I believe my first year there was the first year Kiddie Country II (this location) opened up. Whatever memories I still remember from there, are all great. This is why I was so excited to have my now 5-year old, who is now in Kindergarten at our local Elementary school, go there. She was there for the past 2 years. Part of the reason she was excited to go there was that her Dad went there too. The whole staff, from the administrators, to the teachers have all been so wonderful to us and my child. She's learned a ton there, met lots of new friends and really enjoyed going there. The staff are welcoming and really do care about the children. I am a self-diagnosed 'helicopter' parent in some ways, and the fact that I feel totally comfortable in having my child go there means a lot to me. Highly Recommended! (The Lab School Of Washington Part 1) 10/15/19…read moreBefore The Gow School, there was The Lab School Of Washington. This is a school for students that have learning disabilities. A school that uses many techniques to help kids and adults learn challenging tools and skills they will need in the big bad world. I came to this school at the age of five or maybe six. My reading and math skills were under developed as; well, as being unable to focus on my studies.(gotta love that hyper attention deficit disorder on top of dyslexia) I thought I was focused, but in the words of Mr. Hans (aka Jackie Chan) "Your focus needs more focus. " And so it begins... I was brought to the school and given the tour by an administrator who's name I can't remember. I remember seeing kids younger than me and thinking of a number of things. I wondered if I was going to like this school? If I was worried about making friends, those worries were laid to rest not long after I joined the school. I don't really remember my first week of school as the new kid, but I do remember classes like Caveman Club, Knights&Ladies Club, Gods Club and Renaissance Club. These were actually history classes, but the teachers dressed up in their classes for at least week...(Some teachers like Lord Don *aka Don White* really dressed the part.) There were classes as I moved up in grades like wood working with a teacher name Dieter. There are some people that did not like him, but he was one of the coolest teachers out there. Pitty I didn't see this back then. Other classes like PE (aka physical education) with a woman named Heather, who later on introduced us to a man name Angelo, who later introduced us to a man name Judd. Judd stayed with Angelo for decades and eventually became the head of PE. In between Angelo and Judd, there was another woman who's name escapes me. She took PE to a higher level than Angelo and Judd did. Moving up through the grades, I remember how my reading and mathematics improved. My reading improved more with the help of Talking Books at the Media Center and Drama Class. The Media Center helped students learn how to sound out words as well as entertain students. We also practiced writing out what we heard on the talking books. Another learning technique for writing. I wish I remembered that teachers name because she really helped so many students. With the help of the Media Center, Drama classes with Sean Miskell helped us remember words, sentences to memorizing lines for theatrical performances. One of my favorite games of his was hide the chip. Another was word games. We had to remember words and phrases as the word or sentence passed from one student to another. I am sure you can imagine how the real sentence changed dramatically as the last student said the sentence out loud. All these little things did not seem like much, but all together it helped students get a better grip on one's schooling. Yes, Sally Smith knew what she was doing even if I did not get along with her from time to time. She was known as the Perfume Lady back when I was a kid. She wore a lot of it and her downstairs office smelled like it too. Her office use to be in an office outside the main school. Her office later was changed to the castle/library later on. Sally Smith knew how to get intouch with many celebrities like Dexter Keith Manley, Henry Franklin Winkler aka The Fonz, Cher, Tom Cruise and the actor who die and became a monster in the movie Leviathan. These are just a few people that the student body got to meet and learn how the celebrities turn their learning disabilities into their strengths. My almost-four-year-old son currently attends Griffin Academy. We are working parents and needed…read morefull-day care, and we did a pretty exhaustive search in the area for an affordable preschool. I cannot BELIEVE how lucky we are to have found this place. Let me tell you why you should send your kids here. Even before I talk about my son's experience, I need to mention how well this program is run. Kristine Lee, the preschool director, is one of the warmest, kindest, most competent and professional humans with whom I've had the pleasure of interacting. She was so responsive and helpful throughout our enrollment process that we felt like we were already family members from the first contact. This was not our experience with other preschool programs. Many private preschools, like the one our older daughter attended, have strict arbitrary rules, parent work hour requirements, and intimidating admission processes that (for us) made us feel a tiny bit unwelcome. None of this from Westminster. This private school, with its classical focus, has managed to wrap us in its arms and surround us with a community of funny, warm, and down-to-earth people. It feels EASY, not stressful, to attend school here. As private school first-timers, we had to adjust to uniforms, but it's been no sweat. Teachers. We knew that our son liked his teacher, and that she (and all of the Griffin teachers) had been kind to him, and patient as he adjusted to a full day of school. We were so incredibly impressed when we met her in person at back-to-school night. Beyond having exactly the personality you would want for a preschool teacher (gentle, nurturing, and understanding), Miss Horner brings incredible expertise and professional knowledge to her job as classroom teacher. I myself am a board-certified teacher, so I have some clue about what they do, and my son's teacher is at the top of her game. Literally every aspect of her students' experience seems to have been designed with their development in mind. Everything in the classroom is accessible to the children, with the goal of fostering their independence, improving their fine and gross motor skills, and promoting harmony. The children are taught to greet each other respectfully, refer to their classmates as "friends", and express appreciation frequently. We toured other schools in our search, and at some well-known schools, we were dismayed to notice that the teachers did not seem to have a loving relationship with their students. My son's teachers LOVE him, and it shows. This was the single most important thing that we as parents were looking for. Every child deserves to experience preschool in a class like my son's, and we cannot overstate how fortunate we feel to have landed here. Here are some other fun things that we love: - They go on field trips (on the Westminster bus!) on almost a monthly basis. That is so many out-of-class experiences! - Each classroom has an imaginative play area that changes monthly (post office! garden! cave! grocery store!). - You can pack your child's lunch, OR order hot lunch from their service! Or both! - Excite Soccer offers a short after-school class on Thursdays, and our son goes to this and LOVES it. - French. Library. Music. Science. Our preschooler's schedule is as varied and rich as our 1st-grader's. My son is a wiggly little boy. Was I worried that he wouldn't have enough opportunity to move and play in the course of his rigorous classical education? I was. I've got one word for you: GYMNASIUM. If you can show me another preschool where kids get to run around a huge gym first thing every single morning, I'll be astonished. My guy comes home happy and tired every day. I'm typing all of this because when we were looking for preschools, there weren't a lot of parent reviews to read, and parents need to know that this wonderful option is available. Look no further!

Our son went to Griffin Academy for preschool and he attended some of the Griffin camps (winter,…read morespring, summer.) Griffin Academy is part of the Westminster School, however, it is on a different campus and it is run by a different headmaster. So first, I must say that this review is for Griffin Academy not Westminster as we do not have any experience with Westminster directly. The best part of Griffin Academy is the teaching staff (actually, all of the staff) and the facilities. If you take a tour of the facilities I have no doubt you will be very impressed. Having an indoor gym-type of space in the winter was hugely beneficial. Also, the teaching staff was excellent, and I mean really excellent. My son had a primary teacher who he adored and then he did rotate through other teachers who teach specialty subjects, and they all got to know him and I was really impressed with all of them. The expectations, educationally, were set very high which works well for my son and our family because I felt that he was pushed just the right amount. The class sizes are small so the teachers are really able to work with the kids at the level that they are at. They also worked a lot on his manners and his social interactions. My son came out of Griffin at age 4, able to sight read entire books on his own, silently, to himself. So educationally, I cannot fault Griffin at all; I was very impressed. Our son was definitely not bored, which is a big thing for us. The hours that they provide childcare/school for are also very good for working parents, as they provide a variety of options to allow the parents to be able to choose and manage the hours of school and childcare that they need. The price was also surprisingly much more affordable than a lot of other preschools. The only reason I am not giving the school 5 stars is because, just out of bad luck, is our son really didn't have that many other boys in his class, so unfortunately a lot of the stereotypical boy activities, he was not able to partake in to the fullest extent of what he would have preferred, so I ended up having to enroll him in some outside extracurricular activities (karate, etc.) just to kind of make up that deficit. The class he was in was almost all girls. However, as I say, I realize that experience was probably just unique to us and unfortunate due to the way the classes broke down. The reason that is a big deal to me is my son needs a lot of physical activity to get his energy out and that really requires him basically running around like a maniac playing soccer, etc. He is already at the age where he doesn't want to play what he thinks of as girly games so that was a bit of an issue during the school times, was not having enough physical activity for his liking. (***During the camps sessions it was a better mixture of boys and girls so this problem actually completely went away for us during all of the Griffin camp sessions.) The only other pretty minor complaint I had about the school was at times I felt they were a bit too strict on some things that I myself am pretty relaxed on - especially the "clean your plate" mentality, I am not really that into. On the flip side, his manners were much improved and he is able to do a lot more on his own and for himself than he was when he went into Griffin, so I have mixed feelings about that. All in all, I would really recommend Griffin, it is a very good preschool, and when our daughter is old enough we will probably be sending our daughter there.

Absolute worst place for my grandson to learn. In my opinion Guidepost Chantilly was very…read moredysfunctional at many levels. My grandson was tested at Guidepost and entered first grade for the 2024 through 2025 school year. The mixed level classroom had about twenty-two students, ranging between 1st and 5th grade. In the beginning of the school year there were two teachers, one of which clearly was not acclimated to talking to younger students. Her fast cadence of speaking was incoherent, and level of explanation was not focused at a first grade level. It took six months of meeting with the Guidepost corporate administrator for action to be taken regarding the teacher. The remaining teacher was very in tune with her students and tried her best to teach to the various level of the group. Unfortunately, there were several students in the class with major behavioral problems. Two of the students displayed physical bullying to the other students. My grandson was hit in the head with a stick, breaking the skin. This was inside of the classroom. One student yelled for a significant part of the day, which caused so much disruption my grandson could not focus on the educational tasks. Much of the teacher's day was spent trying to maintain order in the classroom. This was again discussed with the Guidepost Chantilly corporate administrator. The administrator always had an excuse for the incidents and behaviors, with no concrete corrective action taken. When I came at 5:30 to pick up my grandson, I could see a great deal of disarray in his classroom. Papers were out of place and on the floor. Books, educational materials and student belongings were very out of order along with several other things. The classroom was clearly not clean, with visible garbage around the floor. How could this be a functional classroom? One of the bullies in the class was a student of a Guidepost Chantilly teacher. After two months of the aggressive and bullying behavior toward my grandson, I addressed the parent myself. I did this in a very non-aggressive way. The parent put her hand in my face and stated, "I don't want to talk about it" and walked away. The Guidepost administrator admonished me for going directly to the parent. Other parents expressed that this is a trend with this school, allowing their teachers to bring their children and not addressing their students' aggressive and disruptive behaviors. Everyone should be allowed to raise their children how they see fit, but when it impacts other children's safety and ability to learn the problems must be addressed. During the time at Guidepost, we had two parent teacher conferences. At the second conference my grandson was evaluated to be one step past the first conference. We were told he was falling behind and could have a learning disability. The conclusion was that my grandson had learned very little in eight months. We were paying a private school tuition, but he was not getting the education for which we were paying. After the evaluation in late April 2025, we removed my grandson from Guidepost Chantilly and placed him in public school. He was tested when he entered public school at the mid-kindergarten level. In public school, he came home smiling every day. He said no one was yelling all day and he was able to work on his schoolwork. He was not worried about anyone hitting him. This structured environment allowed him to excel for the remainder of the year. He was voted most helpful of his peers and most improved student at the year ceremony. These two awards were from a total of four kindergarten classes, or eighty-five students. He is now in first grade, and we just had the first parent teacher conference. He is excelling in math doing second grade work and is at level for reading and comprehension. We did a tremendous amount of work with him over the summer to bring him to grade level. It is my opinion that if he had a proper education at Guidepost Chantilly, he would not have been behind in his education and not labeled as learning disabled. In my opinion, Guidepost Chantilly wasted eight months of his educational life which is unacceptable. It is my opinion that Guidepost Chantilly is a disgrace and should not have the ability to be called an educational school. Perhaps this is why the corporate parent of Guidepost declared bankruptcy in the summer of 2025. Lack of student enrollment and poor educational ability. Of course, this is only my opinion, I did not waste my time to do the bankruptcy research because I had actual firsthand knowledge.

Our two daughters, 2.5 and 4 years old, attend Guidepost Montessori Chantilly. From the first time…read morethat I reached out to the Assistant Head of School to find out more about their programs, we felt like part of the Guidepost Family. When we needed help with the Financial Aid process, we had assistance the whole way. Couldn't have been more grateful. Our children have flourished under this Accredited Montessori School with Trained Guides. We could not feel more comfortable that no question seems silly or bothersome by the Guides or Administration. As I said, we truly feel welcome and a member of the Guidepost Family. Also, the way they have handled the COVID-19 pandemic has been incredible. Feeling our children are in safe hands at times like these is paramount and we do at Guidepost. Cannot recommend highly enough! We are so blessed to be here.
