I arrived at the appointed time and was told that my appointment was with Dr. Portela Martinez since Dr. Provost was leaving the practice at the end of May. I received no notice of this change in physicians until I arrived. I waited 1+ hours for Dr. Portello, after an intake interview with a GW med student. Dr. Portela told me that she was not accepting new patients, but that she would take on my husband and myself until another doctor could be recruited to staff the office full-time. Until then, she was to be in the office only one day a week because of her other commitments as a faculty member. When she was not in the office, I could consult with a nurse practitioner. I was unable to accept this and Dr. Portela offered to give me names of other practices accepting new patients, which she did by the close of business. My question: is this really a medical practice or a clinic to give GW med students hands-on experience? My other question: when are they going to turn on the water in the restroom so that people can wash their hands? Very, very unhealthy.

He never makes you feel rushed like some doctors, and his office is always on time with appointments which I appreciate. Most importantly, he's just a great doctor. Last year when I was pregnant I discovered I had a large ovarian cyst. The OBGYN I was seeing at the time was quick to suggest I'd need surgery when I was only a few weeks pregnant, even though my cyst was showing signs of getting smaller. I went to see Dr. Yuri for a second opinion and he ended up saving me from a risky and unnecessary surgery. He was very thorough and carefully explained all of my options to me. I was totally comfortable in his office and I was not rushed. America who works for him, is a wonderful and kind person. She is helpful and promptly responds to emails and phone calls. They are high tech; I love the use of phreesia (spelling?). What I loved and appreciated the most was that after my surgery in May, he went out and spoke to my husband, a non health care oriented person, and put him at ease. My husband's first words to me when I woke up from the procedure, "he came out and talked to me at length, he's great!" I am very thankful to have met him!

Five stars for Dr. Brody but only two for her staff…read more Yesterday was my first visit to her practice. Since I'm new to this office, and since I have new insurance, before booking my appointment I called to verify that her office accepted it. I gave them the details about my plan and was told that they were "pretty sure" I was covered, but that I may want to call Aetna, just to make sure. I did so and was told that this provider was in-network. Great! I get to the office for my appointment and the receptionist tells me, "This visit may or may not be covered by your insurance". Well then what the hell is the point of having insurance if it doesn't cover the damn visit?? She told me something about some other Aetna patients having to pay a portion or all of the cost of the doctor visit out-of-pocket. I told her that I had verified, both with someone from their office as well as with Aetna, that this provider was in-network so there should be no problem. I added that this was something they should have mentioned to me over the phone BEFORE I booked my appointment. I called Aetna while I was in the office and again they verified that this provider is in-network. I asked that they (Aetna) send me something in writing stating so, in the event that this office tries to send me a bill for a routine visit that is supposed to be covered. Moving on to the good part, Dr. Brody was patient, polite, and very professional. Before my exam, she brought me into her office to discuss my medical history as well as offer me the opportunity to ask questions. I told her about my anxiety with these exams and she offered me the option of medication to ease the anxiety, should I need it. Throughout the exam, which was quick and minimally uncomfortable, she explained everything that was happening and checked frequently to make sure I was ok. Despite the rough start, I left her office with a smile on my face. I appreciated her patience and professionalism and I highly recommend her.

I have never experienced a wait time of more than ten minutes yet and I have been going for more than two years now. I absolutely love and recommend this gynecology practice.

At one point, seated between my spread legs, he stared coldly at me, his finger poking the spot I said was hurting and told me I should be happy it's not swollen. As he left he said, "sorry if I upset you" with his back to me, opening a drawer, adding: "Here. If you need to clean yourself up." He even made me look at the swab he took. He's a creep and not trauma informed, he's not even a kind person. 0/10 Do not book with this man! He should quit practicing. I shudder to think of the countless other women he's made uncomfortable over the years. I reminded him one in four women are victims of sexual assault and in his role especially it's important to keep that in mind. What a jerk! Update--after making a formal complaint with the office manager (who was kind on the phone) I have yet to get any follow up about next steps regarding my complaint or my medical needs. After an in person meeting and follow-up appointment, my issues has been left unresolved and I acknowledged in any formal sense (1/18/26). This practice has been declining in patient care/service steadily for years. If you'd like to wait 40 minutes in the waiting room, and then another 30+ min HALF NAKED in your exam room, then this is the place for you. They turn on their answering service for "administrative work" aka lunch for several hours making it impossible to contact anyone. Nobody returns messages in the patient portal. You will wait months to get an actual appointment. The front desk staff is rude and treat you like you're bothering them- in person they are a bit nicer, but if you call the office- forget about it, you ARE bothering them. They're all very obviously only there for a paycheck. My mother, who was a patient for Dr. Apgar, actually waited for 45 min in her exam room and ended up leaving- with a note saying she was never seen- and nobody even bothered to reach out to her afterward! Sadly, as much as I like Dr. Krinn, I will NEVER be returning to this office. I have luckily found another practice that value's people's time. For women's care, this is a very very sad standard.
