Collage class!
Lisa C.

What a welcoming, loving, vibrant and joyful environment to learn in! Fro, thank you for creating such a safe space for students of all ages and walks of life to come and practice self expression through creating art.

This is the address on Mt. Diablo in Concord.

Concord keeps showing remarkable signs of life. This is another one. A sweet little hidden spot showcasing work by some very talented, local artists. Walking distance from Todos Santos Plaza. I've only been to one show here and was very happy I went. FRO (this is her brainchild) is generous and inspired.

I am so incredibly grateful I found this place! I'd been searching for a ceramics class that I…read morecould take with my mom, who has some cognitive impairment, and this school has been a total blessing. The teachers here are phenomenal. They are kind, incredibly generous with their knowledge, and created such a welcoming environment for both my mom and me. There is a really nice variety of workshops too and I'm hoping they add even more for evenings. I recently took the holiday linocut workshop and had the best time! It wasn't just about learning a new craft; the vibe was so social and upbeat. The teacher was wonderful and the other students were a blast to hang out with while we worked. Their approach to teaching really builds your confidence. For the first time, I actually felt like an artist rather than just a hobbyist. The atmosphere here is creative, supportive, and fun. I'm constantly checking their calendar for new classes and workshops to be added. Check them out if you or your kids (or your mom!) want a community as well as an art school.

We are currently attending this art school, and I want to share our experience, especially…read moreregarding their make-up class policy. They only allow one make-up class--ever. I understand policies exist for a reason, but what happens when a child is sick? Are parents expected to bring their sick kids just so they don't lose a class they already paid for? I tried requesting an earlier time due to a legitimate scheduling issue, but was told no because we had already used our one make-up. So if my child gets sick again, we simply lose the class. As for the teaching, I honestly can't even say if it's great since this is our first time enrolling. But it's sad that because of this strict policy, it just doesn't seem like it will work for us. It's ultimately my fault for not reading the make-up policy closely, but after this experience, we won't be returning. We still have two classes left, which we will attend, but that will be the end for us. My friend's child is actually in the ceramics program at this same art school--she's the one who referred me--and even she thinks the policy is too rigid. If you have a very healthy child and know you'll make every session, then this school might work for you. Otherwise, there are other art programs--like Damoya Art in Danville--that are far more flexible with scheduling. When I spoke with Alex, I was told that other art schools don't even offer any make-up classes at all, as if I should be grateful for the one they allow. But for a kids' program, flexibility matters. Unfortunately, this school has just lost a customer.

The woodworking 1 class is a great introduction to all the equipment through the process of building a beautiful step stool. The day and night classes include men and women of all ages. The tools in the wood shop are great, and the instructors really know their stuff. What's more, those guys sure know how to keep a sharp edge on their equipment. Tuition is, in my opinion, up to what one would expect to pay in today's economy, especially considering that everyone is scrambling for cash to stay afloat, even the local government and its affiliated programs. The registration process on the archaic website is a touch on the byzantine side, though. It looks a lot like the very first website I ever coded when I was 16 years old. Uhh, now that I think about it, it looks like the website I designed a few years ago. But I'm no web designer, so hah! Point being, you're gonna have to dig around a little bit to find what you're looking for, but once you've found it, the actual act of registering for a class is pretty straightforward. Now, back to the woodworking instructors: Between the Bill and Dave, they've got about 70 years experience, 20 fingers, 20 toes, and 8 eyes (they both wear glasses). So I trust them to teach me the ways. I don't know if I'll ever be able to snatch the pebble from their hands, but I'm confident that they're showing me how to keep all my phalanges and body parts so that I could snatch that pebble, even if only in theory. I plan on taking many more courses here, especially in the "Working with Wood" category of classes. Now go forth and learn something new!

This store is a perfect GEM nestled in N unexpected place in Pleasant Hill. She has beautiful pieces and carries Dixie Bell chalk paint which I love and is difficult to find. The owner, Kait, is super helpful and within minutes of talking to her, you feel like she is a lifelong friend. She is easy to communicate with and it's a no pressure to buy situation. If you have a moment to pop in I would Recommend it because you will be surprised at all of the fun home decor, baby clothes, paint, and more that you will find there. Overall, darling store and owner!

They also were able to bring in their own snacks and wine to have a little pre-painting wine and cheese. That's not all, the little shop that is attached is incredible! I bought some hand made soap that I just couldn't live without because of how yummy it smelled (my husband chuckled at me as I batted my eyelashes at him to purchase it for me). I also found the CUTEST soap holders. A little basket and one that looked like a old fashioned sink faucet. Super cute! I honestly would love to decorate my WHOLE house with the cute local artist finds that are sold at Kaits. I can't wait to visit again! If you adore vintage and local craftsman work, visit Kaits! It's totally worth it!!
