Terrible customer service! I rarely leave negative reviews, but I was taken aback by my experience here! I stopped in to inquire about a custom project for some family tintypes, and the woman at the counter was strikingly rude from the outset. She came across as unnecessarily curt and borderline aggressive, and though I was the only customer in the store, it seemed like my business was an inconvenience. I left because I'd rather take my business somewhere that makes customers feel welcome and treated with a basic level of respect. So disappointing, especially for what I was hoping would be a very sentimental piece for my family. read more

Incredibly rude and uncaring. I brought in a baseball photo to be framed for my son's 50th and was assured it would be ready. I called just before the birthday party and it was not. Days went by and when I called they told me they had texted days ago. I told them I had not received it. They told me over the phone they had. When I went in they said that, oops, the text had not gone through. I suggested that when they saw this they could have called like the old fashioned way. They then huffed and puffed and with a cursive dismissal gave a half hearted apology. But my son did get an overpriced framed photo of Joe DiMaggio- - weeks after his birthday (he loved it). read more

We have had good but expensive experiences with this shop for years. The value was in the proprietor, Tom, who had an outstanding eye for what works and what doesn't. That was the benefit of going here. We understand that he has retired but would be interested in any comments on whether he has stayed involved in design consultations, and on the skills and taste of the new owner if he has not. read more

I encountered the WORST customer service I've experienced in years. I entered the store to gather framing inspiration for a dear friend looking to frame a piece of his original art. However, the male staff member, whom I assumed was Tom, quickly advised me that photos were prohibited. I respectfully refrained and proceeded to explain that I was seeking ideas for another person and would like any brochures to offer him if they had any. He coldly and rudely replied, "You've never had customer framing before, have you." in an undeniably condescending tone. I have in fact, a number of times. "We don't have brochures," he said. I was so taken aback by his brash attitude for simply asking for inspiration that I decided to leave. As soon as I turned around, there was a display with a small brochure for their shop right in front of me with... wow. And though the brochure was not brimming with inspiration, it was the example I needed that this man is surely not interested in treating people with respect or kindness. Absolutely shameful. read more

I had a very large 50x50 limited edition poster to frame, and Art Loft Framing did a stellar job! Everyone I dealt with was so friendly and helpful. Sabrina helped me pick the perfect frame and demonstrated the superior qualities of the Optium Museum Acrylic, which really was the best decision for my large piece. The framing is perfect, the acrylic glazing is gorgeous and glare-free, it's installed with hardware and ready to hang, has the Certificate of Authenticity mounted on the back and they even wrapped my poster with heavy paper to protect it during delivery. Top tier service, I highly recommend Art Loft, especially for large scale pieces, I couldn't be happier with the results! read more

We have had the absolute most amazing experience from start to finish... Coming into the shop and having him take a gracious time to help us sort through as many mats as we needed to to find perfection with patience and grace and great input that made all the difference. Obviously he's been doing this a while and as an expert someone you can really trust. Today I am picking up the amazing artwork and I am absolutely blissfully excited to be bringing home the beautiful pieces the frame in the madding have made all the difference. read more

I was quite disappointed in my search today for repairing a broken frame and re-doing two family heirloom photos. The proprietor was quite dismissive and said that he couldn't help me replace the oval frames, which he said were only made of resin plastic as are all oval frames, and he doesn't deal in such cheap stuff. He had no suggestions for where I might find the frames that I need, only that I should go to a store that deals in hotel mass production framing. I don't mind that he doesn't do this specific type of job, but his attitude toward me and my family heirlooms was very snobby, and he didn't even say, "Thank you for coming in; I'm sorry that we couldn't help you." In the future I will go elsewhere for my framing needs. read more

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! I had some drama with another framing co and I was under a gallery install deadline. Got a great quote full of details over the phone so I went right in. I was helped immediately and we went through options. Originally I was told that my order wasn't going to be done until Tuesday and they turned it around in the same day! 3 hours later! The best! And my new go to. Thanks ya'll! read more

We like to buy relatively cheap art from our travels and dress them up with sometimes funky, sometimes fancy frames. Ikea frames for the bedrooms, Aaron brothers for the family spaces: kitchen, playroom and bathrooms, but for the guest areas: front hall, living and dining rooms, I wanted really high quality framing. I was worried that I'd have to go across the bridge into SF to get that, but am happy to report that I found a place right here in the east bay, Art Loft. Yes, it's pretty expensive, and yes, it might take some time, but it's all worth it. Tom's shop seems small, but it's full of great options, and he has a great eye for unexpected combinations. Let him do his magic! read more

Tom and Sabrina are magicians! They've taken many of my mediocre art selections and converted them into masterpieces. Those selections include Balinese masks now in shadow boxes, and more conventional art on flat surfaces. Great people. Great work. Great service. Strongly endorse them. read more

Art Loft has framed about a dozen pieces for me to date and they've done a great job on every one. Not only are they technically proficient but they have a well developed aesthetic. They've made great suggestions for frames and frame color and my work looks great. Lastly, they are communicative and honest about the work. They tell me how long the work will take and they're usually spot on in their estimations. read more

A few months ago I got a panoramic canvas wrap of the village in Europe where I lived when I was young. To me it looked unfinished and needed a frame. Had it framed at some other framer with a fat frame. I didn't enjoy looking at it. So I brought it in to Art Loft. I was going to have him remove the frame so I don't damage the canvas wrap. We talked about other options and Tom suggested a floater frame. He showed me what a corner would look like and it did look finished. Now I can't stop looking at my framed canvas. It looks so modern and fresh. Everyone says it looks great. Ill be back with a few more to finish up my family room. I will enjoy this for a long time. read more

There was one party with a more complex framing need than mine (I just needed replacement glass) ahead of me at 1:30 on a Monday in August. The staffer noted me right away, greeted me and asked me to wait. The time was well spent perusing the amazing display of frames they have available in all sorts of materials and designs, some so arty I wished I had a picture to put in them! Then, when it was my turn, she was helpful and friendly. She said she'd do the reglazing right away (that made me happy because she told the previous party it'd be two weeks), so I popped out for lunch and when I returned, it was not only all ready (with archival UV-blocking glass), but she had reinforced the backing and added extra clips. A lovely first experience on a basic job. I'd come back here for any framing job. read more

The people of Art Loft Framing are absolutely incredible! I brought in a piece that I mistakenly first took to Michaels only to have them pretty much destroy it (they ripped it down the middle). I asked them if there was anything that could be done to try and fix it. They said they would do their best and they really did. Even knowing the rip was there and where it was it took me a little bit to find it. If I ever need anything framed again I know where I'll be going! read more

Life is full of trade offs, cost vs quality and service. With the Art Loft you will always get a quality product with great service from Tom and his staff. I will say that you will also pay for that but when the work you are looking to frame or you want to make a unique mirror with a frame then this place is also the best value. Frame it your self places have worked for poster framing for me but most everything that I really cherished I have taken to Tom. I have a mirror that is really unique to my home and looks like an Asian antique. Fab. read more

If you want to transform an interesting piece into a work of art, bring it to Art Loft Framing and let Tom loose on it. Last week I had an unusual photograph of my girlfriend blown up to 3' square, and wanted it framed for her husband's birthday. I had altered it and made it a bit Warhol-ish. I was also up against a deadline, having decided on this particular print at the last minute. Tom was great. He got into the spirit of the project and pumped it out in a matter of a few hours. He is very sure of himself, which kind of made me want to make my own decisions about how to frame and matte it, but in the end I went with his suggestions, and I'm so glad I did. The picture is now spectacular! Birthday boy was very pleased. When you are going to have something as prominent and lasting as a framed picture on your wall, loosen up your wallet and have the professionals take care of it. (Tom has a line of frames for the budget minded). You will be forever grateful that you did. The quality is obvious. Now I want a copy of that picture nicely framed and hanging on my own wall.... read more

Every day I look at the work, I like it more than I did yesterday. I couldn't have come up with this on my own. I didn't have to.

Very professional, high end frame shop. They will charge you an arm and a leg and do a fantastic job. So very Montclair.

Tom and his staff turned an original painting (a cartoon-ish painting of Charlie Munger!) into a beautiful piece of framed art. This was a gift for my husband and Tom took the time to talk about complimentary colors, types of frames, and even the types of wood available for the frame. In the end the picture was amazing and my husband was floored with surprise. The finished product was top notch - very high quality. You get what you pay for at Art Loft. I will never go anywhere else. read more

I decided to finally get all of my diplomas framed. I was convinced to go the whole nine yards and get the double matting, UV protectant glass, etc. They did a great job, and I trusted them with my valuable diplomas, but I am embarrassed to say how much it cost. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly, but I wanna say I spent close to $1000 for 5 diplomas. At least it's something I hopefully won't need to do again. The Yelp deal for $30 off or something was a mere drop in the bucket. Erin B. summarizes it brilliantly. read more

I have been a customer of Art Loft Framing for the past 25 yrs and have always been delighted with the process of choosing the right mat and frame with Tom, the owner. My wife and I had gotten some wonderful family portraits, including one really large one, that needed framing. I was dreading it a bit as I thought it would be a long and difficult process to pick a frame. The owner of Art Loft did an amazing job do showing us great options and then honing in on our preferences. It was a much quicker and easier process than I expected and the results are fantastic. It was not cheap, though the Yelp deal helped, but I think this is a get what you pay for situation. read more

Tom is very creative and perseveres until he has found just the right matt and frame to work with whatever you bring his way. Recently, I brought in two photos; one is from my great great uncle taken in the late 1880's, the other is of my paternal grandmother when she arrived in the United States from Poland in 1920. Both photographs are in sepia tones and had some of the original framing which I wanted to save and have Tom compliment. It was not an easy task and he did wonderful work, keeping the period feel. read more

The short version is that I've always found Tom to be incredibly helpful and full of wonderful suggestions about just the right frame and matting style to use to comlement a piece. The quality of his work is top-notch, and he's also very willing to work withing a budget. I really appreciate the time and attention he gave me. The longer version concerns the three pieces I recently took in for framing, all family pieces with great sentimental value. One piece was an original Allied Photography photo of the ship my father served on in WWII. It would have been easy to use a black frame and white mat, but Tom suggested a simple charcoal gray frame with a combination of mats that took it from being a nice picture to something special. The second piece was a picture of my sister and me that had been painted on practically transparent silk in Japan in the late 1950s. It had been poorly framed and mounted, but Tom salvaged it and again worked with me to select a frame and matting that makes it a wonderful piece. The last piece was an early America cross-stitch sampler done by my Marine Colonel father for my mother for Christmas. It's not really a style for my house, but because of the history and sentiment behind it, I wanted to frame it in a unique way. Tom suggested an inner frame to set off the piece, with a woven cloth mat and a frame with simple beading that picked up part of the design of the needlework. It's spectacular. I highly recommend the Art Loft without reservation. read more

Tom at Art Loft Framing does fantastic work and really stands by his word. The mats are cut perfectly, and he and his staff are very helpful giving direction on what color of mats to choose to really make the picture pop. We had a VERY LARGE photograph framed there a few years back and unfortunately it bubbled. He took it back with no hesitation wanting to fix it. There were some problems along the way, but he worked quickly to let me know, replace the photograph, and kept me informed every step of the way. It was wonderful to work with a business who cares so much about not only their product, but also their service. I can't wait until I have another picture for the Art Loft to frame. read more
