Because of Andrei, this ended up being the BEST part of the whole house remodel project. Andrei showed up when he said he was going to, he was on time, and he did a fantastic professional job for a very reasonable price. Not to mention he's a really nice guy. A pleasure to be around. If you ever need cabinet work done, I can't recommend Andrei enough. He has a great attention to detail and covered up some of the mistakes that our previous contractor made. Despite that, Andrei was able to scribe and fit these cabinets into our old 1920's home which did not have the straightest walls to work from as a base. Not only did he focus intently on the task at hand, installing our cabinets, but he left the space in as good as or better condition upon finishing, all the while with a smile and a collaborative mindset. Any time we presented a question or suggestion it was met with a kind response and a will to figure it out. Even if you aren't a person that feels tapped in to details, you will still see the effects of a person who loves what they do, and can project that passion into the finished product. Alex, the owner, is a genuinely talented carpenter with a great eye for design. His angled shelving solution for the shoe closet was really clever. We were very particular about measurements and custom details, and Alex delivered exactly what we asked for. Even when we requested adjustments after installation had already begun, he found solutions and made everything work for us. The installers were really professional, detail-oriented, and respectful of our home. They were very organized and worked cleanly. We worked with MJ to redo a built in cabinet in the main living area of our house as well as a…read morereplacement of a mantle. From the beginning Manuel was challenging to get ahold of (no responses on emails mostly). Work started a week later than we had agreed on and Initially the project was supposed to take 3 days - demo, install, finishing- and it was suggested that it could be done in one week. The project started September 25 2024 and was finally finished November 15, almost 2 months. During demo we had to ask them to stop because they did not tape off the space and spread huge amounts of dust throughout our house that we ended up needing to do lead and aesbestos testing to move forward (not to mention, I had to take a day off of work to clean up the mess created). We had to call and text and basically beg them to send people out to finish the work and we could tell we were a very low priority- mostly working Saturdays, canceling multiple times after committing to dates, unwilling to commit to days until a day or two in advance, etc. He pretended he would work around our schedule but if that was the case, this work would have NEVER been completed. I canceled plans 3 times during this process to make myself available to get this work done. After demo, I think they realized this job was more complicated than originally anticipated but instead of telling us that, Manuel just kept us guessing, unsure if the timeline had changed- he did not want to communicate specifics with us which we would have really appreciated and welcomed. We learned quickly that they were not particularly respectful of our space so we began taping up our own plastic space dividers to keep dust and fumes out of the rest of our living space. The workers were very nice and I believe the issue is with management rather than the workers themselves. In the end, the work is nice enough which is why I give 2 stars instead of 1. The finished work was absolutely not worth the headache and displacement we experienced to get it done. It was a truly painful experience. I have other cabinetry projects I would like to do but will absolutely not be hiring MJ Custom cabinetry again to do the work.
