FLYING TRAPEZE It's pretty intimidating to climb all the way…read moreup to the top and stand on that platform and jump for the first time. But you get used to it after awhile because depending on the size of the class, you could end up jumping 6-8 times. Toward the end I was getting really tired and my arms were feeling like jello and wanted to give out. When you go for the swinging catch you really have to stretch your body and reach for the other person. Unfortunately, I didn't make the connection but with a few more sessions I feel that will be the natural next step. It's exhilarating and you leave feeling like a bad ass. BEGINNER SILKS CLASS This class was a lot harder than it looks - it does require some upper body strength, hand grip and balance. The instructor was very encouraging and demonstrated each move step by step. I only took one class but I'd be interesting in taking a series once it gets a little warmer out. I would recommend wearing long sleeves and pants because your body will rub with a lot of friction against the silks. I'm excited to continue to take both classes again and some of their additional unique offerings like the lyra (aerial hoop), trampoline and maybe even juggling classes!

Once inside the studio, it's beautifully decorated with art samples, shelves of take home art kits, and other goodies. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The studio has many different rooms depending on what workshop is happening at that time. They host classes and events such as (but not limited to) open studio, special events which focus on a theme or specific art, home school, sewing, and digital art. My daughter has visited Artsy Partsy many times throughout the years and each time she comes home with amazing art to showcase. She has been to a few summer camps, individual workshops as well as private sessions. My daughter's school hosted a paint night with Artsy Partsy which turned out to be a hit. Additionally, my daughter's girl scout troop joined Artsy Partsy's 1.5 hour drawing event which covers all the requirements for Juniors to earn the Girl Scout's Drawing Badge. My daughter really enjoys creating art and has gained many skills from Artsy Partsy. Our family will continue refer them to family and friends as well as continue to attend any workshops they host!

I am very disappointed with my experience and would not recommend this business…read more I enrolled my two daughters in a camp, but about a month before the camp started, I called the office to cancel our registration. During that phone call, I was told that if the camp spots were refilled, I would receive a full refund. If the spots were not refilled, I was told I would receive a 75% credit. I was also told that someone would follow up with me by email regarding the status. A month passed, and I never received any follow-up communication. Instead, I received an email reminding me that my daughters were still enrolled in the camp. When I called the office, I was informed that I would not receive either a refund or a credit. The staff member said she would speak with the owner and let her know what had happened. I asked to speak directly with the owner, but I was told she did not know when the owner would be available to contact me. Later that day, instead of receiving a phone call, I received a text message from the owner, Jeanette Fonseca, stating that they would not be providing a refund or credit because of their Terms and Conditions. I was never given the opportunity to explain that I had relied on the information provided by their staff and genuinely believed would receive at least the 75% credit I had been promised. This was especially frustrating because we had previously enrolled in one of their programs, and when they canceled a class at the last minute, we also did not receive a refund or credit. My biggest concern is not just the outcome, but the lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism. If staff members provide inaccurate information, customers should not be penalized for relying on it. I expected much better customer service, especially when attempting to resolve the issue respectfully. Unfortunately, based on these experiences, I cannot recommend this business.

I've been to a paint and sip event before and I was expecting a similar experience when I signed up…read morefor Paint Amore's "Paint and Chill" event at Selina DC on Friday. I arrived at Selina around 7pm and was directed to the lower level where the event was taking place. The check-in table at the front displayed a selection of well-used paint brushes and paint-stained plastic cups. The dimly lit room had three rows of tables set up with tiny blank canvases. The lady at the check-in desk never asked me for my ticket or my name. Instead, she directed me to select one of the laminated images on the table to "sketch." I saw that a few other attendees had on aprons, so I grabbed one of the paint-stained aprons to protect my clothing. I'm no artist, so I asked the staff member for some guidance on sketching the image I had chosen and she simply stated that I needed to draw it freehand. I helped myself to a few paint colors after figuring out that I needed to grab my own materials. I joined my friend at one of the three 4-person tables in the cozy room and made my best attempt to sketch the image using a pencil before applying the colors with my paintbrush. I completed my 10 x 8 inch painting in no time and it looked nothing like the original laminated image. Even though it wasn't a masterpiece, I found the act of painting pretty relaxing. The conversation at my table and the playlist streaming in the background were bomb! They made an otherwise lackluster experience worthwhile. I do wish this event included some wine and snacks to nosh on while we painted. That and larger canvases with sketched images and a quick orientation to attendees as they entered the room would have made this event even better. 2.5

They immediately make you feel at home, show you where all the paint and tools are located, guide you to your seat, and put you at ease. - Be creative: I like that there is no pressure here to follow a certain style, paint a certain picture, or complete things in a certain amount of time. You are able to follow your heart, be creative, and draw whatever you want. There are some outlines and photos available to copy if you want inspiration, but there is no pressure to do this, either! - Lots of supplies: Paints of every color, brushes of every size-- lots of cups and plats and paper towels and smocks. A dryer to dry your art as well. This studio is well stocked-- everything you need to direct your next masterpiece is here! - Fun conversation: You get seated at tables with your party, but also with other groups, so you can converse and socialize as you paint! - Affordable: I paid about $25 per person for the general admission experience, which I found to be a great value! They offer creative writing workshops (in person at their Bethesda location and via Zoom), events for writers, and other opportunities and resources for writers. I've taken one or two online course or workshops, but yesterday, I attended an in person, all day event on publishing (everything a writer needs to know about editing, getting an agent, submissions, etc.). It was a great event. I met a bunch of interesting, smart, creative people who are or want to be writers, learned from each of the four panels I attended, and had a great overall experience. I would absolutely attend another event or workshop as I continue to explore whether I have some writing in me (still a maybe)! What a great resource for DMV writers!
