Sophie was incredibly helpful and attentive when helping us look at rings! She was very kind and patient as we decided which we wanted to purchase. read more

Anytime I visit a town I have to check for a new age store, crystal store, witchy shop, fair trade place, or similar. Art Gecko is definitely within that overall pantheon of shops. These kinds of stores often have the type of jewelry I like--sterling silver, and with varying gemstones. Art Gecko has a lot of selection here, and they also have a stone of the week (when I was here, it was labradorite). Amber, garnet, ruby, peridot; you'll find it all here. So many rings, earrings, and pendants, and a really great range of sizes. I have big fingers, and there were a lot in my size. Many of the rings were also arranged in tray by size, so I could simply point to the size I wanted to look at rather than be disappointed that something I liked would barely fit my pinky. They also had some of the rings in trays by colors, and there was a tray just of labradorite ostensibly since it's the stone of the month. I didn't need to spend more money than I did. Having said that, I looked diligently to see if they had any bracelets, and their inventory was very very sparse there. I did see an amber bracelet, I think, and perhaps one or two more but not in a stone I liked. That's okay! read more

I'm visiting. I happened upon this shop. I'm so happy I did. They have the cutest clothes. I bought a crocheted top for my daughter. If I had more room in my suitcase, I would've bought some meditation pillows. The staff was amazing. They were so friendly and helpful without being, oppressive. The prices were very good. I hope to come back again soon! read more

Skeeter and Erin are welcoming, helpful, hilarious and overall fantastic individuals who helped name pick out two rings. The clothes selection is a cross between comfort and style, boho and chic, and traditional with modern flare. Perfect for island living or keeping cool in warmer weather because of the fresh linen. You could decorate a home with the wide variety of interior adornments. I'm glad I stopped by. read more

Art Gecko - Bought one these two pictured and a gold plated ring - Jewelry Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

My husband and I wandered into this store while killing time one morning. I was pleasantly surprised by the jewelry selection and ended up spending a little over $150. A few hours later, I put on one of the necklaces I had just purchased and the clasp snapped off. Not a big deal, I just bought it so I'm sure I can return it since it's clearly defective. Nope. The not very bright and not at all friendly girl who had sold me the necklace that morning said it was against their policy. She did fix it with a slightly unmatched clasp. So sure, it's wearable, but that's not the quality I expected for the price (around $50 I think). I was so put off by their garbage policy regarding defective merchandise, I was immediately sorry I had given them so much of my money. I certainly won't make that mistake again. read more

I really really used to love art gecko. I recommended them to numerous people and I talked them up A LOT! Well today, July 16, 2022, I went shopping on state street and wasn't finding anything I wanted so I decided to go to one of my favorite stores, Art Gecko. I walked 10 minutes to get there and arrived at 6:20 on the dot and was just about to walk in when a younger employee ran to the door, shut it in me and my boyfriends faces and yelled "We're closed!" She then turned around and started laughing with another girl who was inside. Online the business hours say they're open from 10:30 AM until 8 PM. I'm honestly disgusted and very put off by the way they acted. read more

Art Gecko - Business Hours - Jewelry Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

I visited the store the evening of 11/25 and the women that were managing the store were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I will be coming back to have my rings that broke (purchased from another store) fixed there. My daughter and I could tell they love their jobs. I highly recommend this store as well as shopping there when these ladies are working! read more

NoSheen is always beautiful & ready to answer any question you have about the shop & Marcel always seems to bring back stuff from Indonesia (& elsewhere I presume) that I genuinely luv. People always ask where I get my 'unusual' apparel. If its not from NY, it's probably from here... It's very easy for me to walk in look around at mother of pearl, silver jewelry and clothing. ...then leave with $200+ less in my pocket. Go here. Shop. See for yourself. read more

Art Gecko - Great garb from Art Gecko [State St] - Jewelry Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

Love to buy Christmas and other occasion gifts at Art Gecko. When I was downtown recently after a long hiatus, I was so happy to see that the store is still there. read more

I've never had a negative experience with the Art Gecko on state street until recently. Unattentive staff. Will talk amongst eachother to the point I feel like I'm inconveniencing them asking to simply look at something further. However the opposite happened the last time I visitied maxwell street days I felt pressured to look and buy. (By the same inattentive employee as before). Really pushy sales associates. I got super bad vibes. Charged my friend $10 for a skirt marked $5 and didn't notice until after. The skirt had a red ink stain on it. I don't think I will be returning to this location. which is a shame because I love their jewelery. read more

I know, I know, I know. I can never make my mind up. My latest bout of indecisiveness resulted in new flooring that in no way matched the decor or furniture in my home like I'd originally planned. Oops. So on my merry way I went to a million places searching for something that fit and Art Gecko was on the list. I've been to the Art Gecko once before and remembered the eclectic merchandise they carried, so I was anxious to see if I could find something unique. Stepping foot into the store I was immediately greeted by a friendly group of employees who displayed a keen interest in my shopping needs and showed me around. The store itself isn't terribly tiny by State Street standards as it's two levels. The floor, the walls, and the ceiling are stocked full with fun, creative and bohemianesque decor and lighting that, if I could afford. would all be nestled in my home right now. Luckily I came at a time where most lights (lamps, pendant light things, paper lanterns, etc.) and other items were marked for sale at a somewhat manageable price, and for the whole month at that. I definitely took advantage of the deal. As other reviewers have stated, this isn't just another knock-off store trying to push cheaply made products. Most of their merchandise is handpicked in Bali, Indonesia throughout the year by this locally owned business themselves. read more

Lots of pizazz! A bit of Hippie, a bit of new age. Fun lighting, clothing and fabrics. The silver and stonework jewelry selection is extensive. The ladies understand stones and crystals and their healing properties. They were happy to take their time while I selected things and did not hard sell. I would definitely go back. read more

Like totally bohemian, hippie dippy, tie dye, twirly whirly lazy daisy! You'll find an eclectic mix of hippie, bohemian whimsical items here. The vibe is super chill, and everyone just kinda floats around gazing at twinkly, multi-colored lights and fabric with varying peaceful symbols of different cultures that cross over the time-space continuum of whoaaaaa. I really like this store. However, that happy little cloud (Bob Ross nod) you're floating on disintegrates when the sales staff start pestering. I don't mind them saying hello and letting me know they'll answer any questions I have. But I don't appreciate them looking me over, and then trying to suggest things in the store that I should buy based on what they see me wearing. This is what my sales lady said: "Oh hey, these necklaces would look greaaaaat on you with your gauges. Yeahhhhh." Imagine taking a piece of taffy and stretching it out slowly between your hands. That's how she talks, like, all the time man. Tooooooooooootally. A friend I was with whispered "is she stoned?" I said "maybe she does a lot of yoga??" Idk. Now I don't have a problem with hippies, I grew up in NorCal. But when I talked with her at length, I could tell she didn't really care what I had to say, and was just trying to make a sale. Not all hippies are selfless angels who just wanna hug you bro. They are still humans after all. Even after I had purchased a few things and the transaction was over, she was still trying to show me things. Come on already. read more

We visited this store today and we really liked the selection of items. We ended up buying three lovely ceramic & glass bowls and the woman at the cash register wrapped everything very well. Both she and the other sales clerk were *very* friendly. Also, we thought the prices were reasonable for the handiwork and materials. read more

I really do like Art Gecko....it's a great place for groovy and eclectic worldly gifts for those hard to shop for relatives. I stop in at least 5 or 6 times a year to see what new inventory they have, find sale items, etc....I don't think I have EVER left empty-handed. I think some of the prices are a bit much, hence four stars, over five. Hint: Check the upstairs and back room for larger items, and deals....also, LOOK UP! They have many items for sale mounted higher up on the walls. read more

Lovely store with a variety of clothing and decor. The store has a nice vibe and ladies working were very pleasant. Can't wait to wear the pants I purchased there today. read more

I remember my first trip to Art Gecko- I was 17, the only girl on a school trip, and my head was swimming from all the gorgeous jewelry. I don't know what possessed me, but I decided to try on rings and I found a green Baltic amber cabochon one that looked somewhat like a turtle's back. It became probably my most prized possession and in my head, Art Gecko's been a treasure trove ever since. I'm pretty picky and so it's been a long time since something here's grabbed my attention like that... but on my last trip, I realized that, despite my initial out-of-place-ness in a hip-kid store like Art Gecko, I'm pretty much their ideal clientele. Their curtains are just loud enough to be funky, but classy as all heck. I wish I'd picked some up when I was there, but alas, next time. Their jewelry is still unparalleled, and somehow I came home with a gorgeous amber pendant, very much like my old ring (which went to Japan with a boy that now, I probably won't see again) and is my new favorite piece of jewelry. Their clothing is cute, if not really my style, but still, the scarves are super cute. All their housewares are unique and I really just could comfortably move right in~ Love Art Gecko~ Can't wait to come back! read more

I love this store! The only reason I'm giving it 4 and not 5 stars is because the prices have gone up recently and in my opinion things are starting to cost more than they're worth (especially since they probably bought everything for dirt cheap overseas). Still, if you like funky decor or jewelry, this is a must visit shop. Basically everything in my apartment is from here or Earthbound across the street. They have awesome textiles and curtains, interesting lamps, boho jewelry and even some furniture (there's more at the Monroe street store). I've bought beautiful pillows, scarves, mosaic mirrors and blankets just to name a few things. read more

Fun, funky little shop on State Street that deserves a visit when you are walking by. Lots of jewelry from costume pieces to sterling silver - there is lots to look at in many price ranges. Then onto scarves, clothing and curtains. If that isn't enough shopping you can loom for some unique decor for the house. A wooden giraffe, a small Buddha or metal cat maybe! They box and wrap items nicely if they are gifts too. The store smells so strongly of incense it was almost more than I could deal with! It could use a bit more ventilation in the summer! read more

The store had a 50% off sale on musical instruments, and I got a didgeridoo pretty cheap! I also got a friendly experience, and this is probably the best place to get inexpensive percussion! read more

They have really unique & beautiful natural stone jewelry. On my recent visit I was drawn to a moldavite pendant set in sterling silver for $80. The staff was knowledgeable about the origin & energy properties of the stone as well as the artist that made it. I also found really cute halter tops for only $5 each on the same rack. I think this is a great shop for unique home goods, accessories & clothing at an affordable price. Definitely stop in if you are looking for natural stone jewelry. read more

I miss Art Gecko! When I lived in Madison I bought nearly all my jewelry here-- and wanted to buy all the jewelry in the store! I always got compliments on the stuff I bought here. It's beautiful and affordable and unique. I must remember to stock up when I visit Madison! read more

During my college years, Art Gecko was my favorite store in Madison. Probably once or twice a year I have to call a friend who still lives in Madison to stop by Art Gecko and pick me something up. Anything, just something from AG. They have beautiful silver jewelry, great gift items, organic clothing if that's your bag, and all the incense you can imagine. It's easy to take advantage of these type of local haunts in Madison because there are so many but once you move you realize just how special it is. read more

I appreciate that they buy stuff from other countries and bring it over here, but I bought a beautiful purse that tore within a few days and by the end of the month the bottom was completely torn out. It never had more than a couple of things in it...bummer. So a few stars for beauty, no stars for quality. Upadated 2/11: Originally, I gave them two stars. Around Christmas, I wrote them about the purse, not to ask for a refund, but just to let them know how quickly it tore. They kindly offered to replace it. After several weeks, they let me know that the exact one wasn't available, but that they would send me another. It arrived soon after. It's certainly not one I would have picked out for myself, but I very much appreciate their willingness to work with me on this. So, three stars! read more

During my time in Madison, Art Gecko was my #1 favorite place to spend money I didn't really have. Where I would really lose it was the jewelry case. The shop has a fantastic collection that showcases many different gorgeous stones. whee! shiny things! There is a ton of other stuff - clothes, knick knacks, furniture, etc. - crammed into the store, so you can really spend a while poking around in there - and when I say "a while" I mean "a ton of money." read more

Ohmygosh, all the scarves you could ever hope for! What an awesome little store.

Amazing little finds in this place. Make sure to bring plenty of money because you're going to want to buy everything in here. My cousin bought me a painting from here for my birthday and I couldn't get home fast enough to put it on the wall. I don't feel you should bring children into this store (because there is so much to touch and break) but they are kid friendly and were extremely nice to my nephew. Make sure to stop in if you're looking for something new, beautiful and interesting to add to your home. Their jewelry selection was quite unique with many beautiful pieces. I for sure will be stopping in the next time I am in Wisconsin. read more

Whenever we are in Madison we always visit Art Gecko. One of the most interesting collections of offbeat and Asian clothing, fabric, furnishings, and world / import goods we have found in the Midwest. Not just another knockoff hippie knick knack and gift store. They find some really interesting items during their buying trips. read more

This is a lovely store, with all kinds of jewelry (including a huge ring selection), artworks and imported clothes. I go there mostly for fabric items. I don't know how they cram it all into their small space, but they carry curtains, bedspreads, cushions and more. The handcrafted rug and bedspread I brought home are just beautiful! I didn't even ask, and they even gave me a discount just because I was buying the last patchwork bedspread on the shelf. read more

While Madison is known for its great local shopping along State St., Art Gecko stands out among the rest. With an incredibly friendly and helpful staff, Art Gecko's mix of knickknacks, jewelry, clothing, and other colorful items from around the world come to life. No wonder they've been around since 1993. I love the smell as you walk in of all the incense, and the vibe you get as you peruse the shelves and back walls. I've purchased incense, and jewelry for a past significant other and love to chat with the beautiful and interesting staff... read more

I bought a ring from this store, spent 40$, and the ring tarnished in a few weeks when they said sterling silver would not do that. I went in to get a refund and the blamed it on the chemical balance of my skin. I would not recommend this store unless you want cheap products. read more

I used to come here regularly for gifts for my wife & sisters and I got a lot of great stuff. Their prices are fair and they have a nice selection but the staff was always very pushy - so much so that I generally stopped going. My wife & her mom were in there a month or so ago and it sounds like the same story with the sales staff. If they fixed that, they'd get 5 stars from me. read more

I love this place. I'm from Milwaukee and I stop here every time I visit. Lots of beautiful lamps, tapestries, wood work, picture frames, rings. I left with a really awesome deal but one get one 50 percent off scarves. I loved them so much I couldn't decide and got both. The saleswoman there is very friendly and good at making sales while still being genuine and not all in your business either. read more

Great place for an eclectic accessory... or two... or five. It's hard to walk out of this store with only one item! I'm a earring junkie. Many of my friends have purchased sterling silver rings here.... pretty semi-precious stones, a huge selection. read more

I love browsing around in this store! The items are from the East, which adds a great variety to Madison. The jewelry and the smaller items around the jewelry are generally reasonable, but the rest of the items are are little bit overpriced.
