I come here for both painting classes and as an artist hoping to see and support local artists in their studio. This is a wonderful, family-friendly, dog-friendly spot filled with many kind and sociable people. The artists are enthusiastic to meet everyone who comes through their door and answer questions. The building is also in a wonderful location along the water and next to a bunch of great shops and restaurants. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting to explore the arts or in need of an afternoon activity for groups of all ages. Love spending my Saturdays here!

Wonderful art school!…read more My two younger daughters attend this school and it's just perfect! They always bring home a masterpiece! They also always come back with a smile on their face telling me the fun they had and how nice the teachers are. I also am SUPER appreciative of the director allowing them to come in 2 hours early to work on their project they were excited on top of that they already had they're original two hours so in total got double the time in their class! The teachers are super flexible! My daughters said"They are always okay with whatever you want and are always there to help no matter what!". I could really see the improvement in their art after just a while of them doing this!

My nieces and nephews were given a gift of an experience in an art studio and provided refreshments…read moreat the end. All the cousins met up at Little Picasso for for the event. They all expressed their experiences in their own words; see below: Cousin's Art Studio Session "I really liked it, it was fun! I would rate it a 11/10!" - Semekor, Grade 7. "Hi, Aunty Afedziwa, I really like the art place you took us to, and my favorite part was when we did the oil pastelling. I really like oil pastelling. It was fun. Thank you for letting us be there." - Abigail, Grade 4. "Fantastic! It was really good because I like to draw and color. It was creative, because it was a D-shaped cat, and I'd never drawn a cat like that before."- A Second Grader. "Good! I liked drawing, I got to paint the background." - A Kindergartener, age 5. "I loved it. It was fun making the cats with the patterns, beautiful colors, and ombrés. I enjoyed spending time with the cousins. I really love art. Thank you!" - Elijah, Grade 4. "I loved it! I liked spending time with my cousins, making new friends, and making cat art. It was amazing! - Anayah, Grade 2. Adriel's Opinion (2 years old, Narrated by his Mom.) She asked him, "Adriel, do you remember the art event that you went to with your cousins? You were with Josiah, and Abigail, ... and you got to do some artwork! How did you feel about that? What did you think of it?" The moment Adriel was reminded of the event, his eyes brightened and a huge smile spread across his face. He just giggled as if reliving the fond memories of the day. He truly enjoyed it, and his parents will be framing his work--his first official piece of art! "Yaaaaayyy!!! Huge success!! A must "re-do" experience for sure!" - Elijah and Anayah's Mom "Thanks for giving them this memorable experience. " - Echoed by all the parents.

Fantastic summer camp! My son attended for 5 weeks this summer…read more Pros: - SUPER flexible schedule... you drop your kids whenever you want b/c you have bought a certain number of day passes. Sick kid or last minute long-weekend? You haven't wasted money. Play date fell through? Drop your kid at S&K on your way to work. - Unique activities: My son baked bread, drove go-carts, stitched a "wallet," animated a short movie with Legos, learned a new game, etc. - Structure is a 180 from classroom-life... Kids choose their own activities for most of the day. There are a couple of all-camp activities to maintain community and order, but other than that, kids are determining their daily activities. - Responsibility of rules... similar to the point above, this is a great change from the school year. My son (6yo) came home and told me all about the fact that there were no rules... just responsibilities at camp. He was able to articulate all 5 responsibilities and why they were important. (!!!!!) - My son is a little more active and impulsive than a "typical" 6yo. The staff at S&K worked with him to understand what was and was not appropriate. If there was a problem, they communicated it with me, so I could follow up at home. They never let him get off easy, but they weren't punitive either. I really appreciated their true understanding of "discipline." - There was a water slide most days, which was a huge hit. - Lunch is provided! Wooohooo!! Cons: - Because the camp does have a basis in creativity, there is a lot of constructivist theory behind the activities. I wish there was a smidge more direction on how to do things. (And it's possible that there is, but my son didn't ask for it. :) ) Overall, we loved it, and I will be sending both of my boys for a month or so next summer. I highly recommend!!

We had high hopes for this camp. To give context to Alexandria parents, we did a week of Browne…read moreCamp (which my girls both said was their favorite in town camp and want to go back to next summer), Campagna, vacations, sleepaway camps for three weeks, and then Steve and Kates. I only bought 5 days for each child and we did 3 days the first week and 2 the 2nd week. I ended up having a babysitter come the remaining three days because my girls didn't want to go back to the camp (a first). There is very little structure to the camp, little to no outdoors time, and the food selection was either a bagel or pizza.....every day. There were no other options available. We packed lunches and snacks and after about a day of the camp my kids were really bored. They spent most of the time on pads or watching movies due to other activities being full when they wanted to do them. They specifically asked me to never send them to this camp again.
